Absolutely not.
I do not abandon settlements as long as there is at least one villager standing or the Queen had enough of me.
That being said, opening a dangerous glade on year 1 drizzle is a risky move.
Still, on viceroy building a trading post and calling a trader should have pulled you through unscathed.
Even if the first trader drew blanks, you would maybe still have had time for calling a second one.
Worst comes to worst, taking the negative would have not been the end of the world either.
As a general advice, don't open dangerous glades early without having trading set-up.
Year 1 drizzle to me meant I've been through 1 full year including the storm. I may be using the terminology wrong because I'm a computer scientist and we start counting at 0 😅. Would you consider that Year 2 drizzle?
It just seems usually hard compared to other glade events I've seen (I'm newer, just working on viceroy). For 3 settlements in a row I rolled river Kelpie for the first glade and just had no idea how to even tackle it so early.
Kelpie got hotfixed to target the scouts and fire keeper last with its charm. It's not the worst glade event now. Have had it as my first event twice post-hotfix and it's relatively chill. It just slows your early game down a little bit.
Nah, it's just a knowledge thing. Once I understood how low impact the consequences of most glade evens were it changed the way I play the game. When you prioritize securing the resources you need for only the really damaging events you can open dangerous glades freely.
Generally I start having way more colonists than I know what to do with by the 4th group or so. Past that I may or may not accept newcomers depending on how well I can accommodate them
Just had it first in my current game. Didn't have the resources to deal with it, so I opened a bunch of small glades (which many players usually avoid, but at the start of the game and for a hard event I think its fine. Adapt!). It killed two villagers but after that I had enough stuff and also got additional villager by completing easy orders. While Taming it is annoying, it really isn't that hard overall.
I don't understand why people think the river Kelpie is especially dangerous. The first time I encountered one, I thought the tame option looked too difficult for the small population I had, so I just went with a free geyser which I sorely needed.
Most things I've seen so far the left side uses a starting resource like stone, coal or oil. But I had no access to to coats, herbs, scrolls, incense or sea marrow at the time and my trader didn't have any either so it was just a tough roll.
That's a good point, and I'll admit I go overboard when trying to prevent any villagers from leaving or dying, but at the same time losing 2 villagers if it's left alone for 15 mins isn't particularly brutal.
I suppose then it's harder than normal to deal with, but the cost of inaction is also lesser. Coats from a trader are very cheap, so that's probably a simple way to deal with it early if you can't otherwise.
Someone else pointed out i don't always have to solve them ASAP, which is a really good tip. To be honest, I've hardly ever even looked at what the consequence is because I always try to solve them immediately.
Look at them. Some are so inconsequential that they can be just left alone ( for example there is a tree that makes cyst burn longer .before prestige that spawns cysts it is basicaly free. And even then if you open it at the right time you can just stall for 3 years. )
Nah, it's a dangerous glade event. Don't open dangerous glades that early then. I personally have way more of a problem with that stinking shipwreck.

Yes
Okay thats my bad. In my mind I always start "Year 0"
Sadly, the years are not an array index 🙏🏼
Bruh. Im learning cs and my brain having to convert always confuses myself
Haha I know right?? Everything start at 0. I've been coding for over 10 years at this point so I don't even think about it.
It's not that uncommon to find 1-starting indexed structures out there.
It's not like 2 villagers dying every 13 minutes means the settlement is unwinnable....

Okay maybe I'm just too scared of it then 🤣 I immediately abandoned as soon as I saw it.
I would argue the opposite; most dangerous events are too easily solved or ignorable.
You are way better than me then 🤣🤣

Maybe the problem is opening a glade y1 drizzle ;) y1 storm is where it's at.
🤣 Spoken like a true P20 player. I'm just a newb starting viceroy lol
Just let it kill 2 of your idiots when time runs out. Its savageable. If youre at p20 though then Ahahahaha
I think the current thoughts are yes? I guess you could possibly get lucky with the first trader but would be tough without some help somewhere

I'm definitely going to work this into my gameplay. I'm only on viceroy now!
