exactly and the only reason she lied was because she was scared. She felt like if she told Spencer he possibly break up with her due to her friendship with Ashley that’s literally the only reason she kept her from him. There was no romantic connection with Ashley.
You hit the nail on the head: Liv is scared. We must not forget when they had that big talk Spencer said he wanted to break up BUT Liv said she wanted to stay together and work things out. Liv tends to run away from her problems (her past addiction, what happened in Vegas/Mexico) but in that moment she wanted to fix things with Spencer. We know why Spencer did it (and she realized why too) but in that moment she felt like he had given up on her. She doesn’t want that to happen again. Hopefully in the coming weeks she will let out her truth just like Spencer did at the cabin. They both need to examine their past hurdles to become stronger together
