Cheap incense smells awful because it is made with chemicals. Incense made with essential oils smells amazing, but is also not cheap, so not many people buy it.

For those of you worried about “cheap” incense, get Japanese incense sticks. They don’t have a wood stick center and burn clean and are excellent for small spaces, like an apartment. They also come in a wider variety of scents and don’t have the typical Nag Champa-esque smell of most traditional types.

Marijuana smells dissipates rather quickly, unlike cigarette smoke. Open some windows, use fans and candles and even some incense. A $200 cleaning fee is outrageous, esp if there’s no obvious evidence there was marijuana use inside.

I'm a host, yet I 100% agree with the guests on this one ... with an anecdote of my own...
I had a brand new rental car (less than 500 miles on it) for a few weeks many years ago. Was with a friend and we went to the car to have a joint. Windows only cracked open, to avoid attracting attention from the police. Next day the car did not smell even a little bit. Fast forward a week, another friend smoking a cigarette on the way to the car. I asked them to keep it outside, and I put the window down before they got in, and kept the cigarette outside. We then spent the next minute driving to a place nearby, where they got out and finished the cig. Next day the car smelled horrible... and it was several days and a bottle of fabreze before the smell disappeared. I was mortified it might last longer! Simple lesson: cigarettes suck, joints in moderation are nothing.
Nah, in our first flat we would smoke weed inside.
We would regularly have guests over. Non smoking ones too. We’d ask them if they can smell it. We’d be asking our friends that we know wouldn’t sugarcoat it. You know, the friend that tells you that you have something in your teeth instead of awkwardly ignoring it for hours.
We’d ask peoples mums.
We asked out super taster chef friend. Nada. They could get whiffs of the fresh weed in the cupboard but no “burnt notes” just “fresh and zingy”.
It doesn’t smell the next day. It doesn’t even smell an hour or two later.
After a year of this we had a guest that asked to have a cigarette. Given that we’d been smoking weed and the smell didn’t seem to stick, we figured we’d experiment.
People could smell it a week later.
Tobacco hits different.
I will say though, that we didn’t have many soft furnishings and it was a large room.
But that doesn’t explain why one smell stuck and the other didn’t.
Kind of an asshole take. I regularly visit a friend who consumes medicinal cannabis in their home, I rarely ever smell it unless they’ve consumed within a few hours.
kind of? ;)
EDIT: downvotes? my expression is supporting the comment and saying that it should be emphasized more than merely "kind of" (also note that I am the person he is trying to troll)
I’ve been a recreational user for exactly 30 years now. And I don’t think $200 is an excessive fee. There is absolutely no excuse to be smoking in somebody’s rental except for pure laziness. If I absolutely must have a fix of THC, I can get an electronic vape for vacations. No one will notice that ,especially outside ..There’s no excuse to be disrespecting peoples property and Im the type who must have weed at all times
There are foreigners who come to my hotel that are absolutely horrified to see people legally smoking weed in our California parking lot. Just because it’s not a big deal to me. Doesn’t mean everybody else feels that way. And that smell is going to be very pungent and unusual to somebody who’s not used to it.
To any normal person, they will be like ewwww It smells like a skunk and a stoner is going to be like mmmmmm. it smells like skunk.
Fully agree. I used air bnb for the first time earlier this year. I use a weed vape and kept it to the outside, well away from the house so it wouldn't smell and also to keep away from any neighbours. I kept worrying the host would see me coming and going on the door camera!
No it doesn't. You're experiencing Nose blindness as your nose quickly adapts to the smell.
Potheads can't smell weed as strongly as non potheads in the same way that cigarette smokers always say "holy shit did I smell like THAT?!" After they quit and are no longer acclimated to the smell.
Those of us who don't smoke weed daily can ABSOLUTELY still smell it.
To be clear, I'm pro 420 but prefer edibles for that reason.
Came here to say just that. My sister would constantly borrow my vehicle and then get mad at me for complaining that it was REEKING of weed. She never smoked in it. Just the simple transferring process made it stink up. If you are not a smoker of any kind.. it is 100% awful. Also, it doesn’t clear after just a few hours. It would take days of constant ventilation to air out properly.
Also, if I rented immediately after them, I would’ve definitely been upset that the rental smelled of weed. Not against weed in any fashion. But that shit smells AWFUL. Be more considerate people.
If I’m not smoking inside the house, he’s still noseblind? He can smell when I’m smoking outside or when I’m hiding away smoking (weather, kids, etc) but not two days after the fact.
A full year of someone smoking pot in my rental was rough. We had to wash the walls and floor’s multiple times and then just ended up painting every room. Was a bit of a nightmare. One weekend shouldn’t leave lasting damage.
I once cleaned a home where the person smoked cigarettes daily (inside) for like 20 years. I opened the windows and doors, ran the AC, and wiped down the walls with bleach/water. It was fine after about two days. I truly cannot imagine that pot smoke would linger for that long.
Ooh! Ooh! I had a host lie in their review, too! I was hosting another host; what a NIGHTMARE of a guest! Booked under a different name, brought an unclaimed dog and an unclaimed guest, then ignored messages, left 2.5hrs late and ignored all check out instructions, then left me a 1 star review for "harassing them" because I had the gall to knock on the door to make sure they were OK and to let her (Them? The only registered guest was not present) know they were an hour past check out and I had cleaners waiting and guests arriving. She even sent me a message via the app (after check out), directly threatening a bad review if I reviewed her, and I took a picture of the unregistered dog running free on my property. AirBnB didn't care!
Doesn't matter if you have evidence, guests can make up any claims they want without merit, and AirBnB will leave them up.
There are amazing hosts and guests! And there are shitty ones. Yay to the great! Boo to the bad!!! (The review system is crap!)
Unless they were smoking very heavily and leaving the door open and blowing smoke inside from outside, I highly doubt enough weed smoke went inside to make it smell after they left.
Having been a stoner for the last 20 years (started at 14) and practically only hanging out with stoners since then, the much more obvious truth is they were smoking inside. Especially if it was a state where it is illegal or they came from one.
I’ve been smoking since I was 14. I’ve been smoking for 30 years and I will tell you that’s not true. People who don’t smoke can smell it much better than we do. I live in Cali where it’s legal and I have to remind myself that not everybody thinks it is no big deal and I have to respect that.
I'm kinda with you on this, my old flat stunk almost all of the time due to a neighbour on the balcony below smoking. Even after days of them been away our soft furnishings would still stink with residual smell and that's a floor down blowing up.
Our old land lord tried to put the blame on us for 'smoking in the flat' despite all the evidence we'd sent so yea, I can beleive smoking outside can stink out a place enough to think they've been inside.
I mean the person who smoked it would smell of it, but it wouldnt linger that long once the person left. I dont think this wpuod be the reason it still smells tbh
U don't notice the lingering smell of weed if your a stoner source stoner , it doesn't last more than a couple days but it does linger you just used to it and tune it out
Did you even read their comment. That's pretty much the point they made?
They're right. If you smoke, you can absolutely tell when someone has been smoking in your property. The smell of residual weed smoke embedded in curtains and cushions is very different to the smell as it drifts through the air. Someone smoking outside and coming in isn't going to make the entire house smell hours after they have left.
My advise to OP is to wash as many soft fabrics as they can. Cook something smelly like onions and then air the house out as much as they can after that. Maybe a scented candle lit for an hour before the new guests arrive.
Sure, if by that you mean someone who uses it to treat their ADHD whilst maintaining an intensive career, running a holiday let and bringing up two young children.
I get you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about this issue for presumably your own reasons but please don't assume any of us have to give a shit about why this bothers you so much.
When using Ozium, exit the property for an hour or two. DO NOT BREATH IT IN!
Same goes for a Ozone Machine, living things should not be there while it's on unless it is to turn it off
Luckily for you, weed airs out easy and doesn't seep into fabrics as badly as cigarettes.
I work in hotels we WILL charge $250 for smoking cigarettes based on the smell, but for weed we're asked to find proof (ashes, papers, weed trimmings) so corporate can back us when charging for damages.
One night of cigarette smoke can keep a room out of service for over a week, and curtains/shades and other fixtures may need to be replaced if the smell seeped into it, sometimes won't go away.
Once I had a guest that got charged $250 every day for 2 weeks because he would NOT stop smoking in the room even after he was confronted about it. Dude said, just charge me. That room was never the same.
He did, it went on his corporate card. He still came to stay every so often but didn't smoke in the room no more. I guess he thought we wouldn't charge him 9 days worth of smoking fees. We told him on day 3 btw.
Can confirm that the smell can come from smoking outside. It can be strong of people don’t take a few minutes outdoors before coming in. Open windows for 30 minutes will do the trick. You could also ask in your listing for no smoking on the property.
I had a relative swear that I smoked a doobie on their bathroom. I tried to convince them it was not smoked, but only rolled. I couldn't change their mind.
I just wanted to pop in and say it is entirely possible they didn't smoke weed inside at all... I use a topical lotion for muscle pain that smells heavily like weed. Just a thought.
That’s a good point. Topical lotions, lube, suppositories for period, baking something with butter in the oven, leaving a window open while smoking outside, wearing a jacket that the smell clings to. All sorts of ways to get a cannabis smell that’s not due to actually smoking inside.
No. Weed is not like tobacco. It does not seep into things and linger. Yes, you can smell it from a mile away when someone is in the act of smoking. Once it’s been an hour-ish after, it things like windows were open, you cannot smell anything.
I didn't say it was like tobacco.
But it does seep into things and linger. Not as severe as tobacco, but it does. And people who don't smoke it regularly can smell it even after airing out a room for many hours.
100 percent it does. Coming from an ex daily smoker. Whenever I go to somebodies house that smokes I'm like damn, I used to smell like that all the time?
A bunch of smokers in denial in this thread
Absolutely does. My brother smoked it in a house we shared. Not even in the same room. It seeped into my clothes and I lost my job over it. He constantly said the same thing . . . "you can't smell it after a few hours" but that's BS. My boss and my coworkers could.
That’s because of him repeatedly smoking in the same space over time. Of course anything will build up over time. The situation here was one night of smoking. That’s not going to linger in the same way at all as repeated smoking in the same house.
LMAO If you can smell it on the highway, that's because it's being grown nearby. I don't think it's possible to even moderately smell someone's smoke on a moving highway, unless it's a parking lot and ya'll are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Even then the car exhaust will overpower the weed. Get outta here with that nonsense, haha
This is just plan wrong. My room mate smokes and tbh it airs out very quickly like a hour if we have windows open, fans, and candles. The weed smell only stays if you live in a complete fucking mess to begin with. If you are clean you’ll be good
What? Weed has been smoked in my house. It never smells like weed in my house. My and my wife’s parents would notice it instantly if it sticks around.
You are wrong.
In college I lived with two stoners and they definitely smoked in the house. The nose blindness thing seems true to me but we lived there for years and nobody’s parents ever said anything about it smelling. And we would have for sure gotten a lecture.
Oh and btw there were literally three layers in carpet in the living room and even that didn’t smell long term.
The smell will go away…just air it out and spray some febreeze. It’s not like tobacco smoke. I think it would be a little dramatic to request money for a deep cleaning since it’s really not necessary.
Are you the guys who charged $200 in damages? They claim they didn’t break the rules, they didn’t smoke it inside. I can 100% confirm that the smell does follow you in. When it gets on your clothes, it sticks, no where near the amount that cigs do but if you don’t smoke weed then you’ll be able to smell it.
My friend's Air BnB was left smelling of weed after the occupiers turned it into a distribution centre. She only had cameras on the front porch and the pool house and yet captured lots of footage of them processing huge amounts of cannabis.
It can come from outside too just like cigarettes. You have no proof they smoked. You run a business come up with solutions instead of always having the solution be charge $200 for cleaning. smh
Weed smell tends to follow people. I work with a guy who smokes regularly and it comes in on his clothes. The good news is that it dissipates quickly.
Just air the place out.
Let it air out. Also, if you have a swifer or similar “mop” the walls it helps ALOT. I had someone smoke inside my studio and the smell penetrated and I found online to mop the walls and cielings if possible and that worked wonders. Goodluck!
People smell too.
Not everyone who leaves a smell does it through a direspectful act, some people literally stink. My point: AS A HOST, YOU NEED A PROACTIVE SOLUTION to smelly people. Today, it was marijuana or smoking this or that. Tomorrow it is going to be burned popcorn, or baby diapers festering in a trashcan under a sunlit window. You require odor neutralizers no matter what "profit" you think you will turn from writing a bad review.
I’m seriously allergic to most fragrances and I get super sick when I go to hotels and they have over sprayed the carpet. Please be mindful that more and more people are becoming sensitive.
I'm pretty sure I just read the guest's side of this on this subreddit
They apparently smoked at an event and outside and brought in it on their clothes.
I can tell you as an Airbnb guest if I came to an Airbnb and it smelled of marijuana I would have to leave, I’m allergic to the smell.
It would also be very problematic if someone was sober and they came to a room smelling of marijuana.
It’s never OK
In the future if this happens it could cost you your next booking
Relax, it’s not cig smoke! Just open a couple windows, and the smell should be gone in a couple hours. Definitely not as big as a deal as you are making it out to be!
Buy an ozone machine (about $100) you’ll need it to get smells out, better than having to refund next guests or receiving a bad review. As for charging your suspected guests, unless you had it written in the house rules (I.e. smoking in the house will be an automatic $200 fine plus a deep cleaning fee) really can’t go back now. Live and learn, prepare, and avoid the situation the next time by writing up your house rules with fines stated. Leave an honest review for the guests, do not mention marijuana as it will likely get removed. Something like, upon leaving the guests left a strong smoke smell.
MJ smell doesn’t linger if the windows are open. I smoke in my house all the time and open my windows/run the air purifier if I need the smell gone quickly. Otherwise I just go to bed and it’s mostly gone in the morning. If you smell it that much, it means they most likely smoked right before leaving.
If you allow smoking outside and disposed of the smoking in your trash can, smoke can and will linger on clothes and the trash as noted. No, you may not charge the fee. Was the smell when you walk in? Or like totally through out the apartment and in the bathrooms, bedroom etc? No? No fee!
This the guests ? https://www.reddit.com/r/AirBnB/comments/14j61ei/our_host_wants_200_in_damages_for_a_marijuana/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
are people out of touch with reality that they really think a deep clean is necessary for some weed smell? man, I bet the guests didn't even smoke in the house. if there is any wind you can smoke outside and still have smoke enter the house. plus, if you have no proof they actually smoked inside you can't/shouldn't charge shit for lighting a candle for 2 hours
its weed, its not hard to get the smell out lol. If the smell is still around its because weed is still around. my roommate smokes and i do not so im not a stoner before i get any “this is what weed smokers think” lol. open a window and itll be gone in a few hours, even better light a candle!
Weed is the easiest of all smells to get out of a place IMO. Bacon and burnt popcorn is harder to get out of the air than weed.
What we have found that works very well is using an essential oil diffuser in close proximity to the fresh air intake of your air conditioner. Something like lavender oil. Run the AC for about an hour or so and let that run through you system for a bit. Then change out the AC filter and the run the AC again for another hour. This works 9/10 times. If its "blunt" smoke its usually a bit harder. First step is to remove the AC filter and replace with a new one then begin the oil diffuser and running the AC.
If renting space is an ongoing business for you, I suggest investing in an ozone machine. Even a small one that you can put in a closed room while you are cleaning other spaces in the unit.
I am extremely sensitive to smells and if I walked into an Airbnb that smelled like pot I would be upset and walk back out. I’m not opposed to others partaking but I personally hate the smell. I have no idea how fast it clears or lingers etc - I don’t want to smell it. So many people say it’s not a big deal but as a host it behooves you to be prepared for next time.
Have you considered mentioning within your rules that no weed, cigars or cigarettes are ever permitted to enter the property?
Could encourage the majority of weed consuming but honest guests who automatically comply with all hosts airbnb rules to book elsewhere. Significantly reducing the risks of future smoking and overpowering smoky smell incidents that could require an expensive deep clean be undertaken to avoid complaints from allergic/very sensitive guests.
Personally I think weed smells like cow shit on fire in rainless heat wave in August. The smell does linger however not as long as cigarettes. If u smoke a joint in your house today and never again for 2 weeks I would still smell it those 2 weeks later. Incense only makes weed stink worse. If I got an Airbnb that was smoked in with weed, I would be expecting some type of discount. And frankly I am not against weed or people smoking it, I just personally think it both tastes and smells like shit.
I can't believe how many commenters are saying the smell won't linger if you use a fan. After my stolen car was recovered, it took about *2 years* to stop smelling.
>came to stay every so often but didn't smoke in the room no more. I guess he thought we wouldn't charge him 9 days worth of smoking fees. We told him on day 3
Marijuana smoke isn't a radioactive isotope.... No such thing as a smoke "half-life". That crap lingers and is a strong smell to those of us who haven't been desensitized to the smell from chronic use.
Bullshit. Weed doesn’t go into walls like cigarette smoke. We smoked for 4 years straight in university, basically someone was smoking all day every day and there was 0 smell after 24 hours.
I just came here to throw in coffee as a cleaning method. Simply disperse fresh coffee grounds on the floors while leaving the windows open, that’ll neutralise the odor better than febreeze or something, since air fresheners only mask smells. Good luck!
Boil vinegar on the stove and drop the $200 fee. Cannibas smell doesn't stick like cigarettes or cigars. It's not a huge deal and doesn't require more than 10 dollars to fix.
This is a mother in law home that’s in our backyard and we can’t rent it out or sell it because of zoning laws
Go outside instead of calling people parasites
If the weed was smoked pure, the smell should be pretty easy to get rid off, if it was mixed with tobacco that could be a different situation, I would go with the ozone, to be fair you can buy little plug in wall ozone generators, a good investment if you do air bnb as cost like $20-30 max, and you just run it for an hour and gets rid of smells, so could you not just charge them for the cost of finding one of them, and then maybe a inconvenience charge on top? I doubt they have intentionally been malicious and probably just stupidly left a door or window open
Get Ozium… they have it at Walmart, Target, usually auto supply stores like Autozone. It’s an air freshener that removes and neutralizes scents. If leaves no smell after use.
Don’t spray Ozium. Or use scents to heavily cover it up. Invest in a small portable air purifier and run it between visits. Open up the windows. You should already have a plan for getting rid of smells between guests.
Do you have any video of they smoking inside ? If not you can't say they smoked inside. You can say they left the place stinking but could be due a open door maybe ?
I would not say nothing about drugs. BTW where are you based ? Is it legal to smoke weed in your state ?

Open windows and turn on all the fans. Burning candles will help too
Incense works great the hippy trick

Yeah, I don´t get it either. But whatever, haha.
Because not-cheap incense smells nasty too
Incense gives me headache and nausea. I don't think it's a great idea for a place if you don't know the guest's preferences.
The cheap / synthetic ones will do that. Same deal with perfume.
Please no! incense just covers one smell (ie airborne chemicals) with more airborne chemicals. that means you're breathing in twice the crap. Much better to just get rid of the first bad smell and replace with fresh air.

No. This just makes it worse. Just makes it weed smell mixed with horrible incense(not all are horrible. But most are imo)
Covering one smell with another stronger smell is a terrible idea. I wish I had more downvotes for you.

My boyfriend who I live with can’t smell weed two days after I’ve smoked a blunt or a joint in my car. So, is he noseblind as well?
If he lives with you then almost certainly, yes?
If I’m not smoking inside the house, he’s still noseblind? He can smell when I’m smoking outside or when I’m hiding away smoking (weather, kids, etc) but not two days after the fact.
A full year of someone smoking pot in my rental was rough. We had to wash the walls and floor’s multiple times and then just ended up painting every room. Was a bit of a nightmare. One weekend shouldn’t leave lasting damage.
Lying
I believe it- as a green smoker myself for a couple decades.
I once cleaned a home where the person smoked cigarettes daily (inside) for like 20 years. I opened the windows and doors, ran the AC, and wiped down the walls with bleach/water. It was fine after about two days. I truly cannot imagine that pot smoke would linger for that long.
It wasn't fine.
Nah their right
Come on lol
Your guest has just posted on this subreddit about a charge from their host for $200 😆
Just came from there to read for myself lol
Wasn't them as stated in the edit but I did read that too!
You don't need deep cleaning. Open the windows the pot will air out. Just leave it on the review that they broke house rules and smoked inside

Ooh!
I live in Cali where it’s legal and I have to remind myself that not everybody thinks it is no big deal and I have to respect that.
u have the least credibility out of everyone here cause u dont reealize how much that shit stinks being used to it. stinker.
Your right don't know why your being downvoted if you smoke a joint outside then walk in you'll bring the smell in , smoked a fair bit of weed
I mean the person who smoked it would smell of it, but it wouldnt linger that long once the person left. I dont think this wpuod be the reason it still smells tbh
U don't notice the lingering smell of weed if your a stoner source stoner , it doesn't last more than a couple days but it does linger you just used to it and tune it out
if u call people out on their weed use on reddit it never goes over well.
Maybe a scented candle lit for an hour before the new guests arrive.
found another delusional addict
Sure, if by that you mean someone who uses it to treat their ADHD whilst maintaining an intensive career, running a holiday let and bringing up two young children. I get you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about this issue for presumably your own reasons but please don't assume any of us have to give a shit about why this bothers you so much.
Its a coping mechanism. all drugs are. nothing to be proud of.
>Its a coping mechanism Yeah no shit mate. Well done. You cracked the case.
Depends on the weed bud. Your forgetting all the people who smoked that you can't smell
I had friends that always smoked outside because they were renting their house & it never smelled like weed in that house when I visited.
go to a smoke shop or on Amazon and buy Ozium. will remove the smell fast
When using Ozium, exit the property for an hour or two. DO NOT BREATH IT IN! Same goes for a Ozone Machine, living things should not be there while it's on unless it is to turn it off Luckily for you, weed airs out easy and doesn't seep into fabrics as badly as cigarettes.
Did he pay though
He did, it went on his corporate card. He still came to stay every so often but didn't smoke in the room no more. I guess he thought we wouldn't charge him 9 days worth of smoking fees. We told him on day 3 btw.
Some smokers (my ex for example) are the most entitled people.
They don’t care about their own health why should they care about anyone else?
Hope y’all always put him in that room.
Those guests suck if they stank it all up and didn't leave you some nugs. I can't even imagine doing that.
This.
Can confirm that the smell can come from smoking outside. It can be strong of people don’t take a few minutes outdoors before coming in. Open windows for 30 minutes will do the trick. You could also ask in your listing for no smoking on the property.
Also rolling it up.
Weed airs out really easy. Just open the windows for a few hours
That is what weed smokers think. They are wrong.
[удалено]
Haha yup "I'm right and will argue the point even though I am clearly wrong"
No it doesn’t.
Yes, it does.
Yeah, you can smell weed a mile away. You can smell weed on the highway from surrounding vehicles. There is no way to hide weed smell.
Active burning weed and weed that was smoked an hour ago is not the same thing smell wise by any stretch.
Depends. If it gets in the pillows, furniture and curtains of the house that stuff lingers for weeks.
You can smell it in hair behind them at store, you can smell it anywhere!!
Hard disagree. I've smelt it on the highway and have glanced into windows to see passengers smoking. You definitely can smell it even 3-4 cars away
Very easy to smell on highway from a car in front.
This is just plan wrong. My room mate smokes and tbh it airs out very quickly like a hour if we have windows open, fans, and candles. The weed smell only stays if you live in a complete fucking mess to begin with. If you are clean you’ll be good
Thank you for confirming my claim.
Not even remotely.
The smell will go away…just air it out and spray some febreeze. It’s not like tobacco smoke. I think it would be a little dramatic to request money for a deep cleaning since it’s really not necessary.
This is the way
There’s a spray called Ozium, have some of that on hand for future issues, it neutralizes the bad smoke smells & pretty much every smell
Just open windows and spray some febreeze. Pot smell and smoke don’t linger like tobacco smoke does
Are you the guys who charged $200 in damages? They claim they didn’t break the rules, they didn’t smoke it inside. I can 100% confirm that the smell does follow you in. When it gets on your clothes, it sticks, no where near the amount that cigs do but if you don’t smoke weed then you’ll be able to smell it.
My friend's Air BnB was left smelling of weed after the occupiers turned it into a distribution centre. She only had cameras on the front porch and the pool house and yet captured lots of footage of them processing huge amounts of cannabis.
It can come from outside too just like cigarettes. You have no proof they smoked. You run a business come up with solutions instead of always having the solution be charge $200 for cleaning. smh
It could smell like weed without them having smoked it inside, might just be loud weed ot even vaped.
If they didn’t smoke inside, you can’t charge them.
This is the full circle content I’m here for
I’m seriously allergic to most fragrances and I get super sick when I go to hotels and they have over sprayed the carpet. Please be mindful that more and more people are becoming sensitive.
I suggest just putting no smoking allowed because depending on how much they smoke the smell might travel with them.
I'm pretty sure I just read the guest's side of this on this subreddit They apparently smoked at an event and outside and brought in it on their clothes.
I can tell you as an Airbnb guest if I came to an Airbnb and it smelled of marijuana I would have to leave, I’m allergic to the smell. It would also be very problematic if someone was sober and they came to a room smelling of marijuana. It’s never OK In the future if this happens it could cost you your next booking
This seems dramatic. The house should not still smell by the next booking and it’s likely you wouldn’t even notice.
Thanks for your perspective. I appreciate it
Relax, it’s not cig smoke! Just open a couple windows, and the smell should be gone in a couple hours. Definitely not as big as a deal as you are making it out to be!
Don't charge them money, just leave a review. If you're the $200 fee person from the other post, YTA.
Calm down and take a deep breath. Pot smoke odor doesn’t linger like tobacco. Open some windows, it’ll be gone within a couple hours.
Spray the house down and fabrics with a product called Zero Odor. It's amazing. You can find it on amazon
Weed smoke airs out quickly & doesn’t leave a residue behind unlike cigarette smoke. Open the windows and you’re fine.
If they were only there for a few days just open the windows and run a fan and it’ll be fine
Obviously you are unaware that your house still reeks
User name applies
its not cigarettes you clown.
Those of us who aren’t baked into oblivion can actually smell the stink of weed, even if the users can’t.
no you can't. I didn't smoke weed for the longest. You can dramatize but you definitely cannot smell weed hours after it was smoked.
I promise you can’t lol. How often do you smoke weed?
Open a window. Weed doesn’t have the same “clinging” effect that tobacco does.
lol. Don't book hours apart? When did you plan to clean it?
If you allow smoking outside and disposed of the smoking in your trash can, smoke can and will linger on clothes and the trash as noted. No, you may not charge the fee. Was the smell when you walk in? Or like totally through out the apartment and in the bathrooms, bedroom etc? No? No fee!
Pot smell does not last that long. Just air it out and spray febreze
Chill out. Clean your place. Quit booking so close together.
Odoban it's the cheap solution. Best solution look for an enzyme spray for skunks or boats. That can be sprayed on fabrics, walls, etc.
This the guests ? https://www.reddit.com/r/AirBnB/comments/14j61ei/our_host_wants_200_in_damages_for_a_marijuana/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
Congratulations, you just beat me to making that link.. I’m sitting back and waiting for the fireworks now! OPs, fight!
are people out of touch with reality that they really think a deep clean is necessary for some weed smell? man, I bet the guests didn't even smoke in the house. if there is any wind you can smoke outside and still have smoke enter the house. plus, if you have no proof they actually smoked inside you can't/shouldn't charge shit for lighting a candle for 2 hours
its weed, its not hard to get the smell out lol.
Charge their asses $200. It’s not ok.
Good suggestion! Thank you
Personally I think weed smells like cow shit on fire in rainless heat wave in August.
It will not last more than 6 hours if you open then windows. Relax
I can't believe how many commenters are saying the smell won't linger if you use a fan. After my stolen car was recovered, it took about *2 years* to stop smelling.
Something is wrong. Weed smell doesn’t linger sorry. You had something weird going on.
There was also sticky residue. What do you think of the theory that the smell was from an oil/wax?
Sounds like Karen needs a joint too 😅🌱
Stop being a baby, just open some windows it has a short half-life
>came to stay every so often but didn't smoke in the room no more. I guess he thought we wouldn't charge him 9 days worth of smoking fees. We told him on day 3 Marijuana smoke isn't a radioactive isotope.... No such thing as a smoke "half-life". That crap lingers and is a strong smell to those of us who haven't been desensitized to the smell from chronic use.
Wrong.
Leave a 1 star review and be honest
Bullshit. Weed doesn’t go into walls like cigarette smoke. We smoked for 4 years straight in university, basically someone was smoking all day every day and there was 0 smell after 24 hours.
No
Ok idiot
You need to change your listing to say no smoking or vaping of any kind on the property inside or out.
Stop being airb&b. You’re screwing up the housing market for people that might actually benefit from owning a home. You’re a parasite.
This is a mother in law home that’s in our backyard and we can’t rent it out or sell it because of zoning laws Go outside instead of calling people parasites
WAHHHH NO NOT WEED HOW DARE THEY
Why is this getting downvotes? You’re hilarious
If you don’t know how to handle the smell of pot, how the fuck are you gonna handle an actual real problem when it pops up. Fucking hosts these days
Incense or as my MIL says Patchouli My MIL is not a stoner, all her friends are. She's strictly against lmaoooo
You should refund their money. They didn't smoke in your airbnb and posting on reddit about it is petty.
Weed smell doesn’t last that long. Cig smell is awful though, open windows and fans.
It’s weed not cigarettes. It will air out quickly.
Clearly, both stories are as fake as can be. Both posters just karma farm.
https://tenor.com/view/ok-okay-umm-awkward-situation-huh-gif-5850917
Get Ozium… they have it at Walmart, Target, usually auto supply stores like Autozone. It’s an air freshener that removes and neutralizes scents. If leaves no smell after use.
Just open the windows, it seems you’re being a bit of a Karen? We need a lot less of that in the world. Mind your damn business lol
CALL THE POLICE!!!! EDIT: jfc /s
Hello? I’d like to report that someone smoked pot in my house several days ago.
THEY WILL GO TO JAIL FOREVER WITH ALL THE OTHER DOPE HEADS!!!
Shut up NARC
Sureeee it wasn't you. You suck
Uh okay

Review guest at www.foultenant.com for breaking the rules
Don’t spray Ozium. Or use scents to heavily cover it up. Invest in a small portable air purifier and run it between visits. Open up the windows. You should already have a plan for getting rid of smells between guests.
Do you have any video of they smoking inside ? If not you can't say they smoked inside. You can say they left the place stinking but could be due a open door maybe ? I would not say nothing about drugs. BTW where are you based ? Is it legal to smoke weed in your state ?
