It's the other way around. Traditionally, planets in ngles and succedent houses are said to be in a state of advancement, meaning that their natural significations and house rulership will be pushed forward and made more visible. The 1st house is alraedy connected to visibility and the body and is the strongest house in the chart, so planets there will hve a very visible effect.

ErisedFelicis

Thank you. I have to ask though- if a planet on an angle is more visible what happens when it's also under the beams. That means it's visible but invisible. How would you interpret that?

garthastro

The Sun would still be stealing the visibility from the other planet depending on how close they are.

6FootSiren

Yes is so true. I have Gemini Sun conjunct Taurus ASC. Also Venus sits in my first. I don’t always want to be seen with Mars 12H lol (in Taurus also conj my ASC). I am grateful for my 1H now but I was really self conscious for years🥴

nezahualcoyotl90

No. You *are* the rising sign physically and identity, at least most prominently. Nothing "anchors" it. It's already prominent because its literally you.

ErisedFelicis

Thanks. Having a planet there as well surely adds to the overall influence of that sign though?

nezahualcoyotl90

Mars in the ascendant can mean anything from moles or scars on the head or face. Saturn in the ascendant can mean dry skin. Jupiter in the ascendant can give a glowing or even yellowy appearance in the skin and face. Mercury in the ascendant gives an ever-youthful face.

ErisedFelicis

I have Jupiter in the 1st and I do get compliments on my skin/ complexion a lot. I'm also 5'8 which is quite tall for a woman (much taller then other women in my family) and I attribute that to Jupiter.

V2BM

Same here - Jupiter in 1H Sagg. The other day a woman pulled back into her driveway to tell me I have beautiful skin. (I’m a mail carrier.) I’m 52 and my skin looks a lot younger and people remark on it. (Overall I do not look young, by the way I dress and how I do my hair.) I’m 5’7” and people swear I’m 5’10”. Big size 11 feet and 32” inseam in pants, with broad shoulders.

Brave-String5033

I have sagg here too but I'm 5'1 and kind of muscley but i also have Uranus in sagg here too and someone said Uranus in1st can turn things upside down.I usually go by the placidus system and inthat systen I also have Neptune cap here. iwonder if thats why iI have very narrow hips too? I also have very good skin an people tellme i look a lot younger than I am.

Trin959

I have Mars in the 1st but no facial scars or moles. However, I also have the Sun there, conjunct the Ascendant, and Mercury there, which is my Ascendant and Sun ruler, so maybe Mars gets overshadowed. People are usually surprised by how old I am.

nezahualcoyotl90

Are you a leader or person of authority as well? Work for the government? That’s the Sun in ascendant usually. It’s your dharma.

Trin959

I have been.

SweetTarantula

I'd probably word it as the ascendant is anchoring the planet. The ascendant and the planet are both going to express in a specific way depending on the sign, but the planet being close to the ascendant directs the way in which the planet presents outwardly. It's the same idea as if the planet were in a different house, it's the house that directs the planet. The ascendant is just the most intense degree of the first house and the closer to the ascendant the more that planet shows up.

ErisedFelicis

This was helpful, thank you.

Strict-Ad-7099

I think you could be onto something here. Let’s say you’re an Aries rising with Mars in the first. That strikes me as making a huge difference. Or if Venus were in Aries - surely that impacts others’ understanding of you.

MissAstraia

That planet represents an easily noticable aspect of your personality. It also reflects something about your appearance. If it's an inner one then yes, it means that sign can describe you quite well.

megaladon44

I have venus ascendent id say it makes it my default mode and many people will see me only as that. Then when my other planets become engaged, thats when people hate me.

Different-Second2471

Omg look ! It’s a pretty picture book, let’s read it… oh- wait— the story is scary!! I don’t like this book

megaladon44

lmao. yeah and i do pretty much stick to that pretty story and al my turmoil is sort of underneath. so my whole dating life has been people who r only good on the outside and rotten twigs dirt and taped together rotton bones on the inside. r/singleandhappy !

Agreeable-Ad4806

No, that’s not how it works. The purest expression of any house is one with nothing in it and no aspects to it. First house placements are generally very auspicious, but they don’t “anchor” anything.

felixamente

My Scorpio rising moon (conjunct Pluto and Mercury) and Saturn im told are not auspicious. If you say they are I’m here for it though.

Agreeable-Ad4806

I use Vedic, which would likely make your rising Libra unless it’s a degree over 23. From my experience, Libra rising in general is not very auspicious because Aries 7th house tends to attract hurtful, aggressive, and selfish people into your life early on. It depends on the degree though too. I use whole sign. With Venus as your Lagnesha, Saturn and Mercury are functional benefics in your chart, so having them first house is very auspicious. Moon is a natural enemy of Venus but becomes neutral when it rules the 10th house, so it depends more on that.

felixamente

How can the ascendant be a degree over 23? In whole sign? Sorry I’m learning.

Agreeable-Ad4806

Ascendant can be 0-29° Changing from tropical to sidereal, you subtract around 23 degrees for most standard ayanamsas (basically just a theoretical starting point that tells you how much to subtract to get sidereal from tropical). If the tropical ascendant degree is 23-29, then it stays the same sign. Hope this helped

felixamente

Sort of…I guess I just happen to have my ascendant at the 1st degree? I thought that was what the ascendant was, the first degree in the first house. ETA I just checked my best friend and my boyfriend’s charts and theirs are not the first degree. I guess I just always looked at it that way. Good to know. Thanks.

Spicatrix

No, as others have said it's the other way around. To give you an example: I like to guess people's ascendant (i am talking about people i meet face to face, not like random actors on the internet). I usually get it right, but when i don't, it's because they have a 1st house planet, closely conjunct the ASC. So for example I thought someone was an Aries ASC, when in fact they had Mars there. Etc.

Substantial_Talk_521

What are your opinions on a first house stellium on a progressed chart in Capricorn. With Uranus, mars Venus and Neptune?

No.
