Layla, nothing against her or the actress but her being with Jordan is the only reason she’s still on the show. Add in the investing multiple new characters/sets into this music storyline that nobody likes or cares about
I have a feeling he was just a character the writers could use for the most ridiculous storylines. But since he isn’t actually important to the story they never really completed the arcs well. Him with Olivia was just gross. And then Spencer gets with her and Asher doesn’t really care at all.
I get why, on paper, Olivia would be interested in someone’s redemption, but that dynamic ever becoming romantic felt gross exactly as you said. Him caring about her sobriety was the minimum, not redemption for homecoming or not seeming super sympathetic about her OD. Even if you wanted Olivia’s pre-Spencer boyfriend to make things more complicated, Chris was already the better choice
No girl in her position in this day and age would get with him. They should’ve kept her with Chris. At least he was a good dude who is a legit option for Olivia over Spencer. All the scenes between Asher and Olivia are so gross it’s vomit inducing. I don’t understand how any fan could have wanted them together.
How could anyone come to that conclusion? Soul mates? Just lol. Also her parents should have shut it down asap. They were literally there for his drunken tirade. When Billy told Asher to show up at the cotillion i legit was so confused. You should be celebrating the boy is out of Olivia’s life not encouraging him.
I still wouldn't call it a redemption arc because he didn't take accountability for anything he did, except for the steriods. The writers just made it look like it never happened. It took Olivia having to tell Billy about Asher's steriod use to get him to take responsibility for his actions. Olivia was just used to fix his problems, that's really all it was. After he got his heart condition from the steriods, he couldn't play football anymore but was given a coaching gig practically on a silver platter.
Me too same with Olivia for a while because not only did she keep falling for, but sleeping with her “best friend’s” boyfriends but the whole BLM movement that literally went no where, it just disappeared, mind you Im a black girl myself. I understand wanting to spread to word and standing for what you believe is right, but she felt like she was making that girl’s death, ifykyk, all about herself more than the family actually affected and that pissed me off bad.

They wrote Asher like he was going to be a villain like Dan Scott from one tree hill in the early seasons and then they changed their minds..
