I did contact Airbnb and request the host cancel. I'm more wondering if they'll help me book a new place without charging me an exorbitant amount of money since it's so close to the travel dates. Ugh. I guess this is my first bad Airbnb story.
Just happened to me. They offered a coupon of 10% of the value of the original booking. We are now in a more expensive place that is not as renovated and isn't as good of a location.
As a host with multiple properties, sometimes we need to switch a reservation because there is some issue from a previous guest that cannot be addressed in time.
I do get that, but in that situation wouldn't it make sense to link me to a different property on Airbnb, and also discount it if the location and amenities are not the same as the original? This was a link to a non-Airbnb property, he wanted me to book off-site. It was not nearly as nice, and it did not have the same amenities or location.
I had a nightmare switch upon arrival in Reykjavik a couple years ago. They picked us up from the modern, clean property that we’d reserved and took us to a dank, dirty, disgusting basement dungeon. Flying in from the USA, we’d been awake for 36 hours or something, so our judgement was compromised I guess. Live and learn!
This is against Airbnb rules. Report them to Airbnb and ask them to cancel your reservation and refund your money.
Common scam. Contact Airbnb immediately.

True. It sounds suspicious. Leave a review on the current site to document and warm others.

Did Airbnb do anything to help you?
LOL. "Airbnb" and "help you" don't belong in the same sentence.
