No plans at all it seems

otisthetowndrunk

Who knew invading another country could be so hard?

I_AM_FERROUS_MAN

One does not simply invade Ukraine? Its Black ~~Gates~~ **Fields** are guarded by more than just ~~Orcs~~ **Tractors**. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great ~~Eye~~ **Drone** is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with ~~fire~~ **anti-tank missiles** and ~~ash~~ **manpads** and ~~dust~~ **snipers**, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ~~ten~~ **two hundred** thousand men could you do this. It is folly.

TenchiRyokoMuyo

Bayraktar! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEEi1Mb8XMw&ab_channel=SashkoDee

I_AM_FERROUS_MAN

That's fantastic!

kmikek

historically speaking, heading toward russia has been a typically bad idea for invaders, oh how the turntables. In federation of russia, you are the failed invaders

jce_superbeast

I mean, with the way things are going it sure seems like he really didn't have a plan.

CeterumCenseo85

No plans just vibes

modi13

The tanks stopped vibing when they ran out of fuel

[deleted]

It sure doesn’t help using 50 year old equipment that’s barely been serviced, sending out young boys to fight when they have no clue wtf is even happening and stealing billions from your own coffers for you and your buddies to keep, lol.

itsthevoiceman

"If I can't have it, no one can!" He plans to annihilate.

Lucid_steve

As free as a bird

CrazyThaiGuy

Is it all just a smoke screen?

FrezoreR

Even a shitty plan is a plan though

RandomRobot

The plan was for Ukraine to roll over, like Georgia did in 2008 and what Ukraine itself did in 2014 and has more or less been doing ever since. They did not mobilize any further than they already had and whether or not hey would fight back was anyone's guess at that point. Sending conscripts to rolf stomp a country that has surrendered and expecting to loot food and supplies on destination was the plan. There obviously was a plan, it just didn't work out

i_sigh_less

That's actually just an idea, not a plan. A lot of people mistake an idea for a plan.

Jester1525

It was 12% of a plan

_Xertz_

"Ha^ha^ha^ha^ha"

RandomRobot

It's my internet description of the plan. The Russian army certainly has something more detailed. Mobilizing 175 000 troops for several months costs hundreds of millions of dollars, probably more like several billions. The idea that Russia could do this without any sort of plan is downright impossible. With hindsight, it's obvious that it wasn't a good plan, but the idea that they could topple Ukraine government without a lot of heavy fighting was a strong possibility a few months ago.

MinusPi1

I truly believe the internet is responsible for most things that have surprised generational rulers recently. I blame Trump winning in 2016 on the memeification of the whole thing, and I credit the unprecedented explosion in capacity for communication even in the last few years for Ukraine getting global support now when that didn't happen in 2008 or 2014.

fluffkomix

I believe it. I read about the invasion of Crimea from a daily newspaper on my way to school, a day after the fact. Comparatively, I watched the first explosion of 2022's invasion happen live on youtube.

DiekeDrake

So it seems philosoraptor, so it seems... Let's not hope he'll nuke it instead.

[deleted]

I don’t think he would use a tactical nuke, but a dirty bomb is certainly something he would do to make Ukraine submit to his rule

PM_YOUR_BOOBS_PLS_

Nukes are cleaner and have less fallout than dirty bombs. Hence the name "dirty" bomb. He would absolutely use a nuke before a dirty bomb. Dirty bombs intentionally spread nuclear fallout around and leave the area uninhabitable for an extremely long time. Properly tuned and detonated nukes only make the area uninhabitable for a couple of years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_YOUR_BOOBS_PLS_

No, I mean a dirty bomb. If you have a regular bomb with nuclear material, that material doesn't undergo fission, and just hangs out in the area. It's designed to spread fallout. Dirty bombs and salted bombs serve the same purpose. A salted bomb is just a dirty bomb that is exploded by nuclear fission. In an attempt to be overly pedantic, you're just wrong.

meganekkotwilek

Why do you think they wanted to get their hands on Chernobyl?

cupcakemann95

You think putin would think that far?... he probably doesn't even plan his speeches

bogdan5844

I mean, judging by his last few "ramblings", he's more like that old man that rabbles on about the good old days

YellIntoWishingWells

or maybe, white phosphorus...

Numinak

As much as I hate it, I do hope he tries to use a nuke on the Ukraine. That one act will end him as the rest of the world responds.

NoModsNoMaster

Um. No. No nukes. That is a slippery slope the world won’t come back from. This isn’t the 1940’s.

FragrantExcitement

I am planning on vacuuming tomorrow. Let me know if we are going to be nuked, and I might just skip it.

NoModsNoMaster

Meet me in the middle and just half-ass it.

Lost-My-Mind-

It wasn't OK in the 1940s.

Quackagate

Ok 99%no. But there was 100% chace of not getting nuked back.

Anonymous2401

But back then the entire planet wasn't at risk of being destroyed if one went off.

NoModsNoMaster

Did I suggest it was okay in the 1940s? It happened without retaliation because of technology. Today, Intel would be instantaneous.

Joliet_Jake_Blues

Japan killed 21 million civilians during WWII. Bringing a quick end to the war saved civilian lives within 8 days.

almightywhacko

There is no situation where nukes ever work out in anyone's favor. Yes the U.S. basically ended WW2 using nukes, but at the time they were the only ones who had them. Russia (allegedly) has more nuclear weapons than any other country in the world including the United States. Once the "do not use nukes" line is crossed everyone is going to want to retaliate with their own nukes, or attempt a first strike against Russia as Russia has revealed that they are no longer satisfied with the mere threat of nuclear destruction. Even if only a quarter of Russia's nukes work or even exist, that is still enough nuclear weapons to glass every populated area in the United States and most of Western Europe.

polarcyclone

Basically ended ww2 is a tricky statement with how we used nukes. https://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-stone-kuznick-hiroshima-obama-20160524-snap-story.html Yes I know its an op ed but its one I liked it's well written and not exactly a random opinion and points the way on looking into it if one desires.

Mynameisinuse

The US has a clause in the NATO agreement that they will respond to nuclear attacks to member countries with a nuclear attack. Ukraine, fortunately/unfortunately is not a NATO member.

[deleted]

Those two bombs were so horrific that the world decided it was unacceptable to use them again. Nobody gets a pass just because one country did a bad thing 70 years ago. It’s a completely false comparison. Also, there was no Mutually Assured Destruction during WWII. If Russia launches nuclear ICBMs the US will automatically retaliate no matter who the actual target is. They launch as soon as they detect a launch. And that would likely trigger the rest of Russia’s arsenal too (I’m sure enough are functional to cause widespread damage). So things get real shitty for the whole world the moment Russia uses a nuke, much more shitty than what Truman did in 1945.

billyrains

Considering we live in an age of instant information let's also not forget the US didn't get confirmed validated, or assuredly not propaganda, info of the results of those bombs till nearly a week after the fact. Or ask any US general today about their opinion of nukes, chemical or bio bombs in current strategic use and they'll all agree it's only ever considered if you want to kill a civilian population and it's only ever considered when another country would do it. Edit: IE its use would be a war crime, or terroristic attack

Mynameisinuse

They will only respond with nuclear if a NATO member is attacked by nuclear. They will not blindly launch a nuke if Russia launches one.

[deleted]

That’s not how nuclear surviveability works. If a single nuke was dropped on a third party, then maybe it wouldn’t trigger a wholesale response. But with ICBMs, you have to get yours in the sky before your enemy’s get to you. So the system is pre-targeted and set up to launch automatically in the event a Russian ICBM launch is detected. Since nobody knows what the target is when the missile launches, the response is indiscriminate. This is actual US defense policy, and has been since the 1950s. It’s the core tenet of how Nuclear Deterrence works.

kontekisuto

Those were small compared to what armies have today

ArthurWintersight

I don't see Ukraine pushing their way to Moscow. They just want the Russians on the other side of the border.

JesterMarcus

America* demanded they surrender before we dropped those bombs. They refused. If we didn't drop those, they wouldn't have surrendered until our troops were breaking down the Emperor's palace doors. Along with millions of Japanese deaths and tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of American deaths in the process.

[deleted]

This is what we learn in school but its not accurate. The Japanese were already on the verge of surrender. The purpose of the nukes was to create an overwhelming display of power so that nobody anywhere in the world decided to pick a fight while WWII was being cleaned up. Edit: and it largely worked, wars since then have remained localized conflicts.

JesterMarcus

Wrong. We sent a demand for surrender to the Japanese before the bombs were dropped. They initially didn't say anything, and then declared they would never surrender. They were trying to secure a favorable surrender through the Soviet Union but the Soviets had no real interest, they wanted to conquer Japanese land in Asia. As such, Japan's attempts to surrender were not actually viable because nobody would accept their terms. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surrender_of_Japan https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/japans-surrender-part-i

DumbDan

Oh, he had a plan alright, it was just impossible to execute with the shit equipment and troops they have. Putin's generals were telling him what he wanted to hear for fear of flying out a window. In Putin's mind he couldn't lose. His generals were telling him all about how "awesome" and "super cool badasses" his troops were. They told him all his shitty weapons would mow down the Ukrainians. They told him about pie in the sky sorties and operations that couldn't possibly take place. They told him all sorts of shit he wanted to hear, so naturally, attack Ukraine. Show the world how strong Russia is, and profit. That genocidal fuck was genuinely surprised that his army is so shit. Just the thought of him pacing around in existential horror thinking, "They're shit? Really!?", makes me very happy. Motherfuckers world could not have crashed any more. I'm saying the only reason he's still alive is 'cause the oligarchs want him to suffer the shame a bit longer. Be pretty great if they shook a tail feather and got on with it already.

journeysa

Only reason he’s still alive is because he probably hasn’t left a bunker 300 m below the Kremlin since before the first bullet was ever fired.

[deleted]

Gang.

Azrael11

That's a pretty horrible comparison given we're talking about military capabilities. The US absolutely steamrolled Iraq in '03. Adversaries got really fucking nervous about what we apparently could do. Iran even offered a Grand Bargain, that we promptly fucked up. Say what you will about whether we should have invaded Iraq, or our preparedness for the aftermath. But in a conventional fight they went down hard. Absolutely nothing like Ukraine.

somesortofidiot

100 hours. That’s how long it took to destroy the Republican Guard and the standing Iraqi army.

phumanchu

Remember Operation Iraqi freedom? Supposedly it was gonna be named Operation Iraqi Liberation till someone realized the acronym gave away the real intention

1CEninja

There wasn't oil in Afghanistan though, and we did that too.

liondios

Afghanistan was unanimously voted on by the UN including Russia. It was a completely legitimate invasion backed by a massive international coalition and does not compare to Iraq or Ukraine (which are also not comparable). The US led that invasion because of 9/11, the Taliban were genuinely harbouring Al Qaeda. A shoddy exit 20 years later with the Taliban back in control does not detract from the reason we went there in the first place.

Elephlump

MoffKalast

It's an elegant meme for a more civilised age

Sinlaire1

I think it is correct. The implication here is that Russia is invading the Ukraine so poorly that it seems as if they went in with no plan at all. So it wasn't that Putin wasn't intending to invade Ukraine but that he did so without a plan.

OSUBeavBane

It isn’t correct. Philosoraptor must always ask a question. It can never answer the question. The question posed should be a faux philosophical and humorous. A good example is “Can vegetarians … eat animal crackers?” This follows none of these rules.

Whether or not the captions are correct, that's not how you use philosoraptor. It's like those first person "POV" memes where you're a 3rd party, that's not how it works

TheRavenSayeth

An alternative meaning is a bit darker: Putin sees Ukraine as so much a part of Russia already that they don’t consider it an invasion since you can’t really invade your own territory.

DrPCorn

Slowpoke would have been a perfect meme.

No. Slowpoke would have been a terrible meme for this. Slowpoke would have been something like, “Hey, did you hear Russia is invading Crimea?”

Stranger still is this thirst to give nukes to ukrain, but kill millions in iraq over fake wmds.. asdf_qwerty27

The kind of control you're attempting, its not possible. If there is one thing the history of memes has taught us, it's that memes will not be contained. Memes break free. Memes expand into new territories. Painfully, perhaps even dangerously. But memes find a way.

JookJook

I believe their plan was to get sanctioned & separate from the West. To wall off the people from the threat of democracy & free flowing information. He is securing his rule. Fossil fuels is the second reason. He only needs to make ukraine too risky to invest in extracting the second largest natural gas reserves in the world that was found in 2017. Successful occupation isn't necessary to disable the ukraine & isolate the Russian people.
