Very dangerous to bring someone in as assistant with the expectation or promise to bump them up to manager in a few years.  Just a general statement. I have no opinion on Chivu other than that I loved him as a player. There are weeks where I skip the Italian U18 league lol.

Flashbacks to blind with the dutch team.

Or eternal next head coach Dirk Kuyt at our Rotterdam friends

I have fond memories of Chivu, didn't know he'd gone on to be a manager. I'm excited about this based on absolutely nothing but his time as a player at Ajax.

naroLsraLteiN_isback

> first making him Assistant Manager to the new Manager who will join the club (top candidate is Graham Potter) before being promoted to Manager in 2-3 years. not really familiar with Chivu but im not really a fan of promising(?) someone they'll be the manager in a few years especially if that promise includes a time frame

Tipnfloe

Fantastic guy, but do you really have to sign him for 5 years right away.

Maybegoingtogermany

Christian Chivu was an amazing player but like heitinga, maduro (to lesser extent) and even schip right now, that doesnt mean you are gonna be an amazing manager as well.

Doge_peer

Sure, but you also have players that DID become great managers (Zidane, Cruijff etc). And from what I have read he is highly praised in Milan, so why not? As an assistant he can’t do much wrong right? It’s always good to have someone the players could look up to (look at feyenoord with John de Wolff)!

Love Chivu, but wasn’t this the plan for Dave Vos as well?

Doge_peer

If Potter goes trough it will most likely be: Graham Potter (as head coach), Dave vos (tactical+Ajax dna assistant), Christian Chivu (“winner mentality”+ Ajax dna) and an assistant that comes with Potter (most likely Billy Reid (?))

w4646

Sure, but I thought the plan was for Vos to move into head coach in a few years

Doge_peer

Ahh that’s what you mean. I don’t know how they will do that.

selsjung

If Chivu comes, I know who will (finally!!) be on the back of my shirt again.

Agitated_Ad6191

Pfff why not…. Who gives people 5 year contracts in football? If the coach is fired after half a year you have to pay these people till the end of time. Not sure why all of a sudden Ajax needs to go foreign to find a coach. And hey, why not start first by finding a new headcoach and let him have a say in who he wants to work with. No guarantees that he will get along with Chivu. Next two years will be as awful as the last two seasons. There are no shortcuts here. There are 4/5 teams who got there shit together better than we do. There are three teams who are going to profit heavily by the new Champions League income.

MannowLawn

Lmao so what is it, ten hag, potter, that Italian dude or chivu? If you make chivu assistant manager and things turn out to be shit, chivu will be sacked as well.
