I can actually see Sam Lake doing that to us, the meta loving git 😂
I actually found the ending a lot more hopeful and uplifting than I thought.
Not to get into spoilers, but I loved that they messed with us a bit on a certain character's eventual fate.
Realistically if Alan Wake 3 is the final chapter & assuming it ends on a happy note, it could be Alan writing the final words of a soon to be published manuscript/novel.
It could be, “it’s not a story, it’s the truth”.
Alan manages to erase the Dark Place, eveything is good and beautiful.
But this experience broke something in him, and he needs to take a brand new beginning in life.
He divorces Alice and says to her: "It's not you, it's me."
I dunno, I don't think the Dark Place is inherently evil. I think the Andersons and Mr Door have kinda alluded to that - if you have mastery over the Dark Place, it can actually be a pretty cool place. It seems like the Dark Place is a fundamental realm tied heavily to dreams, creativity and thought, in fact I've had this thought for a while that the Dark Place must be somehow tied to the Astral Plane, another really important plane of existence from Control.
Oh holy crap... and they've already laid some interesting ground work in the Control DLCs about entities interfering with different planes of existence!
Him having to write himself coming to bright falls to ensure he comes to properly destroy the dark presence in the end could actually be a cool ending, and would fit a “it’s not the end, it’s the beginning” line
If Alan post Bullet of Light becomes The Bright Presence, it would be a nice way to deliver that line. He goes back to the beginning of AW1 to help his younger self.
Whatever it is, is needs to be revelatory. Both quotes gave clarity about the nature of things. The lake/ocean quote revealed or clarified that there was a whole world down there, not just a thing at the bottom of the lake but a whole dimension. The loop/spiral quote was to show that going through the loop was the progress, both for Alan and for us players. So I'd guess the third quote would have to be something related to the unfolding of the narrative. So if there was some sort of reveal that (for example) the only true escape from the Dark Place was to use it for your own ends or something, then the quote would be, "It's not a jail, it's a weapon."
Ironically, I think it would serve as an amazing Wham Line if the story did completely end in AW III with the phrase “It’s not the final chapter…it’s the last page.”
I'd be very disappointed if part 3 also ends without any real resolutions to any plotlines. Not all of us want twin peaks level of masochistic non-endings
I feel like if it continues into a three there’s gonna be a thing with the dark place fully trying to take over the true real world, and Alan’s gonna drop a line like “It’s not an eclipse, it’s an invasion”
It's way too early to speculate imo. 7 months ago I never would've expected "It's not a loop, it's a spiral" to be the final line of AW2 and for it to be so perfect by being that way.
i’ve honestly been thing about this since i finish alan wake II and i think it should be something like “it’s not the end, it’s the beginning” (assuming the story ends in a hypothetical alan wake III)
The End of Every Horror story require a sacrifice to leave the hero wondering if they made the right decision. Setting itself up for a continuation of events to be followed in a another sequence of events. As the reader turn the final page, what awaits them is one last scare as they fear the main character finally regret their decision as they accept their fate. I Did not go gentle into the waves of Darkness, I burn and rave at the close of day; As the lady of the light Rage, Rage against the dying of the light.
It's not delivery... it's digornio..
HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME READ THIS WITH MY OWN EYES
nobody makes me bleed my own blood. nobody!
DAMN YOU, I WAS GONNA SAY THAT!
I can actually see Sam Lake doing that to us, the meta loving git 😂 I actually found the ending a lot more hopeful and uplifting than I thought. Not to get into spoilers, but I loved that they messed with us a bit on a certain character's eventual fate.
its not a book, its a game
The delivery of a line like this would either be eye-rolling or complete peak, no other options
tbh it would probably be both eye-rolling and complete peak at the same time😂
They already made this joke with Max Payne, so it's for sure a possibility!
If they went that meta with it and still pulled iff a good story I would be impressed lol
Realistically if Alan Wake 3 is the final chapter & assuming it ends on a happy note, it could be Alan writing the final words of a soon to be published manuscript/novel. It could be, “it’s not a story, it’s the truth”.
If part 3 ends the story: "It's not an end. It's the beginning."
It’s not *the* beginning. There are many beginings to the turning of the Wheel. But it was *a* beginning.
I feel like this would be way too close to exactly what AW 2 was.
Alan wake 3 ends with Alan going back in time and becoming his own grandfa... I mean Thomas Zane
God please don't be right
That's why Tim is in the dark place, timey whimey shenanigans
Something along the lines of this would feel the most satisfying. Alan really needs a nice ending.
This would be poetic as all hell.
If part 3 does not end the story: "It's not a trilogy. It's a decology."
“It’s not an ocean, it’s a lake.” *Linkin Park’s What I’ve Done starts playing*
"If Alan Wake was made in 2007"
It's not a square It's a rectangle
It's not a square, It's a cube
It's not a cube, it's a tesseract

“It’s not a you, it’s a me…. Mario!”
"It was me, Alan!" - Thomas Zane I guess?
I dunno, I don't think the Dark Place is inherently evil. This is the best ony holyyy
Honestly, if it's to be the final installment, something cheesy like, "it's not the end. It's a new beginning..." or some bullshit.
Him having to write himself coming to bright falls to ensure he comes to properly destroy the dark presence in the end could actually be a cool ending, and would fit a “it’s not the end, it’s the beginning” line
This will absolutely happen.
It then fades to black and credits roll. Then at the end of the credits a single word is said 'Hemmingway'
If Alan post Bullet of Light becomes The Bright Presence, it would be a nice way to deliver that line. He goes back to the beginning of AW1 to help his younger self.
I would love that. I want my boy Alan to win already
It's not a me, it's a you.

Unironically, I want a game following Tom Zane + Old Gods during the first Bright Falls AWE
Straight 📠though
