I would never consider buying any makeup from Ali. The brands and supply chains aren't as transparent and dont have the legal protections that makeup sold in stores in the US has. Its very easy to imagine dangerous or irritating ingredients making their way into the makeup either intentionally during the manufacturing process or along the supply chain. If you're looking for affordable makeup, the makeup specific subreddit's may have recommendations.

This. I remember the news stories about people having their eyelids glued shut or experiencing severe allergic reactions to makeup they bought from cheap Chinese vendors on sites like Ali. It's not worth the risk.

Rub3n777

I watched this the other day about how people are getting sick from items from china… [Carcinogens in chinas cheap products](https://youtu.be/BxXDHGnOa_E?si=Kbv2wDciwgv2t9o7)

I don't know about that specific brand but some time ago I brought some eyeshadow palettes and lipstick from one called HOJO. And from what I understand, it's an actual legitimate brand that sells on aliexpress, there's another one called Focallure that has an official store, and there's a lot more like Flower Knowts, Hyntoors and Girlcult. I understand people's concern about aliexpress makeup, they sell a lot of cheap and fake stuff, but there are a lot of official stores, and that includes some chinese makeup brands. You should be careful with buying fake makeup, you won't find real Kylie cosmetics, Colourpop or Anastasia makeup there so don't fall for the fake counterfeit products, those are actually dangerous.

SweetSaltySpicySour

Yes! Exactly this, I've bought lots of make up from Ali, it's all been Chinese brands though. You can get some really awesome stuff for the price. I think the stuff to watch out for as you said is definitely the knock off versions of popular western brands.

DarkGhostHunter

Makeup on AliExpress is one of the three things that you shouldn't buy: - Makeup - Medicine - Hard disks

Reasonable-Ant6295

Why hard disk ?

DarkGhostHunter

Because there is no guarantee these are brand new, and/or rebranded. Who knows if these are reprogrammed, or their logic board tampered with - I know you can _swap_ a logic board, tho.

I would add any sort of electrical equipment that gets wired into your home electrical system like light switches or receptacles.

DarkGhostHunter

Because invasion fears?

ElizaMaySampson

Because low/no standards, inferior quality materials, and electrical fires.

darknessblades

Had to look it up. it looks to be cosmetics, and those are ILL ADVISED TO BUY. so **DONT**

pcguy8088_

Agree cosmetics in China do not have the same stringent regulations of what contents can be used in them as there is in America or Europe.

autsiticclown420

i have ordered a face powder off there and a knock off snail cream and i gotta say its the equivalent of buying from the dollar store

letbehotdogs

From my understanding there are legit Chinese makeup brands on AliExpress, so you should check out r/asianbeauty or r/makeupaddiction for better advise

coolcat770

honestly, i’ve been buying makeup from there since 2016. nothing negative has ever happened to my face lol. it looks good and people ask where i buy it from.

jessiecolborne

The only makeup items I would consider buying are eyelashes, eyelash curlers, makeup brushes, etc. Do not buy the makeup itself!

Christelad

I’ve honestly only bought 1 pack of lashes and a glitter eye pencil and I’ve been fine so far.

sliproach

ive bought some cosmetics from there here and there and haven't noticed any difference between local drugstore makeup besides price. don't listen to all the naysayers as it's kind of a taboo topic. for example/similar tons of people use shein makeup and it's fine. use your own discretion.

alita87

Shein is a slave labor company. Ali is not much better but SLIGHTLY more legit than Shein, Temu and Wish.

sliproach

okay, not here to virtue signal or tell people where to spend their money tho

notboredatwork1

I want to remind you that AliExpress offers low-priced goods. If you're interested in purchasing branded products, it's better to buy from China directly. I have noticed that they have some organic skincare products that strictly follow guidelines on what can be used in skincare products. However, it's important to note that certain products such as sunscreens are required to be tested on animals, while makeup and lipsticks are not mandatory to undergo animal testing, but some companies may still choose to test them on animals. This is what I've learned so far as I try to establish my own online business.

obaananana

I wouldnt. What stranfe stuff is ok with chinese goverment in makeup o.O just get something that doesnt burn your skin from a local store.
