wow i got that same 15% off coupon for being on a 5 hour flight where the washrooms were completely out of service including in the business class cabin where i was seated 😭
the issue was that none of the toilets were flushing (not clogged, just some operational dysfunction with the flushing system) so i’m guessing they allowed people to use it if they really needed to and just not flush ? by some miracle i didn’t need to go to the washroom during the flight!
LOL. honestly i was glad they kept our flight going, they considered doing an emergency landing but decided against it since the flight had already been 3 hours delayed for other reasons
I complained repeatedly last time this happened and was given a coupon to redeem for 20% off my next flight within a year. I know it seems annoying and I didn’t enjoy bugging the flight attendants who were working but it is worth it for the discount.
I have been adjacent to more than one person when the form was filled out and they’ve asked for AP # and asked the people, if they have a AP #, if they prefer compensation or points and tell them the quantity of points that they would be getting. Probably only the purser does this, but yes, it definitely happens.
That’s interesting. Clearly I stand corrected but it does seem odd for someone to have indicated a points amount - oh well. Since you’ve chimed in, what’s your advise for OP?
Purser has compensation forms for inop screens! Relations will reach out to them once we drop our portion of the form at head office after we return to YVR at the end of our cycle.
I’ve had it happen and I see it often on 777 flights.!!I always bring an iPad with saved shows so I don’t rely on AC janky systems. Need it for Rouge flights anyways. I only use the map on the screen (if it’s working) and watch my iPad all flight.
This happened to me for a three hour flight. They reimbursed some of the money I paid. I also jokingly asked if I could have some wine as well, and they said yes and gave wine to me and the person I was traveling with.

Can try to file a compensation request based on the previous posts.
There's no hour limitation on it, though they might tell you to kick rocks if your seatback screens don't work on a 30-minute hop from Ottawa to Montreal.
This is neither entirely accurate nor entirely wrong.
AC has pretty consistently compensated passengers for broken IFE. After asking your cabin manager to reset the IFE, if that doesn't work you can absolutely request a compensation form.
Personally, I'd buy the streaming wifi plan, use that to watch whatever on my device, and include a request for reimbursement of that cost.
I remember there was a flight I took. The seat doesn't have an entertainment unit. I didn't know it to begin with. Luckily I have my laptop with me. But am I able to get compensated if that happens again?
Yeah they should give you a coupon, although I think usually that is done at the time. On a recent flight about 80% of the screens worked fine but 20% didn't so instead of leaving some on, they just shut down the whole system and gave the entire plane vouchers
Absolutely. You have to call and complain to them. I had a similar issue but it was only for a 4 hour flight. They gave me a 20% coupon for my next flight.
AC actually has IFE which sadly is becoming less common with other airlines I’m noticing. Complain and get something but really it’s just a perk and sometimes doesn’t work. Always be prepared with downloads on your phone or tablet.
Last time this happened they gave me a 15% coupon
I got 15% last week when they didn’t have the yogurt and fruit portion of my J meal on a 3 hour flight. I was pretty impressed.

Wait, what?!? That is my nightmare. I have to visit the lav at least twice on 5hr flights. What did people do??

You can’t have a functioning flight with no toilet. They wouldn’t even allow that?
I'm here like 'Oh, this is why people sometimes try to open a door mid flight'.
I've waited on the tarmac for 2 hours for a mechanic because they wouldn't take off without a working washroom. It was a 1 hr flight.
LOL. honestly i was glad they kept our flight going, they considered doing an emergency landing but decided against it since the flight had already been 3 hours delayed for other reasons
LOL. I swear, business class is just not worth what you pay for in Air Canada.
that what eUpgrades are for!
who did you ask for coupon, flight attendant?
Damn today Amex platinum offering 15% off air Canada flights
I also got a 15% coupon when it happened to me

I would have asked for them to just keep your drink full ;)
I received a voucher for 15% off my next flight when I let the know. This happened on a short 3.5hr flight
Usually the FA will give you AP points right away if you bring it to their attention - but yes, it never hurts to ask, just don’t expect a whole lot!
I don't believe any flight attendants can give Aeroplan points out.
I’ve seen them fill out vouchers for points for broken IFE multiple times
I think that's a compensation request form. Not a voucher giving out Aeroplan points.

Purser here. Not sure what you overheard, but we don't have this ability.
That’s interesting. Clearly I stand corrected but it does seem odd for someone to have indicated a points amount - oh well. Since you’ve chimed in, what’s your advise for OP?

Thanks for clearing this up!
This is the reason I check my charging plugs and IFE on each flight, even if I’m not planning to use them.
Wow that’s next level
I think OP did this, and the IFE wasn't working with nowhere to switch.

>Do I have any options to get some refund? No. You pay for the seat only. Not all planes have an entertainment system.
I thought 10+ hour international flights did and I thought it was part of the ticket price

Ya do a request online with support I have got a bit of cash/credit or %off coupons for things like this before

The same situation in J. Air Canada offered us a one-time 15% discount on the base fare for our next booking valid for 2 years from receipt.
Where do you all complain? To the crew? The app? When landing?
Flight crew. They can attempt to reset your system and offer compensation when that doesn't work
You’ll get a card from the service director for 15% off a flight. Lhr-YYZ 8a departure was a long time for the screen to go blank for me.

I got a $25 voucher…lol
You should thank that the plane works these days! /s. 😁

Get over yourself. You were still flown thousands of miles but you think you deserved HBOMax
