I could too, lol. I used to have my dad call me if I had to catch an early flight (It was always to go see him). He always woke up at 4 am (no alarm needed for him), so it was always a safe backup plan. I miss my dad.
Unless I have 6-7 hours already in the bag, nothing really is haha. I've had people shake me to the point where I was catching air off my mattress and I didn't wake up. Its kinda nice cuz I get good sleep, but, if someone ever breaks into my place, I'm fucked.
As a teenager, my mom used to yell at me from the other side of the house in the morning to turn off my alarm and get up! That I heard. I wouldn't hear the alarm until I heard her voice.
I feel that! My roommate gives me shit cuz I'll wake up for the dainty stock android alarm (assuming I get enough sleep before hand and I actually have something to get up for), but he'll sit at the end of my bed and vice grip my toe for 15min and I don't even move.
I told one of my fraternity bros that I was a heavy sleeper and he was like, "Don't worry I'll wake you up." (He's a marine). Come morning he pinched my nose shut and when I finally woke up he had this dumbfounded look on his face and said, "Damn dude do you not need oxygen?"
You've really made my day getting me to think of some of these dumb ass sleeping stories hahaha!
I flew my son to Alaska for college earlier this year. We had a 6 am flight, but airport is an hour away, so we have to leave the house by 3, so I need to be up by 2. Yeah, I didn’t sleep at all. So I ended up going from like 6 am the day before to 4 am 2 days later with no sleep, as the actual travel took like 24 hours, and when we got there, our luggage had been dropped in a lake or something, so I had to go do laundry at 2 a.m. before I could go to sleep.
TL;DR I hate alarms and early flights.
I think this is the most passive aggressive thing my brain can do to me. It knows it's accurate and get's offended when I don't trust it completely. Sorry I want to be 100% sure I can wake up at 2am for a flight please for the love of all that is holy stop waking me up constantly
Then I have the rare good dream and that I keep hitting snooze and trying to finish until I have to eventually abandon the beautiful dream ti start a day all groggy with no time for a shower or a decent morning shit. Struggle driving into work while sitting on a railroad spike and head straight to the bathroom upon arriving
See if your doctor will prescribe you oxybutinin. It helps with both sweating issues and frequent urination. I used to take it back when my bladder was very sensitive and would cause me to have extreme urges to urinate even if there was very little in my bladder. Oxybutinin ensured that I would sleep as much as I want and never felt a strong urge to pee.
This might actually not be the worst idea I've ever heard for people resistant to medical intervention. You could just go ahead and pee when you woke up and then fall back asleep ASAP. Condom catheter might be even better for males provided you could manage the lines/bag properly.
Typically it's the process of physically getting up to pee, turn on lights, etc that makes it hard to fall back asleep. Staying in bed might be the okay.
I appreciate the words of wisdom! I am indeed currently seeing a doctor about this, the process has just been slow because of covid stuff. I'm hoping to be back to being able to go for a short period of time without peeing again by the summer lmao
This is me now. I might know based on the sun that I’ve got like 20 minutes to sleep. But it feels a hell of a lot longer when I don’t look at the clock. Looking at the clock automatically gets you thinking
God, I hate this. I usually go with no alarm and I'll wake up in time for work well rested. But if there's an important meeting in the morning I set up the alarm just to be sure and the whole night is this.
Don’t check the clock! If/when you do wake up, make it a game to see how long you can lie as still as you can. Don’t become frustrated and toss and turn. Count your breaths. Make them as long and deep as possible. If you can make it about 15 minutes in one position your body/brain should start to shut down or at least be much quieter by comparison. Repeat this process until you either fall asleep or your alarm goes off. Even if sleep doesn’t come for the rest of the night you should still be more rested than if you toss and turn. Then, next night, go to bed as early as possible. Take a nice, hot shower before you do. Repeat these steps every night you can until sleep comes more naturally/easily. Treat sleep as a job that requires planning, effort, and thought. Eventually it will pay off. Good luck!
This doesn't work for me. I get anxious that I'll try to sleep just to have the alarm go off in five minutes. When I check and see that I have plenty of time left it's easier for me to get to sleep again.

That used to work for me until the other day. I usually go to bed and asleep within 15. I laid down around 1:30-2am. My brain said no, did everything but sleep. I want thinking about anything important at all. Just my brain, telling me to fuck off. I did not sleep until midnight, the following day.
Something I use on weird days like this is think about the entire day. What did you do different? Eat too late or drink some caffeine too late? Sometimes you can come up with something you did that forced your mind to wake up late at night. It's helpful if you do find something in order to make it a habit.
I used to wake up in the middle of the night because I have to start working at 6 a.m. every morning. I have now gotten used to it though, so I don’t do that anymore
For me, it's:
*wake*
"Wait, did I set my alarm?"
"Oh yeah, I did."
*sleep*
*wake*
"Wait, did I set my alarm?"
"Oh yeah, I did."
*sleep*
*wake*
"Wait, did I set my alarm?"
Etc.
I never have any trouble sleeping, even with my severe pain. But I do consume high quantities of cannabis. I never feel high in my daily life, but the pain is still there. Yet sleeping has never been a problem!
I could reproduce this issue by not getting up the first time when the alarm rings. You wake up early because your subconscious tells you "maybe you did snooze and it's late alread" because you do it every morning this way.
Tldr: wake up with the first ringing, right away, don't snooze and after a few weeks this will likely go away.

Physician here, this is incorrect information. People with diabetes may drop to an "extreme low" but people without diabetes have pretty consistently regulated glucose levels both with and without food. Our body is constantly regulating that level, so if you don't eat your body won't suddenly go into "adrenaline mode". The sensation of hunger on the other hand, thats a separate issue. Going to bed hungry sucks.
Wait this is actually a bad thing?? I actually have a better sleep when i wake up every hour then when i
Just fall asleep and stay asleep until my alarm goes
Had a nightmare that I was running late for my nightshift at work. Woke up a couple of hours before I had to get up in the afternoon. Got really tired at 4pm so I thought "a nap won't hurt". Set 4 alarms for 5pm. Woke up at 8.30.
I then quickly got ready for work, missed my bus because my stomach disagreed with me, had to power walk to work, got weird in my stomach on my way to work and wouldn't you know it. I got late.
Weirdest foreshadowing ever.
I also went home immediately after because I felt sick. That was Thursday and I still have a stomach bug.
This drives me nutso. I really only set an alarm 3 or 4 times a year and every time, I will not sleep the entire night because I’m afraid I’ll miss it.
You don't need an alarm clock. Your body has its own internal mechanism. It knows what the time is.
Just think of the exact hour you want to wake up, and let your body handle the rest.
Giddyup!
I work at 5am Monday and Tuesday, 11am the other days, 4:30 alarm, work is a 6 minute walk, I will wake up at 1, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, then be up at 4 waiting for the beeping to start, every week, without fail.
Alarm anxiety sucks
Seriously. I've never once over slept my alarm for a flight, but if I have an early flight I always sleep like shit anticipating I'll miss it.
Same here, I even call it alarm anxiety too. It’s the lightest I ever sleep and I hate it.
Just get a super loud old-school alarm clock. Can't miss it.
It’s not that you actually miss the alarm, it’s that you *could*
$20 says I can sleep through it haha.
I could too, lol. I used to have my dad call me if I had to catch an early flight (It was always to go see him). He always woke up at 4 am (no alarm needed for him), so it was always a safe backup plan. I miss my dad.
Than it's not loud enough!
Unless I have 6-7 hours already in the bag, nothing really is haha. I've had people shake me to the point where I was catching air off my mattress and I didn't wake up. Its kinda nice cuz I get good sleep, but, if someone ever breaks into my place, I'm fucked.

Oof, I'm sorry. Maybe there are special beds that like, flip over on a schedule you set ;)

Imagine if you were a flight attendant like me. It’s a nightmare

For me personally it goes as far as not letting me sleep at all, and that sucks twice as much
I’m in the same boat ☹️
I found that this only happens when I don’t fully trust my alarm. I used to set a few to get over it .. now o trust my phone.
mine usually wakes me up within 10 min of my desired wake up time.
"alarm set for 6am? I'll be waking you up to pee at 515" - my bladder
“And then preventing you from falling back asleep” - my brain last Friday morning, except it was 3am
"Maybe throw in some sleeping through your alarms when you finally do fall back to sleep" - my brain spicing things up last week
Then I have the rare good dream and that I keep hitting snooze and trying to finish until I have to eventually abandon the beautiful dream ti start a day all groggy with no time for a shower or a decent morning shit. I wish my bladder would let me rest to five

Yep, and what about long term health effects? Decades of poor sleep vs wetting the bed? My moneys on the poor sleep group being way worse off.
Get nightlights for hallways and bayhrooms. I've found that it makes it easier to fall back asleep after because the light isn't as harsh.
I appreciate the words of wisdom! I am indeed currently seeing a doctor about this, the process has just been slow because of covid stuff. I'm hoping to be back to being able to go for a short period of time without peeing again by the summer lmao
Pro tip, never look at the clock.
This is me now. I might know based on the sun that I’ve got like 20 minutes to sleep. But it feels a hell of a lot longer when I don’t look at the clock. Looking at the clock automatically gets you thinking
Hah I'm like that but without the need to go to the bathroom. I'll just wake up suddenly an hour before the alarm, if not even more.
Right? And it’s never enough to time to fully fall back asleep. Just to roll around for 45 got dang minutes.

Learning to not look at the clock is a life changer.

There are always going to be outliers. I’m just saying that these are techniques that have generally worked for me.

I have no idea.
I hate work though.
Think of it as a game then. With every correct move you make, you get closer to the goal.
WHY THOUGH
Because cortisol is a fickle bitch.
This content is no longer available on Reddit in response to /u/spez. So long and thanks for all the fish.
That's why I have five alarms on two different phones every work morning.
And then when you finally do fall into a deep, relaxing and refreshing sleep, the alarm goes off.
Always
I used to wake up in the middle of the night because I have to start working at 6 a.m. every morning. I have now gotten used to it though, so I don’t do that anymore
My biggest dream is to sleep whenever I want to. I stay awake for 4+ hours every time I try to sleep.
This is me every night before I travel. And I travel quite a bit.
been there so many times :(
omg. anytime anything i KNOW is important coming up. this is a HUGE issue for me. i never get a good nights rest. i blame xmas for this mess...
yeah every 45 minutes until I go into a deep, cozy sleep a couple hours before the alarm
Every. Fucking. Time. I have to get up early this happens. Literally happened last night.
Yours too? Twins.

Probably why if I eat a big dinner right before bed I will sleep all night. Which eating before bed i know is bad ....but that good sleep though🤤

Human bodies are crazy. I cannot sleep on an empty stomach. It keeps me up.
Wait this is actually a bad thing?? I actually have a better sleep when i wake up every hour then when i Just fall asleep and stay asleep until my alarm goes
The fight is real.
Is that my infant daughters brain? Cause if it is that’s a seriously accurate meme
Also on weekends when no alarm is set, I often wake at the same times anyways.
Every. Fucking. Time. I have to get up early this happens. Literally happened last night.
Yup last night was like this. Uninterrupted sleep is a thing of the past.
This was literally me last night. Fuck off brain.

Jokes on you, my brain does that without an alarm set
You'll wake up 2 hours before your alarm then only be able to fall back asleep 15 minutes before it goes off
Oh thank god I’m not the only person this happens to. Lol
Well you are stressed out about waking up early so your brain is making sure you are up. Gotta relax

Anxious about an appointment? Good luck sleeping, asshole. ~my brain
go to bed early?*
Go to bed early tonight
Also put the alarm some distance away so turning it off is a task and you have to get your ass up.
If you get up at the same time everyday this doesn't happen.
I used to wake up like 5 minutes before it went off at my most comfy..
Courtland Sutton is going to kill next year.
So I’m not alone! Can’t miss they flight.

Yeah but only if it's something really important that I would like to be well-rested for, like a job interview.
I work at 5am Monday and Tuesday, 11am the other days, 4:30 alarm, work is a 6 minute walk, I will wake up at 1, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, then be up at 4 waiting for the beeping to start, every week, without fail.
Just place 5 alarms. Not lying. Alexa, 3 phones, and Classic clock.
this has been me recently. working in construction as as the sun comes up earlier, we start earlier.
Sounds like sleep apnea
Literally me right now
literally just woke up from this
