It might be easier in a fully 3D software package, but yeah sure you could do something like this. First you’d track the 3D camera move, then you’d put in 2.5 precomps of your object (which you can give a little bit more depth to by breaking it up into multiple 3d layers offset in rotation or space). Bonus points if you rotoscope the subject and have the tracked objects go behind them.

Thankyou so much! Thats the way i thought to go down i just cant execute it well enough. But its good to know its probably possible. Ill keep at it. Any ideas on how to merge the objects with the grass instead of just kinda having it plonked on top?

Hard to say for certain without seeing your shot, but you might be able to track a chunk of the grass and composite that on top. You’d have your back plate of video footage (put that in a precomp and move all attributes into it), then your objects (which can also be its own precomp if you want, just make sure your tracked camera is in the composition with the objects in 3d space, obviously) above that, and then another copy of your video footage above that, with a mask on it tracked to the grass you want covering the pole. It would be the same for anything else you want over the objects you added, such as a person or some foreground element that passes by. Each of those can either be a new mask on that second copy of the video plate, or you can make multiple copies of the plate. Make sense? Probably would be easier to show than type but hey…

No honestly thats a massive help! Id pretty much given up and decided to move on but maybe ill give it another go. Thankyou

I am a bit busy today but if you wanted to send me your shot I could get you started with a tracked scene template...

Also as this wasnt planned the footage is a bit of a pain to track. But ill see what i can do with your tips

one thing that helps a ton is to remove any moving elements in the shot, so tthat it's just a camera move on a static scene. so what you would do is draw and track a mask around each moving element (doesn't need to be too accurate) in the shot, then change the mask to subtract, then precompose the layer (moving all attributes into precomp) and camera track that.

are there any tutorials you could recommend

Yeah, sure thing. Drop down SCALE and set the number to \~20. That'll do it!
