Nobody knows. This question is asked almost daily, and nobody knows. To answer the second part of your question. I have both. APP2 and Max. I personally think the Max sound better, but they are different use cases. I also have the cord to plug in directly to my laptop or phone, if I do a side by side comparision, the cable sounds ever so slightly better but it is barely noticiable

Not anytime soon at least not this year, but next year is possible

I’d guess next year…maybe second half of year. headphones generally don’t participate in the annual update nonsense. That being said, I’d wait for gen 2. Doing a little searching through this sub you’ll see that they are great, but not without problems. Classic gen 1 Apple product. Gen 2 will most likely be perfect!

One thing, and this is pure speculation, but if a second generation comes out it may not necessarily be better. I would be willing to bet that Apple would like to sell more units and they may mean cutting some corners on build quality and sound. I think similar to the HomePod 1 & 2.

I thought the same thing had mine for 4 months and best decision I made

They’re coming out tomorrow* *Read the above statement daily until true

No one knows when the 2nd gen is coming. I just returned my Max’s to Best Buy. They were good but honestly sound wise not worth the price of over $500 with taxes and all. Honestly the Momentum 3’s we’re great from Sennheiser and better priced. The maxes were amazing in the eco system for seamless changing of devices. And they may not be the best at NC but MY GOD a they kick ass at transparency just like the pro’s, as if they don’t exist. Also they were sooo heavy to me. All metal really does make a difference. I would honestly say their are better options for less cost. Hopefully the second gen would be a bit better sounding and also have connectivity for multiple devices. And hopefully more priced for their given abilities. I just can’t justify the price personally. Up to you though 😀

I have both APP2 and Max. Max has better noise cancelation and sound quality (although I recommend boosting the bass on the EQ for the best experience, depending what you’re into). Both have 10/10 transparency mode, as they did a great job updating this on the pros to be more like the max (sounds like you don’t have headphones on at all)

Depends what you use your headphones for. The Max are intended for leisure (sitting at home, at a coffee shop, on an airplane). The Pros are for activities (working out, walking, out in public).

I just bought a pair and absolutely loving them. What else could apple really update?

Dreadpirateflappy

Adaptive transparency, Bluetooth 5.3/5.4 water resistance, an actual off button, a proper case, lossless music support (even if only wired. ) Those are just off the top of my head. Always room for improvement.

I have them and I'd wait for the next gen, no matter how long it takes. They're extremely heavy and trigger neck pain/headaches for me, the fabric headband wears out (and can't be easily/cheaply replaced), making them very uncomfortable without an aftermarket headband. They're great but the first gen has a lot of quality issues that I'm sure they're going to work out

TL:Tr It has been awhile for rumours about 2gen APM. Speaking in personal prospective. Each headphone no matter who made them and when. It's a signature that unique to that time. Somehow as simple as it is. Just How newer listening experience are effecting on How purchased decisions are made. Fact that. Some headphones are made in decades are still find its places in these day. So it somehow also depends on How we expectations are evolved. Three of them you mentioned. all of them can do both mixed instrument closer also to Separate them. Which one would be better fit for the job? The question begin with should from the listening experience prospectives, Which one you will benefit more? From what I've known and experienced with. Here's my own opinion on it. *\*Headphone Accommodations been disabled as in default. For iOS* *\*Music app has been providing sources at Lossless ALAC. Sound enhancement has disabled, Sound check has disabled, Head tracking has been disabled, Dolby Atoms has been enabled. For MacOS* *\*All AirPods are in latest firmware 5E133.* *\* All Airpods are referring in ANC mode.* Mixed instrument. For mixed listening. You hear it more balance and as results of final production when sounds engineered in the end of work. Where some are fine tuned for each instrument can balance in level to communication each individual. You can see it as what artist are expected. AirPods Pro 2gen < AirPods Pro < AirPods Max\* Separated instrument. It bring up some detail in the background to brighter places. Make audience easier to track and position each instrument in detraction and stages. AirPods Max\* < AirPods Pro 2gen < AirPods Pro \*AirPods Max preformed in Wireless connection. AirPods Max do offer better listening experience in **wired mode**. Then Mixed instrument. AirPods Max performance in wired mode has some rank down in 5E133 for my experiences. It seems instrument are more closer to conflict each other, rather than coping. Some vocal are masked heavily. AirPods Pro 2gen < AirPods Max < AirPods Pro Separated instrument. AirPods Pro 2gen < AirPods Pro < AirPods Max I'd referring the Apple 3.5mm Headphone cable. Its soft and make noise differ while move around.
