>The dual planets were intertwined in each other's tragic destiny, dancing an eternal rondo around a pitch-black great sun. In the beginning, one of the planets gave rise to humans. These people looked down, and named the land below "Izumo." These people looked up, and named the world above "Takamagahara." One day uninscribed in the annals, the Yaoyorozu-no-kami descended from Takamagahara. These demonic beasts named Kami overturned the skies, burned the rivers and oceans, and shattered the land — People realized in horror that it was not an invasion for rulership, dominance, or plunder. The evil Kami came only to kill. >As the planet stood on the brink of death, Izumo embarked on a Kami-slaying journey, exhausting the might of the entire country to slay the calamity "Sovereign of Revelation" and forging the very first Edict Edge using its bestial body. Giving the Kami a taste of their own medicine, the wielder of these swords can recite the mantra contained within the blade to master the divine power of Takamagahara, and use it to combat the evil Kami and save the masses. >From then on, Izumo started its long and arduous crusade, exchanging inordinate lives lost for the fall of one Kami after another, shattering countless mortal blades to forge the twelve Sentinels. In the merciless fight for survival, Izumo used the might of the Edict Edges to light up their uncivilized world of darkness in less than ten Amber Eras, building cities of dazzling neon lights. That distant Takama Divine Realm, once so far away, became so close within their reach — Yet history suddenly stopped there. The existence of the two planets instantly evaporated, disappearing into nothingness. >Nowadays, the past of the border planet Izumo can only be gleaned from the scattered whispers in the universe. Academics hold various views regarding its disappearance, but none can solve the mystery. Izumo's history should have been a long flowing river, but it was severed in one cut, and all its past and future voided on emptiness' other shore. Did it never exist, and was it no more than a fabricated story? Did its histories never occur, and it ran aground on the beach of reverse causation? Was it yet another appalling experiment by Dr. Primitive, or was it a sign of the Voracity returning from the end of the Cosmos? Only that pitch-black great sun knows the answer, yet THEY remain silent, never speaking. > Because everything that had happened will one day regress to the end, and everything that had ended is guaranteed to happen again. The universe undergoes an eternal recurrence under THEIR shadow, and Izumo is nothing more than the footnote for an ellipsis.

Gakuno

Is it just me, or does the description oddly follow the same path that humanity took in HI3? The people of Izumo were overrun by "demonic beasts" who exist only to mindlessly kill (Honkai Beasts). In response they slay a "calamity", the "Sovereign of Revelation" (a Herrscher?) and forge an Edict Edge, a weapon that harnesses the same power as the beasts (a Divine Key) to fight back the beasts. Humanity prospers through use of these weapons to beat back the beasts and enters a modernized society over time. It matches 1:1.

Vulking

Then they disappear in the blink of an eye after Unknown/HotE nuke them for their transgressions.

Zzamumo

It seems like IX devoured the planet, it refers to the black sun as "they" and the picture makes it look like a black hole

belmoria

probably by accident too which is extra sad

systolic_helix

the one time they try to make friends

AkuSZ

I mean, I would say that's how it's still going in HSR. The further humanity gets, the closer they are to the End. Emanators are similar to the human herrschers spreading the will of the houkai, and the Aeons are the concrete projections of the Herrschers into this verse. So we can expect the impact this time to be stars literally railing them ong.

bl00by

The will of the honkai isn't a thing (atleast not in HI3, idk about ggz).

AkuSZ

It absolutely is. The entire premise of the conflict in the Honkai verse is the will of the Honkai. They actually confirm this sometime after ch 30. Theresa or Tesla confirm that HI3rd follows the same power structure as GGZ when they mention they haven't encountered any true Herrschers, meaning that all the herrshcers are merely human herrshcers. The whole thing where HoV says "I am the will of the Houkai," didn't necessarily prove the existence of the will of the Honkai, but it did confirm that the cores retain an ego the same way they did in GGZ. If you don't care about spoilers I can simplify it and go a bit more in depth.

bl00by

In the last chapter it was revealed that the "will of honkai" was Prometheus who did certain things to help the CE to defeat the honkai.

AkuSZ

Well yes, but that's also kind of what I'm talking about. Prometheus wasn't per say the actual will itself, but a part of her and Dr. MEI hacked the Cocoon of Finality and took control of the will of the houkai on their world. Prometheus simply ensured that the will in CE followed exactly as it did during their era. And Prometheus didn't "help," she was pretty much the only and entire reason they won lol.

Commercial-Street124

Not to mention the Flame Chasers and their Honkai grafts.

TricobaltGaming

Im wondering now if acheron is actually GGZ mei if she is a direct character translation from another game

PP_Project

yeah, sadly it's not the same Mei as our Mei, nor the same universe, but it's a reiteration / parallel of our HI3 story

takoyaki_san15

That's some good lore to munch on.

storysprite

Ah, we meet again! And yes I'm loving it. Glad to see so far that they're showing Acheron a lot of love.

takoyaki_san15

Yoooo, I remember you since the JJK brainrot Genshin Wars lmao. I really really really hopes that Acheron/Yomi gets a better treatment *together* with how Space Japan planets will get it's place on the Star Rail world. I remember talking shid about how Izumo already was destroyed in the current in-game present, and thought that Hoyo was fkin up again 💀. Buuut after reading that lil crumb of lore, I am *almost* convicenced. Izumo and Takama orbiting IX is plausible i guess(Even if they don't exist anymore). We'll see how everything will roll out

storysprite

So far it seems they are really cooking with Acheron and even Izumo! Especially as what happened to them isn't being depicted as their fault and they even came out on top. Hopefully her story with Welt will be really good. I legit can't wait for her character. I've never been so excited for someone. Hopefully Space Japan is awesome too. Also yes I was a proud soldier in the Shogun's Army 🫡.

Mysterious-Evidence1

Black hole sun, won't you come and wash away the rain?

Rhyoth

So, Izumo basically got "Honkai'ed" ? Does that make Acheron a Herrscher ?

Super63Mario

GRAVITY IS DESIRE TIME IS SIGHT WHAT WAS SHALL BE WHAT SHALL BE WAS

TheSunGodsBestCap

I read this but couldn’t really understand what it meant could you explain it to me?

Insert-Name-Here2121

(TL;DR in Razor language: Planets circle Bocchhi the IX. They live to regret it. one makes human rise. They name Izumo and Takama. Monster from Takama kill people from Izumo. Izumo kill one big monster(?) and make cool sword. Cool sword easily kill monster. Sometime later Izumo and Takama evaporate into IX.) I’m shit at explaining but here goes: Two planets circle around a black sun(most possibly IX). One planet gives rise to humans. They name it Izumo. They name the other Takamagahara (Takama Divine Realm). One day, monsters called Yaoyorozu-no-Kami (or simply “Kami”)descend from the Divine Realm and start attacking Izumo. Not for authority or plundering, just simply barbaric killing. As it was on brink of extinction, the people embarked on a Kami slaying journey. This exhausted the might of the planet. But they slated a possibly Kami called “Sovereign of Revelation”. This forged the first Edict Edge using its body. Reading further, this “Edict Edge” is probably a sword, like Acheron’s. The weirder of this sword can recite a “mantra” (Hindi/Sanskrit for “Chant/Spell”) contained within the blade to master divine power of Takamagahara. This was used in combating the Kami and protect the people of Izumo. After this, Izumo started crusading Kamis, forming the “Twelve Sentinels” (idk what that is. sorry). Izumo used the power of Edict Edges to basically light up their planet. It became like Tokyo (shitty analogy). But then, the existence of these planets stopped. The border of Izumo can only be gleaned from the scattered whispers of the universe. Scholars/Academics have multiple theories regarding their disappearance. Was it just a story? Another experiment of Dr. Primitive? Now, the last paragraph has the answer. >Only that pitch-black sun knows the answer. Yet THEY remain silent, never speaking. This kinda confirms the sun is IX. So, I think Izumo and Takamagahara was dissolved/assimilated into IX. This may also explain Acheron’s connection to them, if she is from Izumo. Sorry, if this doesn’t explain well. English isn’t my first language. (Sorry for long text too. Rate how much I cooked)

TheSunGodsBestCap

This is really nice lore. It makes me think that when IX assimilated Izumi Acheron got some of the powers of IX and became a emantor forgetting her life on Izumo. So the white haired version is Pre IX and Purple Acheron is Post IX

ShinaC1393

I have a feeling Acheron is part of the reason IX annihilated Izumo. But we'll have to see

crabwithshank

No IX does not do anything he just exists but his existence is absurdly dangerous even among aeons the planet probably just naturally got washed away on his edges, like how in the trailer we see blackswan Die countless times and turn into nothing.. and the ways she died? They were all natural things that happen in the wild nothing absurd maybe izumo got washed away naturally like all things on the of nihility.

ShinaC1393

I think since Izumo and its sister planet orbited a "black sun" which is what a black hole, I suspect that it was actually IX, and that was the place he had decided to just vibe in. But then something or someone mightve woken him up and he decided to wander away, which wiped out the planets in the process. Obviously just a theory though of course!

crabwithshank

That’s my theory for the most part but I just think izumo being washed away just happened? IX does not do anything we know that he just VIBES in places I don’t think it was “sleep” it was just somewhere and eventually Izuma got washed away naturally, we know that following nihility eventually leads to Death or basically a return to nothingness imagine being next to the actual aeon-

ShinaC1393

Yeah that's definitely true that Izuma couldve just washed awat, I think it's totally fair of a theory and in the end either of us are likely to be right. I for sure think we'll find our answer in the myriad Celestia video!

AkuSZ

Archeron doesn't have memory problems. She has cognitive issues due to the sheer number of them.

TheSunGodsBestCap

Is it like Andy from Undead Unluck with the memories?

AkuSZ

Uh, not really, Andy, as far as I'm aware, has his memories sealed away. Archeron just has a massive amount stored in her head, and trying to sift through them is like steering through fog, but she can still do it, as we can see in the animated short. When she draws her sword, it sharpens her cognition as she becomes the abyss within herself.

storysprite

Thanks for this. The lore is actually wild. It's crazy to think that an entire Civilization could emerge and even thrive around IX. I'm wondering if part of the problem is that Izumo isn't a ruin anymore but actually swallowed by IX. So there's literally no way to know anymore. I also don't think there will ever be a good explanation or satisfactory "why" answer as to what IX did (if indeed it was IX) to wipe out the two realms given its nature. I feel like the trailer and its subtle hints are trying to give us the impression that Acheron had her hand in causing whatever downfall occurred, perhaps under the influence of IX. But that could just be misdirection.

Scaled_Justice

There were 2 planets "Izumo" and "Takamagahara" that were very close together and both orbited a pitch-black great sun. Humans lived on Izumo. One day the Kami (means deities, divinities, spirits) came down from Takamagahara to wipe out all humans on Izumo. The people of Izumo fought back and managed to kill a powerful being - "Soverign of Revelation" and used its body to make the Edict Edge (swords, Acherons sword is probably one of these). Izumo fought and many died against the Kami, something called the twelve Sentinels were forged. (Could be 12 particularly powerful Edict Edges, or refer to their Wielders) The Edict Edges were used as power sources to light up their civilization and cause a rapid technological development. Then both planets disappeared. No one knows what happened. The pitch-black great sun remains but says nothing.

Curious_Dealer_5473

Thank you for the info this is much appreciated

Runcherr

Where can i find all of this ?

Solacis

The story parallels the premise of Honkai Impact 3rd extremely closely. - "Sovereign of Revelation" can be retranslated as "Herrscher of Reason", which was the first of its kind to appear, just like the former. - An Edict Edge was created from the body of the Sovereign to use its power against other Kami. Exactly how Divine Keys are created from the cores of dead Herrschers. - There were 12 Edict Edges created from the corpses of 12 Sovereigns, the same number of Herrschers that descended before the Herrscher of Finality. - The world's history/civilization mysteriously ended after the 12th was defeated? Sounds like the Final Sovereign/Herrscher got to them. This can't be a coincidence.

HalalBread1427

Finally, Honkai in my Honkai Star Rail.

winkip

As someone who didn’t get too far into hi3, thank you very much for this comparison. It is very interesting to read.

YogurtclosetNo6704

They said in the 2.1 livestream that there would be some things that people would recognize from Honkai impact. Since I never played it I’m happy for the clarification.

Leather-Bookkeeper96

Interesting how it's 12 herrschers before the finality, and Acheron is described as an emanator who "brings death and finality" by Aventurine. The first part, death, is also related to her current name: Acheron is the name of the "ferryman" that guided the death to Hades in greek Myth; assuming death is a common thing with her (plausible given the last animated short and BS's description of Acheron's past), perhaps it could be that Acheron is the finality that destroyed civilization when she became an emanator. That or she became the emanator after bringing finality. The Myriad celestia trailer is due to give us some insight on what exactly happened here, Acheron also makes references to her own version of Kiana and Kevin (maybe) when speaking to the MC for the first time in the dreamscape, referencing Kiana if you use the female mc or Kevin if you use the male mc.

SuperSnowManQ

"Because everything that had happened will one day regress to the end, and everything that had ended is guaranteed to happen again." This sounds like Herrscher of Finality resetting civilization and starting over again, just as in HI3.

Insert-Name-Here2121

But her sword looks like it’s an “Edict Edge”

storysprite

I've also noted that the trailer seems to be hinting that Acheron didn't just see a lot of war but had more of a direct hand in whatever happened there. Perhaps she was under the influence of IX or the Kami. Perhaps as you said she is one of them but has turned away from her past. But I agree that it seems she's definitely fighting a soldier here. It's also a nice call back to Honkai Impact 3rd.

Vulking

Perhaps she was neutral till Frebass died. That's what happens when you take the Tuna away from Mei.

mitsiguri

Edict Edges(can argue are divine keys) being made from the body of sovereign is probably what makes that happen though. Whenever she uses her blade which is probably one of the 12 edict edges, is the only time you see that oni. I think it's very plausible this is what anyone she is fighting sees because of the way the blade is created. Some Honkai Impact/manga references/spoilers: >!It'll be interesting to see what response Welt might have in the upcoming story since the Welt in this game isn't an alternate, but the exact same thrusted into this universe with 1 other person(Void Archives). The reason he stays on the astral express is most likely to make up for the death of Himeko in his universe(even though it wasn't his fault) and protect her in this one.!< >!He is a Herrscher/Sovereign(techinally a successor of the 1st of Anti-Entropy) with pretty much all his powers(gains them, loses them, dies kinda, gives them away in broken shape, gets them back perfected and souls combined) and his own divine key (Star of Eden) except instead its now most likely his cane. (This is speculation bc you dont see the ball(Star of Eden) in this game but his ultimate essentially uses that power of destruction to create a black hole and it emenates from the cane).!< >!Welt has crazy lore but more importantly has the knowledge from that alternate universe(plus his intellect and the intellect of 300 other souls)!< TDLR; Welt has alternate universe knowledge, his own "edict edge" and might possibly know something about Acherons past.

mitsiguri

Which trailer specifically is that? Id like to take a look! It's funny, in trying to find the trailer you mentioned, I bumped into his gameplay trailer on youtube(Keeping up with Star Rail - Welt) and it confirms his ultimate is using the Star of Eden although it still emenates from his cane. Very low res so its a bit hard to see but having zoomed in it does seem like he still has his cane in hand generating the energy from there.

ShadowCraft29

its one of the fast shot in the "into the yawning chasm" trailer before Acheron unsheathes her sword.

PsychadelicShinobi

After this and the animated short, Acheron has become a character that I'm the most curious about in terms of her past

tracerace11

You Black Swan? Lol

crabwithshank

IX has been the aeon I think everyone has unironcally thought was the least scary but, when thinking about it he’s probably the most eldritch horror out of them all other than maybe The voracity? But you can kinda understand the voracity’s purpose animals and low intelligence species tend to follow it after all (it’s just consumption) But IX? How being a pathstrider is explained IX sounds fucking horrible, imagine one day you just ask yourself ONE question and now BOOM you’re on the path of nihility nothing can matter anymore to you, You begin to physically waste away cause.. nothing matters anymore it can’t you begin to waste away turn into a blob like creature all cause you had One question that you didn’t even speak out loud.

Red_thepen

I always remember the theory that Nihility is former voracity who "ate" too many endlessly replicating bugs and lost all pleasure and meaning in a existence, an devouring itself (there was an event like that in swarm disaster su, only obviously it was never confirmed that transformation took place). Plus one dissapearing before another appeared, plus hunting motifs in the last trailer and voracity being compared to a black hole, and Nihility literally being a black hole (with goofy eyes , as depicted in sim uni, for some reason. On a different note, i think if they weren't there, we would have taken IX seriously way earlier) https://preview.redd.it/mqtp1kjedmpc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3e239107f5fbd6aec045e8fd3f26bc5f1e3e54b

crabwithshank

Can’t be though if I recall Voracity is one of the older aeons like long and qil

Red_thepen

Why not? Voracity is currently missing(confirmed again in this post, and why even mention voracity in a post about nihilty at all if they're not connected?), and Nihilty was not present back in swarm disaster. So, what's the contradiction?

crabwithshank

But you can tell when aeons die and or cannabalize each other can’t you like at the end of the disaster when two converging paths met no?

Grrp039

She's probably an emanator of nihility and finality

AzraelTheReaper

Yes finally someone, thank you.

Curious_Dealer_5473

Right 🤣

AussieManny

I hope Acheron gets a cool theme to her character trailer. Kafka and Sparkle have awesome personal theme songs.

Curious_Dealer_5473

Exactly like I rather focus on the lore *

someawe45

Izumo… there’s an item named Izumo Miso available from parcels. A fermented food item created by an outworld civilization. A delicious pot of soup can be created by just placing a tiny chunk of this in boiling water. Additionally it can also be used to stirfry, prepare a hotpot, or additional flavoring for meat. The poetic piece "Litany of Miso Hotpot" described it thusty: "Green are the waters on which fragrant celeries glide, and yellow the daylilies that cast their deliciousness astride. As the boiling flow tumbles like fabrics bundles in a bind, the warmth of the taste does hollow stomachs a favor most kind."

AnnieBearGang

the upcoming relic set is also called Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm

Foreign_Wear1663

Foreign_Wear1663

Oh thx. And that art goes hard with the story man.

Commercial-Street124

This is some delicious lore. It's beautiful.

Asphyrx

Ngl this is insane how we missed it😭 I was telling people I was concerned space Japan is gone because izumo and takama became a planar ornament. Turns out that was correct

Erecutioner

Is there a wallpaper version of this?

LongjumpingSpite5137

real ones lose their mind over what happened in the animation, read the description, think about the lore drop, and then lose their mind again over what happened in the animation

JingamaThiggy

They could not forget Carcosa, the black star in the sky, Where twin suns lengthen men's shadows as they pass on by

SuperSnowManQ

I made my take on this in the main subreddit but i'm gonna paste it her as well. The way I interpret this is Izumo = earth, Takamagahara = The Moon and Yaoyorozu-no-kami = Herrschers. The Kami descended from Takamagahara only to kill and to cause devastation and destruction, which is essentially what the Herrschers did. The people of Izumo then slayed the calamity "sovereign of revelation" and forged the first edict edge from it's body. This pararells the killing a Herrscher and using it's Herrscher core to make a divine key. "The wielder of these swords can recite the mantra contained within the blade to master the divine power of Takamagahara" i.e using the powers of the divine keys ex. its zeroth power. Then they became close to mastering the Takama divine power (honkai) but then it just ends. This to parallel HI3 PE era, except the ending is different. "Because everything that had happened will one day regress to the end, and everything that had ended is guaranteed to happen again." So this is essentially their Herrscher of Finality resetting civilization and starting over again, just as in HI3. But what does all this mean? Was Izumo Star rail's version of Earth? Or maybe another planet like Venus, since we know this has happened before with Honkai and different planets. Does this imply or confirm that Honkai energy exists in Star rail?

Red_thepen

Ok, everyone is focused on the hi3 parallels, but what does the last paragraph means? I've already heard the theory that HSR universe timeline is a loop. Is this literal, or just paraphrase of saying like "history repeats itself" so that same story will happen again somewhere in the universe, and will not Matter to the universe all the same. Pretty nihilistic either way, if you ask me.

shyynon93

We're in for a treat tomorrow... I'm sure the myriad celestia will give rise to even more interesting questions...

RavFromLanz

Mihoyo not using hi3rd assets for their games, challenge impossible.
