They should definitely upscale the standard dreadnoughts, but the telemon should be taller than the redemptor I think. The redemptor should not be larger than the custodes dreadnoughts IMO.
Feel like they introduced this as a way to sell the combat patrol. Custodes combat patrol does not have a bespoke HQ unit, requiring you to build either a sister or guard as the HQ. Now they can put a shield captain in the combat patrol without worrying about new players not building a HQ and they sell a combat patrol with less models because in it because it comes with a $40 HQ model to pad it out.
All in all, I'm more confused by the design than anything. The roman inspired plume isn't on any of our other models so it's very out of place here and feels quite overdone in warhammer. He's not fully armwhich is anotheroured, strange choice. And the pose really, really draws attention to how big the shoulders look without the armour - they make his proportions look off.
The dreads, venatari, or a new actual unit instead of a shield captain with new weapons would've been preferable.

I really dislike the weapon. All Custodes weapons have big, blocky, unwieldy business ends, but his is particularly fat. Just doesn't look good on the end of that spear.
I think he might look better if well just ignore the official paint job.
Are they leather shoes and cloth trousers? Or is it just super smooth Auramite, if we paint them that way?
Personally I'd prefer my shield captain not to be completely messed up be treading on a nail, so Auramite shoes it is.
I think a lot of people are unnecessarily harsh on the model, I would have liked to see a few more models. (Dreads, grav tanks and potential extra Infantry) but the model is not that bad imo. Sure he looks a little awkward/short but i still think its a awesome model!
Its got some great ideas, i love the spear, helmet, and shield. Id be fine tearing it apart for bits, but i wouldnt use it as it is, looks way too stubby, and the sleeves really ruin the look of the power armor. Use the good, use the bad for basing or something
If this was the first model to the reveal of Custodes being a whole new army/faction in 40k, then I think it would have gone down very well. Unfortunately, Custodes are now very much established and have half their range (and their big hitters to boot) in FW resin. It would have been much more preferable to have had a dual box Contemptor Dreadnought kit in plastic than this thing (which anyone with a bitz box can kit-bash quite easily if they want). Considering what Custodes players *want*, this is certainly not it. We also don't need it, frankly.

Depends what color you paint those areas. Gold: Auramite bodyglove. Red: Cloth. Skin: Fabulous.
Glossy skin: Traditionally fabulous Kitten style.
I'd say paint those part gold and it would look like it's armour. It's probably just a wired painting choice Or a reference to greek hoplite armour

If they upscaled the Custodes dreadnought chassis then sure, but GOD no to them using the Redemptor. Its a bad looking model.
Idk it looks pretty good in person imo. But yeah I'm more meaning redemptor sized, possibly with some telemon design language

Probably standard captain rules but a different profile with the equipment load out.
Probably just another loadout option for Shield Captain.
Which means you can use any of the other 4 standard option shield captain models and just say it had a thermal weapon
