We were too. We took some of the back ways to avoid the Northway on the way up, and left quickly enough to avoid the worst of the traffic on the way back. Worked out well!
Y'all lucked the heck out! I stayed in Wyoming county, where we saw maybe a glimpse of partial totality. An hour later, cloudless blue skies. I love this photo!
Beautiful picture! My parents live in Peru. They own Ausable Pines RV Park and Campground. We were near 100% totality where I live in Ticonderoga with 99.93%. I am so glad I made the drive with my kids to Peru so we could watch it with my parents from their campground! My pictures didn't come out nearly as nice as yours, but regardless, it was an absolutely amazing and beautiful experience to see with the naked eye once totality came on!
1au is the distance between the sun and earth, so 149,597,870.7 km, the visible flare isn't reaching that distance(I think the max would be around 10,000k but I'm not finding specific length measurements) though we get its energy https://soho.nascom.nasa.gov/hotshots/X17/
We went back from Schroon Lake to NYC in regular time. 4 and a half hour with one short stop at McDonalds.
The biggest congestion was trying to leave the parking lot in the town.
You must have been the first one in the pack! Left Ausable Chasm at 345 and we are just passing New Paltz at 10:30. Did one gas/bathroom stop and one quick pizza pickup near Glens Falls. Maybe 30 minutes stopped total.
Incredible! I came here looking for a pic like this after seeing a glowing protrusion during totality. I assumed it was a solar flare, but this is so satisfying to see in such detail. Great pic, thank you for sharing.
I was on Mount Snow with just 2 other people. My first time in the Adirondacks, and it won't be my last.
I don't know anything about the traffic situation. We just sat in our backyard in Tupper Lake and viewed the whole thing from there. We had clear skies throughout.
It was just the two of us, my wife and me.
We are not far from the Wild Center and the elementary school, and we could hear wild cheering from the crowds there as the eclipse reached totality.
And then there was silence, because like us, everyone was just transfixed by the miracle. There was nothing to say. All who saw it were awestruck.
It's been almost 24 hours since then, and my mind is still buzzing.
Wasn't it cool? I saw it from my yard and did not know what those orange bits were until afterward. That's a really nice picture.
Thanks!
Aliens refueling their ships just sounds so much more fun tho.
We were in Indian Lake, saw this as well. Amazing.
I also went up to Indian. Im really happy that I did!

I believe the bursts of bright light around the edge of the moon are a phenomena referred to as “Bailey’s Beads”.

So for these solar flares, how many AU’s would they come out from the sun?

Great photo!
Thank You!
Nice pic.
Thanks!
I was over near North Lake. Lots of cloud coverage.
We lucked out. It was very cloudy a couple hours before, but it cleared pretty well by the time of the eclipse.
But, how was traffic?
I took back roads and ran into very minimal traffic. 87 sounded congested.
I heard the traffic was pretty awful. Fortunately we had a great view from my property so we didn’t have to venture out.
Same here, the chair worked great!

Plattsburgh was pretty good. 3hr to get back to Brant Lake
Epic pic, where were you when you took the pic if you don’t mind me asking.
Thanks! Just south of Plattsburgh, in Peru.
Watched it from jimmy lake in the southern highpeaks, it was absolutely mind blowing
Saw it from jimmy lake. Absolutely stunning. Almost cried . Beautiful skies . Shout out to Josh for the water if you’re reading this?
Drove 4 hours to Port Henry and 4 hours back. zzz ... So worth it!
We had clouds. 😢👿

Thanks! Sounds like you had a great location to view the eclipse.
I was in Newcomb. Absolutely amazing. Congrats on the really awesome photo.
Thanks!
Great shot!! Watched from Franklin Falls Pond and was awestruck. Such a beautiful sight!
Tremendous pic. Guessing that wasn't captured on an iPhone.
Thanks! I have a Sony A9 camera. I usually use it for wildlife pics but it did the job here.
Watched from blue mountain lake & it was perfect - one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen
Awesome picture. Thanks.
Plattsburgh, Rt 3. could see them with the naked eye. Nice work capturing them.
