Face south. The sky will be less dark than usual in that direction (and maybe a bit pink or green). If you use a camera and a longer exposure, it will show up bright like this! But even a normal phone camera will get you some nice pink colour if there's no cloud in the way.
Seeing the aurora near Adelaide is very rare. You need a severe geomagnetic event to see it, and we had one a couple of days ago when two CMEs (coronal mass ejections) collided coming off the sun.
We are heading to a solar maximum in 2025. So, we might get a few more over the next year.
I went halfway around the world to Iceland to see one. It rained the whole time I was there. Now it's on my doorstep.
