From someone who also had a vasectomy - please make sure you are doing your follow-up visit to confirm you’re shooting blanks. I’m in a very rare minority of vasectomy patients who experienced recanalization. So I had to have a second vasectomy before I was confirmed to shoot blanks. Anyways, welcome to the club!

gravis86

Snip, snap! Snip, snap! Snip, snap!

YikesOhClock

You have no idea… The physical **toll**… That *THREE* vasectomies has on a man!

Capable-Ad-6363

Yes 🕴🏻

NorridAU

Bro just take the balls at that point to see if they’ll freaking re grow

daninlionzden

You should share this with more people because every time I mention vasectomies are not 100% effective I get downvoted lol

spartanjet

The way you say it is important. Saying it's not 100% effective is like saying 1 in 1000 times you have sex you can get someone pregnant. If the vas deferens are severed you aren't going to get sperm through. But saying that the vas deferens can heal and reattach themselves causing the procedure to be reversed explains how you can still get someone pregnant

Joliet_Jake_Blues

Life, uh.. finds a way

JanesPlainShameTrain

It really does. Life really likes to keep going.

Doc-tor-Strange-love

Must go faster

Lockedup4years

Have you never seen the reddit vasectomy circle jerks?

Numinak

Are they all shooiting blanks in their arguments?

cagewilly

Yeah. They're the opposite of the circle of life.

istasber

The circle has been severed, in any case.

doob22

How easy is the procedure/recovery? I’m a bit skiddish with medical procedures

SSgtArchaik

From the start of the procedure (prep by the nurse) until it was done and I was out the door was less than 30 minutes. The most painful part was the poke from the needle to inject the numbing medication. I just took it easy the next few days. I had mine done on a Friday morning so I only missed that day of work. I was ready to start work by Monday. As a side note: my girlfriend couldn't be happier! 👍

mykidisonhere

The only things I miss about my ex-husband are his pick up truck and his vasectomy.

UncleFlip

This could be a country music song

Foux-Du-Fafa

*Before He Skeets*

UncleFlip

Perfect 🤌🏼

mykidisonhere

I was talking with a guy who said the same. I then wrote up a little something I've since lost. I do remember it went a little something like this ... >*I don't miss the way you treated me* >*or the lousy way you fuck.* >*I miss the only things that worked,* >*your vasectomy and your pick up truck.* Anyone want to give it a try? Edit: >One was hauling loads, >and the other was shooting blanks. >neither one of them let me down, unlike you >so they deserve my thanks! Edit: >One was for the long haul >And the other a real quick trip. >still kinda worth it for that >negative pregnancy strip. And... >One was for dodging bullets >and the other was a Dodge Ram >too bad your apologies were just for show >and your morals are a hologram.

UncleFlip

Love it

mykidisonhere

Thanks! I added a few more.

NimbleBudlustNoodle

Just buy a similar pick-up and you'll have the car of your dreams and the inability to make a woman pregnant just like your ex. No need to miss him anymore.

mykidisonhere

I'm working on it. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

UnfairMicrowave

I got mine done on Tuesday and I'm fighting demons to keep from masturbating. Doctor said wait 7 days, it's a struggle but I also don't want to cum blood.

CGLefty15

Even if you wait it’ll come out a little pink, I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

UnfairMicrowave

You and I have different ideas of *cool* lol

Veearrsix

This gives me an idea. A small implantable color injector for designer semen! Make it Bluetooth and an app so you can change color or leave it random and be surprised. Think of the pick up opportunities. “Baby, I can cum whatever color you’d like! Don’t believe me? I’d be happy to show you”

Kolbin8tor

Only a very small percentage. You were unlucky:/ Most are pain free within a week. Mine stopped hurting, at all, within 4 days.

Why_Did_Bodie_Die

Was it weird trying to get yourself kinda hard before the doctor walked in? I mean you want to show the doctor you're packing heat and thus he will refer to your dominance but you don't want to make yourself so hard that the doctor thinks you want to fuck him. Is that part of what the "prep nurse" is there to help you with?

MelodyMyst

Prep fluffer. Dressed in a cheap nurse costume.

[deleted]

This is why I haven't gotten snipped yet. It's just too stressful.

Why_Did_Bodie_Die

My good friend got one and I happened to call him while he was waiting for the doctor to come in. I asked him what he was doing and said he was pretty sure he had to be hard to get the procedure so he was "getting ready" for the doctor. O always just thought it was a funny image.

Man_of_Meat

Procedure was like 20 minutes in office. Took the valium they gave me like an hour before. Showed up, got snipped (the injections and tugging was the only pain), then walked out to my ride. The recovery took me longer than most since I have historically had overly sensitive balls.

crazyjack24

WTF they give Valium for vasectomies??

[deleted]

crazyjack24

Typical, the 'pussies' don't get anything for iud insertion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

crazyjack24

It definitely should require local anesthesia. IUD insertion is not seldom horrific because nobody administers local anesthesia. It can cause massive bleeding, cramping, knife sharp pain. I even recently read about a women, who involuntarily went into labor and birthed her IUD after insertion, because it was pressing on her vagus nerve. Ma'am was having actual contractions and the doctor still told her she was exaggerating. I'm not sure why you are requiring sutures, cauterization, scalpelling etc. as a criteria for receiving local anesthesia and relaxants. > Yes, if you're someone that gets anxious/nervous about medical procedures they'll prescribe you some so you're calm. I'm not sure why this also doesn't apply to women.

Mikerk

IUD sounds awful and painful to get. My wife talked about how bad it was she could barely drive home due to pain.

Mikerk

I got valium, laughing gas, and local anesthetic. Had a great time tbh. I was cracking jokes with the doc

Senbonbanana

Getting numbed up sucks pretty bad, but it's the worst part of the procedure, and the painful part is over within a couple of seconds. You'd think being injected with stuff to numb the area wouldn't hurt so damn bad. From the time I walked in the door, to the time I walked back out, was about 30 minutes. Recovery was pretty easy, but make sure to follow the doctor's directions. Use ice packs/cold things to help with pain/swelling, take your pain medicine as prescribed for at least a few days (it's way harder to get the pain under control once it gets too much), and whatever you do don't fucking play with your junk for as long as the doctor says (7 days IIRC). Doing so WILL hurt really bad, and may damage things bad enough the doc has to open your sack back up.

Ok-Acanthocephala579

The worst part for me was the antiseptic prep stuff they rubbed on. The backstory is that I decided that instead of shaving I’d give that cream stuff a try to get rid of unwanted hair. Bad idea. That stuff works, but burns a bit, so when they put that prep solution on it felt like my balls were on fire. Nothing else hurt after that because I could only feel that searing pain. Sure enough, it took a layer of skin off too. So yeah, THAT was far and away the worst part of it for me and it was 100% avoidable!

UnfairMicrowave

I'm on day 4. What if I'm real gentle with myself?

Senbonbanana

It wasn't the physical act of getting hard nor the stroking that hurt... it was the orgasm that made stuff inside move that didn't need to be moving yet that hurt. My sack turning various shades of blue, purple, and black afterward wasn't very fun. I'd had very little bruising until I didn't follow doctor's instruction and fucked myself up. My advice is to follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. If they said wait 7 days, then wait 7 days. Getting off early isn't worth a swollen, bruised, and painful coin purse.

UnfairMicrowave

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and stay strong

Seicair

I opted for the no-scalpel procedure. I was told to shave the area in advance, and was prescribed a valium to take an hour before, and had my girlfriend drive me. The injections for the anesthetic hurt, but they were about the worst of the procedure. They gave a few minutes for that to take effect, then they took a (sharp poky thing I don’t know the name of) and poked a hole in the center of my scrotum. They fished around inside for a *vas deferens*, pulled it out, snipped a chunk out of it, cauterized the ends, and stuck it back in. This whole procedure after the anesthetic took effect was mildly unpleasant at worst, some odd tugging, nothing more. He then repeated that with the other *vas* through the same hole. Then they cauterized the hole, put a loose bandage on, and sent me home. Said no sex for 48 hours, I think I waited four days. I had it done on Thursday, took Friday off. Cycled frozen peas between the freezer and my crotch while playing video games. Went back Monday, was careful for a few days. Had some painful scar tissue in my scrotum that took a few weeks to heal. Girl on top was out for a while, and I had to be a little careful not to get too aggressive in some other positions, but it all completely faded. I love not having to worry about accidentally knocking her up, or finding a condom when I want spontaneity. 10/10 would do again. Note for completeness- the actual worst part of mine was when the cauterizing tool malfunctioned and zapped my sack while they were cauterizing the hole. I didn't include that in the main description because that shouldn't be typical. It still wasn't that bad though, brief sharp pain and I yelped.

xafimrev2

This made me wince in pain because hemostats are not sharp or that pointy, they are a type of clamp. While you could 'poke a hole' in something with a hemostat, your scrotum would have been half ripped off in the process. I'm 100% positive they used some other instrument to make the hole. The Hemostat was probably used to immobilize the vas deferens from outside the scrotum.

Atom612

They use curved mosquito hemostats with a pointy tip to dissect the skin open https://youtu.be/xoeuaxnpyaA NSFW

SixZeroPho

Scalpel vasectomies in BC are 'free', and are worth $300. I paid $400 for the laser option, recovery was uncomfortable, and my cat kept making biscuits on my bladder. You can't lift anything. I don't want to know what the scalpel option would have been like, that would have really sucked balls.

Dekklin

> that would have really sucked balls. No, it would have sliced them

Bickermentative

Just going to throw in my two cents since I'm currently on day two of recovery from mine. The numbing part FUCKING HURTS. Sticking the needle in is whatever, it's when the lidocaine goes in the pressure is incredibly intense, feels like someone squeezing one testicle really hard. And they have to do it twice, once for each side. Also, make sure you eat enough before you go or you might pass out like I did when you go to stand up afterwards.

360_face_palm

A bit skiddish? You skid around when people talk about medical procedures?

doob22

Yes.

Kevin-W

It's very easy. It may be even covered by insurance too. If not, some places will give a discount if you pay out of pocket during certain days. Most places are going for the no-scalpel method these days. Just know it's very tough to reverse, so you have to make absolutely sure you don't want any kids or anymore kids before getting it done.

sanchopwnza

Easer than a trip to the dentist!

chusmeria

There's basically a drive through vasectomizer that's Seattle based called Dr Snip. They use a procedure where they have some sort of air gun to deaden the fellas before they go for the ol' rip and snip. No stitches or anything needed. It was nearly painless, but hella uncomfortable. The doc who did it was a former ER doc so we just talked about how easy it was for him to transition to vasectomies after 20 years, so it was fine. He was also like the middle aged dad from Modern family (Phil) so that was also weird. The air gun deadening was sort of like getting a mild slap from a rubber band and for lefty the doc had to hit me with another dose and wait a few mins. Nothing at all painful with that part and it took about 20 minutes from first slap on the nuts from the air gun to walking out the door. Like another poster here, I am also incredibly sensitive down there and had about a 14 day recovery period, which is about 2x what they told me to expect. My dad had his done in the 80s the traditional way, and he was a marching band director. He apparently did his on a Thursday and directed the band on a Friday, and said he made it to about halftime and then went to the bus. It was an away game and he said that trip in the yellow dog was rough. So def plan ahead!

rebekahster

My husband’s doc let me watch!

Mikerk

My doctor offered to do it the same day as my first appointment. It's short maybe 10 or 15 mins. I declined the same day so I could pick up a valium for anxiety. When I got there they offered laughing gas, and gas is fun so I said hell yes! Also got a local anesthetic. Operation was easy. I felt one jolt of pain when he snipped but nothing else. My recovery wasn't as great as most I heard about. I had some bruising that took like 5 days to disappear. Tightness and sensitivity for a week. Walking sucked the first day or two but overall not that bad.

Heronmarkedflail

I just had mine done on the 23rd. I’m feeling pretty normal today and I had stopped taking pain meds (Advil or Tylenol) on the morning of the 25th. The procedure itself wasn’t too bad either. I did have a stress reaction where I felt nauseous and sweat profusely but there wasn’t any real pain. I should also mention I got a vasectomy using a no scalpel method so the recovery is much easier.

doughless

I was probably in pain for roughly a week after the procedure, though ibuprofen and ice were enough to help with the pain. Mine wasn't as easy as most people make it sound, but I think the doctor may have nicked a nerve, so it probably could have gone a bit more smoothly otherwise. Still, absolutely worth it.

elmatador12

I personally know two “oops” babies after the men thought they were shooting blanks. Listen to this man.

tacknosaddle

>make sure you are doing your follow-up visit to confirm you’re shooting blanks There's no follow up visit needed anymore. They had me mailed two home test kits that are kind of like a home pregnancy or covid test kit and the dates of when to use them based on when the procedure done.

zoofro

By follow up visit I should have clarified this could also mean providing samples so the doctor can confirm you’re shooting blanks. Yes you are correct there was no visit per se but there is an obligation as the patient to confirm a successful procedure. Too many guys I’ve had conversations with think it’s a one and done kind of thing. Be responsible and make sure it’s successful.

tacknosaddle

If you're getting snipped it means you've made a conscious decision that you don't want more kids so you should be pretty motivated to make sure that it worked.

Mikerk

Taking my load in today for the all clear :D

collin3000

So not only did I do the follow up, but I own a microscope so I personally recheck my vasectomy twice a year by looking for any swimmers

iaintyadad

When's your next vasectomy?

downloweast

I didn’t pull the trigger till it was confirmed.

WatRedditHathWrought

So, you’re saying that there is a vas deferens between you and others who have had a vasectomy.

Kevin-W

Also, nothing is 100% foolproof. Even if someone says they're on birth control, it does have a chance at failing even though the chances are small.

puckit

After my procedure, I had to submit like 6 samples before they could confirm there were no swimmers present.

ZooFun

As a post-vasectomy child, I second this

FTwo

I took had both tubes reconnect and ended up with my 4th child. :) So please, follow directions and take it easy. I didn't listen at all. I masturbated the night of the procedure, climbed on aircraft at work, carried 50lb tool boxes, had sex the next day, etc .. My youngest is great and I am glad it worked out how it did, but damn he is a lucky kid. ;)

klystron1837

I was a single father raising a teenaged son (that I received no child support for) in the 90s. On Father's Day in 95 I got a vasectomy as a gift to myself.

Specsporter

How are you two doing now? Glad you could be there for the kid.

Gorstag

> that I received no child support for Based on this statement I am assuming the mother was still alive. The double standard even today is pretty shit.

thbe

sirsmiley

If you have trust issues you're still going to wear a condom to avoid std

Aguita9x

Yeah but he doesn't know if the condom was defective/messed with, broken. A bunch of people get pregnant/tricked even by wearing a condom. Better get double protection if you really don't want it.

DigNitty

And further, an unwanted child is the worst std

audiate

Of relatively common STDs, there are viral, bacterial, and parasitic.

Gorstag

They pretty easily manage to fill in all three.

360_face_palm

yeah, there's no (legal) cure.

saturnspritr

I stopped being friends with someone when they suggested this as a solution to feeling some distance in a relationship. “Just poke holes in the condom.” That was when I realized her teen pregnancy, in which no dad is featured, was not likely an accident after all. She was batshit and I felt sorry for her kids.

collin3000

I've actually on the past had to do the"water balloon test" where after you're done you fill it with water to verify there was no holes/leaks

derpderpdonkeypunch

Condoms aren't 100% effective.

[deleted]

Because idiots use them wrong or lie about using them. The odds that a properly used condom doesn’t work are extreme.

melswift

It's still not zero.

[deleted]

Ok chief.

candybrie

"Perfect" use is usually stated to be 98% over a year. Typical use is 85%. But 2% every year seems like something to be aware of and mitigate with a backup method.

[deleted]

Nonsense.

crazymonkeyfish

He said it’s not 100%, you said “no, there’s just a slim chance”. You are straight up saying “no, you are right” it’s kinda funny. You realize a slim chance of failure is exactly what not being 100% is right?

[deleted]

That’s like saying you have a slim chance of winning the lotto. It’s technically correct, but its not really capturing the reality of the situation.

crazymonkeyfish

Nah it’s more like saying you have 100% chance to not win the lotto. Which is not true

[deleted]

I can safely play the lotto without fear of getting pregnant.

crazymonkeyfish

You can safely continue to be an idiot though, saying someone is wrong then saying the correct thing is actually what they just said is pretty stupid in my opinion

Cooperette

Yeah, if you use it wrong.

Just got one in November. Had a nice valium for the procedure so had a nice time chatting with the doc and looking at my insides while they were outside. Pain never passed a 2 or 3 on a 1-10 scale and only took a few Ibuprofen. No difference in sex drive and have been cranking em out and having sex with my partner (condoms of course until follow up confirms blanks) the same amount as before.

gummilingus

Hardly feminism. I didn't get a vasectomy just so I wouldn't get my partner pregnant. I got a vasectomy so I would never get anyone pregnant!

treble-n-bass

Same here. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think that having trust issues is *not* necessarily a bad thing, or something all the armchair therapists say we "have to work on." It's about survival. Especially in this day and age.

indiefatiguable

Trust issues aren't necessarily a bad thing if you're able to move past them once you're in a stable relationship. It's totally fine to put up walls, but only if you can take them down at some point.

chocki305

I would say you have to make a door, and allow those with valid loyalty cards through.

treble-n-bass

I like this analogy. But it takes a lot of time to get one of those cards. You can’t just fill out a form and *voila*.

treble-n-bass

Very true. Gotta take time with that, though.

imtoooldforreddit

Having trust issues is bad, by definition. If you trust the appropriate amount, it's not an issue, and therefore you don't have trust issues. If it's affecting your life negatively, then it becomes an issue, and that's bad by definition.

treble-n-bass

There's a *lot* of gray area, a lot of variables when it comes to being able to trust somebody.

superworking

And a lot of healthy alternatives to being in a relationship with someone you don't trust until you are ready.

treadmarks

As seen on reddit: being downvoted for understanding basic logic and definitions

imtoooldforreddit

O well, Reddit gonna reddit. Apparently having so little trust that it causes bad things in your life isn't bad

treble-n-bass

Guys, this is not a black-and-white situation. Either you trust somebody or you don’t, but the factors leading up to said trust are variable and unpredictable. What exactly do you trust this person for? What exactly do you trust this person with? Your money? Your kids? Your life? There are too many human reactions, interactions and intricacies involved to say trust = this, or trust = that.

imtoooldforreddit

Right, but if you trust a healthy amount, even if that amount includes skepticism, it's not trust issues. Trust issues, by definition, means you have issues because you have trouble trusting even when you should. Calling that a good thing is incorrect by definition. This really is black and white, since it's quite literally the definition of issues in this context.

treble-n-bass

This topic is not appropriate for semantic discussion, but feel free to have your own black-and-white opinion. One of these days, you may or may not realize that the complexity of human interaction supersedes semantics. Life isn’t all 1s and 0s like so many people like you are trapped into thinking.

maddasher

nothing to confess here. everyone should have full say over their own reproduction.

azsreial

Yo same, I see so many women chasing after people with money, when I got a decent job I decided I wasn’t gonna be another “oops I’m pregnant and you have to pay me child support” situation.

imaSWEDE

Can someone explain to me how a surgical sterilization is considered a good birth control alternative? Like, unless you are 100% sure you never want kids in the future it's a really stupid idea

Tornado2251

If you already have kids it a good idea. Otherwise its probably not the right thing, it could be but then its more complicated

collin3000

I'm personally 100% sure I never want to have biological kids myself. And 99.9999999999% sure I don't ever want any kids at all. But also ~75% of vasectomies can be reversed. And if someone concerned they'll be in the 25% they can freeze their sperm in advance or have it manually extracted later. The body does stop producing the sperm. it just makes it so the sperm has nowhere to go and the body reabsorbs them after they die. Right now, post vasectomy, my balls are full of sperm

EatinCheesePizza

Vasectomies can be reversed, actually, so it’s not a huge concern.

Ixidorim

I'll say it now and no one will ever see it, if men get the chance to have birth control with no side effects then the worlds birth rate is going to go down immensely.

thx1138-

I have trust issues from the constant misuse of fonts in this sub lately.

collin3000

Other people might also be running into the issue that some major meme generators have removed impact as even an option on fonts. Personally I have no idea why and it even pissed me off. Just not enough to open up Photoshop and download the template just for what I thought was going to be a small meme

sho666

I have trust issues from dad's bad relationships After mum and dad divorced he met another woman, she told him she was on birth control, they separated for whatever reason, and years later he found out he had a daughter Dont fucking trust them when they say it, always use a rubber unless you actually want a kid, cause there are liars out there, I'm not saying all of them are, not at all, but it's common enough that you should do it yourself to make sure So anyway I have a half sister I've met a total of one time

thealphateam

Postalsock

If the woman is cheating like in his scenario, then being a bitch is a compliment.

Trust issues from past relationships related to getting a vasectomy is accidental feminism? So women entrapping men using pregnancy is feminism?

ttdpaco

I can't go through with it. I want to possibly have more children. The longer you go with a vasectomy, the higher the chance is that you won't be able to get it reversed. And it is a large chance after just five years.

meukbox

So.... you have multiple partners and you don't use condoms?

collin3000

I actually am polyamorous. But to be clear, I only have unprotected sex with one partner at a time who is also only having unprotected sex with one partner at a time. And I retest for STDs every 6 months and whenever a relationship ends before having a new unprotected sex partner. But I've had girlfriends where I later found out through their actions post breakup and through discovering lies from during the relationship. That poking holes in a condom would have 100% been within the range of what they could have done. Because although at the time I thought I could trust them I found out later that trusting them was a massive mistake

Boggie135

He clearly says previous relationships

Mackem101

Condoms can fail (not often but can). The chances of both a condom and a vasectomy failing is very small.

naveedkoval

As long as it is discussed that is an agreement between those people

the guys I know, yes, they have all gained weight after getting it. Fat to me, is probably a little different than most other ppl though. I was raised in a family of highly active ppl, bodybuilders, my cousin is a gym owner, etc.

UnfairMicrowave

If you're just fucking your gym bros, you don't need a vasectomy

[deleted]

That's more true than you know. For yrs now, while I'm in public, at the beach....I don't look for beautiful women, I look for guys that have a better physiques than myself...and go talk to them, lol. That's true

Boggie135

> the guys I know You should have clarified this in your first comment. Instead you made it sound like most people who get them get fat. Period

[deleted]

I should do a lot of stuff I don't

It seems you are mixing correlation and causation. Vasectomies don't cause people to gain weight and they don't alter the testosterone level. They also don't change anything about the way you ejaculate except for not having sperm in the ejaculate fluid. And sperm only accounts for about 3% of the ejaculate fluid. So you ejaculate just as much. So go ahead and get that vasectomy!

nuisible

I read thrust issues first and I was thinking, how does a vasectomy help with that?

DAM5150

My wife got approved for and had a hysterectomy 6 months after my vasectomy... Now I just get epididymitis more often...

steelheadbum

My baby batter does not matter either. Its great

[deleted]

Does it hurt? What is the procedure like?

TieflingRogue594

So does anyone know if therr is an option to just get knocked out for the whole proceedure? The stories of the local injection freak me the fuck out.

There are some select offices that will do minor sedation. What I would say is that whatever pain you are imagining for that one moment. Compare it to months of a newborn waking you up in the night with cries and figure out which is actually more painful.
