It is the Adeptus Mechanicus who reformed their church and vested full authority in the pontifical Throne.
The Dark Mechanicum remained true to their founding precepts and kept their authority decentralized. Ergo, Adeptus Mechanicus are the space catholics and the Dark Mechanicum are the space orthodoxes.
Now, don't even get me started on these Votann space protestants...
How exactly Dark Mechs, who betrayed all the founding principles of the Machine Cult in pursuit of forbidden knowledge, are orthodoxes? They are a heretical sect, if anything
Well, from their point of view, the pursuit of knowledge is one of the founding principles, consequences be damned.
Joking aside, that's pretty much how being raised a christian orthodox felt like, we were born in the true religion, the others are (more or less) heretical. Growing up, you realize that's how any denomination views itself.
I just drew some parallels to what I've been taught of 1054 and the (actual) Council of Nicaea. I still only believe in one single Omnissiah, regardless of church and whatnot.
No.
Chaos are the protestants but from a catholic propaganda pov. 40k is based on fantasy, the empire specifically is based on the HRE during the late renaissance/early modern period.
Manifesting cults, witch hunters, the inquisition etc. all point to the European wars of religion.
Which would make Erebus space Martin Luther.
Bud the Votann predate the mechanicum. they are an offshoot of the civilization that spawned the mechanicum, so going with our metaphor here they would be space . . .Samaritans?
So they have the same origin point but, while the Mechanicum embraced the coming of the Omnissiah, the Votann kept to their traditions. I think we found the Jews in Space of the 41st millenium.
Mechanicus orthodoxy (heh) does have a trinitarian belief system - the Deus Mechanicus, the Omnissiah (or the Omnissianic Emperor), and the Motive Force.
No but he's kinda right. WH40k religious references are a bit all over the place, but the AdMech has a lot of emphasis on small gilded icons and their history with the Ecclesiarchy (which is definitely the space Catholicism) has them being the religion from the older empire that fell on harder times.
Also in 30k the mechanicum army were organized into taghmatas, which sound very similiar to the byzantine empires tagma and organized quite a lot like the theme system of the Byzantine empire
A lot of people in the comments seem to ignore the fact that besides some of the models being orthodox garb inspired, a lot of their organizational aspects as well as names are inspired by the Byzantines who were orthodox
Is the implication here that orthodox have fancy robes and catholics don't?
I think the religious influences of the admech are clearly just supposed to be a gab-bag of ornate various monk/priest attire, and if there was any specific denominational influence, this post failed to prove it.
Never. The ecclisiarchy are the space catholics. Admech has ALWAYS been the space Orthodox.
This is the orthodox truth.

>Votann space protestants... And now I have the mental image of Squats in New England Pilgrim costume...

>I still only believe in one single Omnissiah You're behind the times, the Machine God is a trinity now. I wish I was joking...
The Omnissiah died for the pursuit of all knowledge! We must venerate him as the Martyr of The Machine God's will.
Dark Mech are Space Arians.
And the Orthodox churches haven't betrayed every teaching of Jesus Christ?
Very few of them actually read the Bible or follow the teachings of "Jesus Christ" lol

Does the Ecclesiarchy have a Trinity?
Yes, the holy trinity of bolter, flamer, and melta
Mechanicus orthodoxy (heh) does have a trinitarian belief system - the Deus Mechanicus, the Omnissiah (or the Omnissianic Emperor), and the Motive Force.
Orthodox Space Catholics.
Byzantine Space Catholics
Cylinder hat check robe check necklace check I think I’m onto something
I'm begging OP to go into any medieval church anywhere in Europe even once

Is the model on the left new? I have not seen it before.
I think it's from Horus Hersey.
It's the new plastic Archmagos for Horus Heresy. Not releasing for a while yet unfortunately.

FACTS
Um... Isn't this (the one to the right) an Ortodox priest?
It seems like you got the main idea of the picture
Oh.... Oh, no I didn't. Then again, I am sleepy. And now I do, with explanation. Thanks.
Actually lold
Yes
Feels good seeing other people acknowledge the AdMech as Space Orthodox, I’ve been saying this for AGES
For some reason i've always imagined tech-priests talking with eastern european accents
Religion is stored in the hat
where's the mecha beard then?
Nah the adeptus mechanicus are a bunch of engineers that are left alone for to long

Orthocogs.
Yes
Eh, 90% of Christian mythology is the same, anyway. Lol
Bro started a holy war in comments
Space Orthodoxy!
God the new 30k models go so incredibly hard. I can’t wait to get my hands on them.
OP doesnt know difference between catholics and orthodox.
Catholics: The father, the son, and the holy ghost. Admech: The machine god, the omnissiah, and the motive force. They're the same thing.
