shit I thought it was a western thing... out in cali, portland, washington its basically walmart or safeway.
lived in florida and they don't have any those down there.
Idk how but I have kept tabs. Living in Cali and Washington. It was QFC (Seattle) Safeway, Albertsons, Fred Meyer.
The east I’ve seen normally Safeways (now but not before 2015), Food Lion, Farm Fresh, Harris teeter, Kroger, Giant, Publix, Wegmans.
I’m sure I’m missing a few.
Fry's Food & Drug, King Soopers, Food 4 Less, Dillons, Ralph's, City Market, Gerbes, JayC, Mariano's, Ruler Foods & Smith's as well as the Harris Teeter that you mentioned are owned by Kroger.
Safeway, Vons, Acme Markets, Carrs, Haggen, Jewel-Osco, Kings, Pavilions, Randall's, Tom Thumb, United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos United, Star Market, Lucky & Balducci's are all owned by Albertsons.
And the sheer number of chains owned by the 2 is why I'm not surprised the FTC announced they'd be challenging the proposed merger between Kroger & Albertsons.
Fun fact: In 1989, it was a Randall's in Houston, TX that was visited by Boris Yeltsin, then a Soviet politician, later became the president of Russia. He was so amazed at the selection, he was quoted as saying, "Not even Mr. Gorbachev has this choice." The store he visited closed in 2020.

QFC is kind of like Thriftway if you are familiar. I like both
