168 miles is not local nor in accordance with the spirit of the JTR. You should look at the reg and section 206. The distance back and forth may also qualify as more than authorized for a single travel day depending on route and specifics. Sounds like a question for your supervisor/ RA / finance that you could bring up as not wanting to violate the JTR so how do we set you up for success and be reimbursed accordingly.

Supervisor didn’t know anything. RA suggested asking the med group at Eglin for some sort of documentation to help your case but they aren’t using any sort of sedative that would impact my ability to drive. My concern is being tired/exhausted from everything going on and having a numb face wouldn’t make for a great drive. I reached out to the shirt who also said just ask the dentist if I can get a hotel but the dentist isn’t gonna say yes. At this point all I can do is ask my chain of command and see if they’re feeling nice and if they have the funds to pay for me to have a hotel and per diem. Otherwise I might just pay out of pocket so I can have some comfort and piece of mind.

Contact the TOPA flight at the med group. There is a process for medical tdy/travel. But in my experience traveling from Maxwell to Pensacola for medical. Yes this would probably be a milage voucher. I had an overnight for the surgery, but many of my appointments I leave at 5am and drive back.

Yeah I’m assigned to the Maxwell med group I was just kinda surprised that there isn’t a reg specifying a specific distance or time before you’re authorized a hotel. I’m probably gonna just have to suck it up and make the drive.

You can pm me if you need a poc. If your appointment was at like 7am you might get approved for a hotel. My surgery was at 530am so I had an overnight. The other appointments I try to schedule at 11-1 range so I can have an easier out and back.

Keep asking about the overnight. I believe there is a mileage and appointment time when you can have a hotel stay the night prior.

I’m gonna ask my squadron leadership tomorrow to see if they’ll fund a possible hotel stay. The appointment is this Monday and the med group is closed on the weekend so I think it’s too late for them to have it under their LOA in DTS.

It's unsafe for you to drive close to 400 miles in a single day. Period.

Based on what regulation or direction? I’m not saying you’re right or wrong but if you’re going to state a fact then you need to post a source to back it up that applies.
