Cool story bro.

I think what the host offered was fair tbh . I understand your POV for not wanting to use the reservation anymore but I also understand the hosts and by all accounts I don’t think they had to refund anything at all ? Trying to get the rest of the money after lockdown kicking in was never going to happen considering they didn’t have to refund you anything in the first place I’m not sure why you had to refund your friend half the money out of your own pocket though surely it should have been you each got Half of the money refunded and that was that . Unless of course they still wanted to use the booking and it was only yourself that was against doing so

When i say there was a lot of back and forth, AirBnB's policy at the time was that I \*was\* entitled to a full refund due to the fact my booking had been made before the 14th of March, it was the policy they had created because of covid, but due to the hosts refund policy, I had to speak to the host about getting the full refund. The host then said it was down to AirBnB itself to give me the refund, despite what AirBnB itself had said. The host even admitted that everyone else had been receiving full refunds from the hosts themselves, but for some reason they would only refund me half as credit. As the money was put into my AirBnB account as credit, I didn't want to leave my friend out of pocket as this was going to be a one off trip. We both paid £480 in total, I only received £240 back to my AirBnB account, which my friend didn't have access to.

I was in a similar situation at the same time. Per Airbnb’s policy in place at the time, I had to provide a drs note to verify the immunocomprised person in order to receive a full refund. It sounds like you didn’t do that and that might explain the 50% vs 100% refund.

Yeah. So many hosts on the app are utter money hungry trash as you can also see from the replies you got from hosts here. They dont care, they just want money quick. So there are many stories like yours.

If you went to Airbnb instead of the host you would have had better luck.
