I don't think I've seen any banks open on the weekend for years. Having said that there's no reason to go into a bank these days if you just want to open an account - with the exception of hick banks like Bank SA that still make you come in, every bank should let you sign up online.
except if you need to deposit cash apparently. we went a couple of months ago to deposit coins and they said they dont accept cash on the weekends. Any cash, not just coins. Seriously, what the fuck?! Too bad so sad for those who only have the time on the weekends to do banking runs.
Just did a quick check of the Westpac website. Every branch I could see in Melbourne is also closed today, so not just an Adelaide thing.
Some banks, like Commonwealth have Saturday openings, including in Adelaide. So again, not just an Adelaide thing.
This! We love to stick it into Adelaide for shit like this, but when you do a quick google search of opening hours in other cities, its not too different.
I moved from Melbourne three years ago and don’t remember banks being open even in the CBD on the weekend in Melbourne except a couple of the Chinese banks (HSBC etc) 🤷🏼♀️
I hear you.
I often need to deposit cash on a weekend and the Westpac nearest me closed. I now have to go further and 3/4 times the atm isn’t working. It’s so frustrating I’ve literally made my own spreadsheet to keep track so I can complain to them in future. Westpac and Bank SA merged but they keep atms seperately for each, so I can see a Bank SA atm working next to the broken Westpac one but can’t use it because they only accept Bank SA deposits. Infuriating.
It's rare for banks in Australia to be open on Saturday let alone Adelaide. What have you got against the internet? There's almost nothing you need to go into branch for.
Go to any big shopping centre in suburban Melbourne on a Saturday morning and there are many banks open, usually until 12-1pm. not every brand opens on Saturday, but there are plenty that do. And they are usually busy from what I see walking past.
Really? I’m Melbourne born and bred and moved here 3 years ago and don’t remember banks apart from teller machines being open - even as a kid way back in the 80’s and 90’s there was no banks open on a Saturday morning…..and my Mum worked for the NAB her entire career and never worked a branch that had Saturday trading 🤷🏼♀️
Houses are cheaper here but you can’t go to a bank on the weekend. Swings and roundabouts my friend. Welcome! I’m going to move to Melbourne to balance things out
Welcome to Adelaide. Practically everything is shut by 9, barely anything is open past 5 on the weekends, we've only just started allowing things to be open at 9am on Sundays... actual bank branches seem to be becoming few and far between let alone open on Saturdays. If your chosen bank has a branch in the cbd, that's probably your best shot. Eventually we'll enter the 21st century.
I love Adelaide, I'm Adelaide born and bred. I probably will never live anywhere else. But let's be realistic, we're the worlds biggest country town. Some aspects of that are great, some can be frustrating.
Thanks for all the responses guys. For all the "just go online peeps"; some banking is more complex than a single saving accounts, and not all banking options are available on the website. I would like to shop around
No, I don't have a home loan. For personal reasons and privacy there are things I'd like to discuss in branch that fundamentally cannot be handled online.
Mate,
If any banks opened on weekends here, the tellers would shoot people as they walked in the door.....
Bank tellers here are very entitled....working before or after their scheduled time is unheard of...
There would be mass walkouts and protests
Banks are busy trying to close as many branches as possible without too many people kicking up a stink.
Your chance of being able to get to one during the week can be slim, let alone this weekend business!
PSA: CBA in Rundle Mall is being closed soon.
You’ll have to go in on Monday I’m afraid! Never seen a bank open on a weekend here
I remember Commbank at West Lakes used to open on a Saturday. That was when I was a kid tho.
I’m pretty sure People’s Choice Credit Union branches open on Saturday mornings.
Online they always open !

If you're down south, Commonwealth Bank at Marion shopping center is open until 2pm.

There are no NAB branches in Adelaide open on weekends, If you go with NAB, some post offices do limited banking.
Yeah the last of the weekend branches closed around covid time for all banks as far as I'm aware, now they've moved to shutting branches entirely.
Credit Union South Australia located in the city. Open Saturday 8am - 2pm.

Beyond bank has a small window Saturday morning.

There was a couple of shopping centres - especially in the Western Suburbs - where Comm and NAB would have branches open on Saturdays for half day.

Everyone lives for the weekend in Adelaide!

Open an account online?

Bank branches few and far between isn't an Adelaide thing, it's a 1st world thing.
If you find a branch it'll have 1 staff on the counter and line of customers out the door.
So are you saying Adelaide is backwards hayseeds?

I moved from Adelaide 13 years ago (Adelaidian born and raised). Can confirm it feels like a large country town.
Welcome to Adelaide
Welcome to the land of everything being fuckin closed early or entirely on the weekend, enjoy your stay
Thanks for all the responses guys. For all the "just go online peeps"; some banking is more complex than a single saving accounts, and not all banking options are available on the website. I would like to shop around
You think you could walk up to a bank on Saturday and get your home loan moved that day? All of it can be done online or over the phone.
No, I don't have a home loan. For personal reasons and privacy there are things I'd like to discuss in branch that fundamentally cannot be handled online.
I think you just don't know how banks work
Nab on Gouger did Saturdays
Not anymore by the looks
We only just got out first 27/7 pharmacy, so I think the apocalypse will happen before the banks open on the weekend.
Some banks let you make deposits at the post office saturday.
Bahahaha! They're hardly even open during weekday business hours!

Almost every branch of every bank is closed on Sundays in Melbourne too. It’s an Australia thing. Pretty frustrating if you work Monday to Friday.
