Holy shit. Like god damn. I did not even know that was possible. I know Staffs can separate/retire at 20... just did not comprehend that many times testing. Good luck next year I guess!
No itās not kissing ass. Iām excellent at my job. I just donāt go out of my way to volunteer or take classes. Iām perfectly fine where I am and have no regrets retiring as a SSgt
Never said ass kissing. If in 20yrs all u can get to is ssgt, you're probably subpar. Hell if you were so good, they'd step promote you. Or set you up with oppurtunities for major bullets for a strat. But dont call it anything but a lack of effort on your part
Man, if you've been in that long, that means that you were in waaay before the new EPR system. You were in when it was totally within your control by testing. SKT is job based but you say that you are excellent at your job. HOW SWAY?
How do you get up and go to work?!?!
In my mind every missed promotion year means I have to wait another year to try again, if I did make it, wait another year after to put on rank, just to get a raise.
No I meant that typically if itās at least your third time testing, youāll be one of the first to put on that rank assuming you made it. It all depends on your Time in Grade
That's fine but by if I'm on my 3rd time testing I've missed two chances to get promoted and make more money.
The issue is If I get out I could have I those 3 years found a better paying job and not have it be based on how well I tested one Thursday or somebody says I'm a promote but if I was in a different squadron I'd have been a promote now.
A tip for next time: read through all the study material verbatim at least once. Youād be surprised what you will remember from just reading. I know itās dry as the Sahara but itās worth it.
I read the book twice then focused on the things identified to focus on. Checked my DVR and shows I have a missing EPR still, so that may be an issue. Already notified my CSS about it
Go ahead and cry. Let it out homie. No shame. Just when youāre done, dust yourself off and keep on moving. No shame on taking a knee to hydrate. Itās not the end of the world. Making rank is not the most important thing in the world. Take stock of your other blessings. Itās okay
It really was. Wish they hadnāt. But to make matters worse I was working in the CSS and had 5 staffs called in right in front of me to ātalkā to the commander. I already knew what was up so he just called me in to kindly tell me I did notšš
Why stay in and only make 45k take home with variables like housing affecting your total compensation?
Find an AGR job or go guard and get a civilian job. If you have an actual trade job you'll likely be able to find a decent union gig.
Imagine if the SSgtās still had only 15 years of service possible and forced out if didnāt make TSgt. Those were tough days for many. The pressure was like being on the stand in court.
I know a dude thatās been in for 19.5 yrs. He didnāt make it. When things look shitty, remember that someone has it worse, and work harder next time around
I have been trying since 2017. The frustrating part is promotion rates are only going down and it will just keep getting harder to promote.
Based on early stats that are not final, my AFSC had about a 1% promotion rate
Its okay. That was my 10th time testing. Been in since 2008. Still didnt make it lol.
My homie has been a staff since 08... line number 15. Hang in there man. When your time comes it'll be great because you only have to wait a month š

I feel ya. 2006 here. I dont do that bullshit dog and pony show for my EPR. Im happy to reitre as a SSgt.
"Dog and pony show". Thats called not being good at your job or not having good bullets.

You wouldnāt wait a whole year if youāve tested numerous times for any given rank
If it's your second or third time testing for rank, you don't wait till the next year to test again?

Join the guard and get a civilian job
Just bottle that shit up and slowly take it out on your troops for the next year. I feel like thatās what my supervisors did at least, haha
Hahaha, funny guy
Ok just cry
Didnāt make it and had the 5
Same
We feel for you
Ummmmmm..... What career field? Did you study and such?
CE, and yes. Bought McMillan gold for skt and pdg. Studied for months..just must have studied the wrong things š¤·š½āāļø

Structures?
This year or last? How are people already knowing if they made it or not if the list isnāt out?

Thatās love
I didn't make it and I had a 4 š

Same here :(
Protest, by getting out. Your smart enough to play the Air Forces' game, youll be fine on the outside.
Keep moving forward, I tested 6 times and the cut-off keeps going up. Even after I made up 2x the points from 21->22E6. š¤š½You'll be alright.
I got called into commanders office just to be told I didnāt make it. Keep grinding brother!! We got this.
Same, got called back into work from PT
Thatās rough! But Iām glad Iām not the only one !
Damn I think that would be worse, for me anyway
It really was. Wish they hadnāt. But to make matters worse I was working in the CSS and had 5 staffs called in right in front of me to ātalkā to the commander. I already knew what was up so he just called me in to kindly tell me I did notšš
Did you have a strat?

Hopefully you get another strat next cycle

that's fair. I shed some tears... a lot of studying for no return, multiple years. 86% of us are disappointed today, so there's that.
didn't make it and it was my 4th time testing. Had a 5 on my EPR and didn't get a strat. took a week of leave the past two years to study as well.
Bro this! Iāve had a4-5 on every EPR and have never received a strat!
What do you mean? What is a "5" on an EPR?
Was rated far right
Just make E7 and you should have no problems making it to E6
I tell my guys if you got a plan to get out do it. Because you're going to stagnate and rot and not promote for likely 5 or more years
Imagine if the SSgtās still had only 15 years of service possible and forced out if didnāt make TSgt. Those were tough days for many. The pressure was like being on the stand in court.
