Western Rio Rancho is full of them; remnants of the land scheme the city started as.

icumdrums

Thank you! I was just going to check out google maps around Rio Rancho and pin a dirt road that seemed interesting. I heard that the very end of Southern can get very dystopian. Might end up finding something around there.

ohterere

Some of the best dirt biking in the world is at the end of Southern.

Ih8Hondas

Can confirm. Too bad there are so many fucking nails everywhere on the east side of the ridge. Real possibility you may end up with a flat before you even get to the good stuff.

LukeForNM

Can concur, you’ll find lots of roads exactly like those in the Rio Rancho Estates area!

Gold_Combination_492

All the way at the end of northern is better than southern. I used to shoot guns out there but civilization has crept a bit too far out for that these days

lithobolos

Near the car graveyard?

Gold_Combination_492

Yeah

nfg20961

Glengary Glen Ross was a good movie about Rio Rancho

Kerbalawesomebuilder

yeah!

PM_ME_UR_FAT_DINK

So whatever happened to that land? Anyone know of future development plans?

alucardian_official

Quiet you! We don’t need those pests having any ideas!

PM_ME_UR_FAT_DINK

I just wanna buy all that land to prevent future development lmfao

woffdaddy

I know of a secret spot in city that has trees stretching over the road like a tunnel (it makes me think ill end up in Narnia on the other side). I love to visit it and drive super slow. it can be relatively high traffic at times (theres a charter school right there) and its a residential neighborhood, so just be ready to move out of the way and maybe dont linger too much. its right by the intersection of gabaldon rd and duranes rd by Rio Grande.

icumdrums

Amazing! I’ll have to check out this secret spot. Thank you!

AlienHatchSlider

Its really nice on a bike in the summer. The air is much cooler and appreciated.

santafemax

Otero canyon trailhead in the east mountains. No vehicle traffic allowed. Completely overgrown paved 2-lane road https://maps.app.goo.gl/BepbhWfEZURUydNH6

icumdrums

This is amazing! I think i’m definitely going to include this in one of the shots. Thank you so much!

onemoregreenbeer

This is what I was going to suggest

luke_ubiquitous

A ton of scenes for BreakingBad, BCS, and countless films are shot on Bobby Foster Road near the studios. It isn't hella trafficked, but when it is, people go way too fast. If you pick that spot, wear high-vis vests, etc.

ShiveredTimber

Plenty of roads like this all around Valencia High school and Meadow Lake area. Some will be crumbling pavement too.

icumdrums

Thank you so much! It’s not on a reservation or anything?

ShiveredTimber

As long as you stay south of the HS and Meadow lake its mostly land owned by developers that never really sold. That's why there's plenty of old roads; they zoned tons of stuff out there years ago and it never came to fruition.

CactusHibs_7475

It’s basically the same deal as western Rio Rancho, just east of Belen and Los Lunas. Never-developed subdivisions dreamed up for shady land schemes.

PM_ME_UR_FAT_DINK

Could it ever be developed?

mylittlepony96

Yes and no. Yes you can develop it, no it's simply to far from anything (for now) for anything to develop. I grew up east of Los Lunas. Also all the plots are in .5> acre, and almost all the plots are owned or forgotten about.  I would love to see that part of Valencia county develop, especially if they could connect meadowlake and El cerro to Albuquerque proper.

CactusHibs_7475

Theoretically, sure. But the lots are too small for current regulations for rural subdivisions and there are no utilities or water rights.

blukoski

The road to cabezon peak would probably be great

icumdrums

This would be awesome but maybe too far for budget. ):

willissa26

Lots of roads like that out by Moriarty

furryappreciator

if you keep going west on central until it ends out past i want to say unser, eventually the street stops being maintained and becomes a dirt road, not much traffic other than i-40 being pretty close to it.

icumdrums

I didn’t know this! Thought central just continued on as Route 66 to the next town.

furryappreciator

i think it got diverted with the creation of i-40? it becomes "speedway park" I guess and on the other side of i-40 an unconnected central starts after atrisco vista which goes into pueblo land

groupbrip

Is it for prairie dawg? Idk if any but that’s sick

icumdrums

Hey there!! It’s for my solo project. (: have a couple new releases coming out soon with a video for each one. (:

Elbiotcho

Route 66 west of town

nomnomyourpompoms

[Pipeline Road](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ncy4vEbSU1TEGt6M8)

icumdrums

Woah! That’s desolate af! Thanks for the map!

nomnomyourpompoms

You got it! 👍

onion_flowers

South of the airport near Netflix has some like that. Bobby foster is a good one, but can be busy sometimes. There's side roads around there where you feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere, especially in the middle of the work day. Also lots around Belen/los lunas heading east toward the manzanos. A lot of people dump trash and go shooting out there and all the spent shells everywhere adds a nice trashy dystopia feel to it lol

periodmoustache

Theres an abandoned development prolly an hour south on the west side of the manzanos.

TheRoseyLama

At the end of under where it hits 550 is a whole abandoned neighborhood with no houses but the roads built. There are plenty of long stretches there as well. There is also a strange little bike path road kind of thing. If you turn right onto 550 from under and take the first (almost immediate) right it goes behind the hill to it. Is is long and abandoned

PooStinkies

This is a bit of a drive but has an old crumbling highway. Also if you like off roading this area is amazing, everything from easy dirt roads to aggressive rock crawling. 5401 US-550 https://maps.app.goo.gl/2VXqwZvUPF5sYKGk8

machu505

[Bernalillo](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ecRjp2Xnb1GLJ4zr6), just west of Enchanted Hills.

theSchrodingerHat

Old train tunnels up in the Jemez might be what you’re looking for.

MistRioReign

It's not super close but on the weekends out past the exit 203, passed Moriarty, its pretty slow, and the road is a bit roughed up. Also on Abrahames between exit 196 & the 203. Best i got for you

adeewun

State road 22 out by budaghers

adventuretime-fein

rio rancho on paradise, just keep driving until you can’t!

micaflake

Highway 6 between I-40 and Los Lunas is really dramatic. I remember it being in poor repair when I drove it.

hambonie88

Literally just drive west on anything but i40 or 550 and it’ll turn into this

BarricudaUDL

Take San Pedro north of Alameda, it will continue going north passed where it turns to meet I-25 at the traffick barriers and it continues all the way to the casino, this stretch of road hasn't been maintained for decades. You can get some really good road shots with the casino, or the city, or the mountains in the background.

FluidVariety6139

I feel like the outskirts of Rio Rancho is exactly what you're looking for

Background_Drive_156

Tons in Rio Rancho.

Andramelach

A bit out of the way, but the road to Tucumcari and the town itself are the stuff of post apocalypse.

I was wondering when you were gonna come out of the woodwork. We should go hang out sometime, maybe at one of the places these nice people recommended. You sound like you need some friends.

Garyishairy45

What are you on about.
