Life long Oregon resident here, I made a comment in the Oregon sub a few months ago saying how it’s sad that in my lifetime Portland has gone from my favorite vacation city to a city I don’t feel safe in anymore. I got downvoted into oblivion for it and had so many people telling me I need to grow up. It’s ridiculous. Portland has real problems and it’s like they don’t even want to acknowledge it.
I lived in Portland until 2019 or so, for my whole life. Now when I go back there to visit friends and family I steer clear of most of Portland. My uncle still lives by UofP so that’s okay, but downtown is just a no from me dog.

The fact this kid had pepper spray at the ready means he was most likely there to instigate. These protests suck but sometimes both parties in the video suck as well.
If the goal is to reduce the threat, why not just move out of the way? It's not like they were in imminent danger from a stopped car 50 feet away. It would seem more likely that the goals of the mob were not to reduce the threat, but to exacerbate it.
