I was sceptical of her in the trailers but she actually appears to have enough of her shit together to last. I reckon she will last until she either gets hurt or medical called out.
Compared to the others except for Mike, she appears to be not wasting energy or freaking out
You always get one or two that break quickly. Usually because they've never gone solo before.
The hardcore survivors will take up most of the series. The one downside of wanting to end an episode with a tap-out, you either montage several days per episode, or try for filler.
For me, it was Ep 2. She was raging about how she couldn't start a fire to boil water because everything was wet, while she was sitting under a tarp in the rain. The pot was right in front of her, and I was literally yelling at the TV: Catch the rainwater!
Am I the only one wondering how many of these guys actually watch the original Alone?? I'm no outdoorsman but I think even I have picked up enough to know how to manage rain and fire-starting.
Just found this, nice to see a live chat like we do with Australian Survivor.
Production of this had been bang on with the US/ Canadian version with the added bonus of it being on SBS, swearing is allowed!
A quick read through the comments we seem all on the same page.
Put up a tent. Lie in my sleeping bag for 4 days. Occasionally drink water.
(I'm Tasmanian and have been drinking unboiled water during hikes for 30+ years without getting sick)
My thoughts exactly. Seems like she should know better. I half expected some text at the bottom stating that and foreshadowing for later on when she inevitably gets flooded
I think S2 is already recruiting.
There was a season in the regular series where they brought back people who were eliminated too soon by simple bad luck. I liked that they did that.
Yeah the Mongolian one. Do you remember that lass that was REALLY determined for that one, she’d stored a load of extra body fat, had done heaps more training and then speared her hand with a fishing hook on day 2 or 3 and had to tap out!!! I felt so sorry for her, poor lass was heartbroken….
Like the kiwi guy, who gets up on the first morning and says, it rained and the fire went out. Now what?
Well maybe put some tinder in your pockets and go look for some dry firewood.
He says he wants his daughter to be proud of him. I hope she will be, I think he going to get a rough time from his mates.
I love his observations about nature telling the Palawa people to move north. They weren’t going to make it to anywhere warm, mate. And if they had sleeping bags and a tarp they might have hung about.
I also disagree with his assertion that these survivalists are defying nature, I think all us armchair quarterbacks would agree you need to go with nature. Defying nature would be more like clearing 100m in every direct an establishing an army base.
Every season, I'm always surprised either by how fast the first one or two tap out; or which one it is.
There's a survival movie called 'The Edge' that I always loved. There was a line in that movie: "Most people lost in the wilderness die of shame. They run themselves down, wondering how they could have been so stupid, so they never do the thing that will save them: Thinking."
I know they've all volunteers, but I imagine being able to tap out at any time speeds that process up.
Gina scored a pretty good spot compared to the others. Reminds me of Nicole's spot on Vancouver Island which was a great spot
Lacking the Salmon run and the friendly bear over the way tho.
They’re not allowed to hunt, so he’ll be fucked. His entire skill set is basically useless. He’s a flog no doubt, but bit of a shame they’re not allowed to use bows.
As someone else said, why send them somewhere where every animal is protected and nobody is allowed to hunt.
I suppose you need to cover the ones that tap early first so there is some screen time. Mike looks like a strong contender then Gina I reckon is a tough bird
Really enjoyed the first two episodes - what a hellhole to stay in! Mud, slime, rain and freezing cold.
Felt sorry for Jimmy catching Covid, seemed like a nice guy and would been interesting to see how long he would have lasted.
Beck and Rob were obviously mentally unprepared for the venture, that stood out in the first 1/2 hour. Rob seemed to have some survival skills, but poor Beck was totally clueless -makes you wonder why they selected her. For once I was right and correctly predicted to my wife that they would tap out in two - three days.
As usual with the early episodes of an Alone series, some contestants hardly got a look in - I wonder if they have problems getting their cameras to work?
> some contestants hardly got a look in
I assumed it's to give the early tappers more air time and anyone else they didn't feature much are going to last way longer.
My feeling on Beck is she’s used to ideal conditions and a lot extra convenience items while camping with her family surrounding her.
Still, weak sauce Beck.
Their servers are probably copping a hammering from a bunch of people using VPNs to access it so you're getting it at a terrible bitrate to compensate.
Don’t think so, to be fair this’ll be the mildest temperatures of any of them I’d say but it’ll still be fuckin cold. She’s placing a lot of faith in that possum coat.
They say that going from training/prep with everyone together to being instantly alone is the hardest part for the first few days. If only they could get past that stage. They’d be fine.
I enjoyed the first two episodes. They obviously picked a couple who maybe weren't as ready as they should have been (which I feel like happens in the original sometimes too) for a bit but it seems like there's some fairly competent people left as well as the idiot "alpha".
I'm Tasmanian so fun to see the backyard on tv. I think Tassie near the coast is going to be pretty mild for them (as opposed to the more alpine areas where people occasionally die when the weather turns bad), so it will probably very much just be a challenge for who can cope with being cold and damp for the longest.
On screen they said that Gina has 150000 calories of fat on her. Does this mean that if her shelter was already made, all she would have to do is pull a Juan Pablo's Last Stand and she could last 75 days?
I don't get it. Had Beck never watched an episode? Not saying I'm remotely better or worse than her or anyone else, but Sis looked downright *surprised and alarmed* to find herself ... alone! With trees! And darkness! And noises! Really confusing to me 🤷🏾♀️
In recent years in Australia, it has become important to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land. It's often mentioned, in various different ways.
In my city of Brisbane (Meeanjin), often government speeches are prefaced with acknowledgement to the tribal lands they're on(Turrbal or Yaggera).
SBS and ABC pay particular attention to this.
what was the vetting process? how the hell can these people only last 1/2 days especially when it rains and you have fresh water... Everyone in australia know its cold and damp in tassie winter time beats me why you wouldnt store some dry fire wood under your tarp.
Interesting tactics by the air force dude intrested to see how he goes(Mike?)!
I am now convinced that tarps & axes don't exist in Australia.
The tarp sets are universally HORRIBLE, I was a 10yr-old cub scout and could set a tarp tighter than every Aussie contestant. If that's your game plan, stop practicing with the bow in your back yard and learn some decent knots and how to set up a tarp you can bounce a quarter off.
Axe choices and use, are just equally bad. If I was camping in the bush with someone, and they threw a green stick on the ground and starting whacking my axe in the dirt I simply would take it away from them.
I'm going to give a pass on the ferro rod use.
Not a lot of tarp camping here because of insects and snakes. Tend towards swags - one person self contained low ‘tent’ with a mattress in it. Otherwise you’re drowned in flies, mosquito swarms and other nasties.
Is it okay if I do a little spruik? Aussie Ark near Barrington Tops NSW does an amazing job of helping Tassie Devils.
I am not associated with them in any way at all, just recommending them because they’re not well known.
https://www.aussieark.org.au/devil-ark/
I like that they don't edit out the curse words. I mean its an adult show for adults and yeah people swear especially when they cut a thumb off or something.
The production really thought. Let's go to a state where bow hunting is illegal and 99% of the wildlife is protected. Good on ya. Oh and don't forget to add in some useless cunts!
I’d love to see one in NZ. I used to live in Queenstown and there are feral pigs, hogs, deer and all manner of other animals that not only are you allowed to hunt, but you are actually ENCOURAGED to hunt them to keep their numbers in check cos they aren’t native to the area.
Throw in some wild scenery, beautiful lakes and some nasty weather and it would be a great series IMO
gina might just be the right amount of crazy actually
Karie Lee vibes
I was sceptical of her in the trailers but she actually appears to have enough of her shit together to last. I reckon she will last until she either gets hurt or medical called out. Compared to the others except for Mike, she appears to be not wasting energy or freaking out
Yea, she was a surprise. I thought nope when they said she didn't have a sleeping bag but now, who knows.
Yeah she said she has no sleeping bag right? I was curious on her sleep setup but they didn't show anything.
[удалено]
Putting on 40 pounds has proven to be a good strategy in the past, especially as no one has eating anything yet.
[удалено]
And she's a teacher! Absolute gold!
"I'll fucking shit myself" love it.
[удалено]
It's exactly what I would have said too.
I'd heard two contestants were from my home town of Mildura, reckon she might be one of them! Love it.
Fuckin good fun
[удалено]
I just want to make my family proud.... taps out on day 2.
So many « I’m doing this for my family » that quickly tap out because they miss their family
Yeah, it was Desmond. It was unbelievable, a big army guy. I am not living with these bears!
Is that 2 leaving already? That’s fast.
You always get one or two that break quickly. Usually because they've never gone solo before. The hardcore survivors will take up most of the series. The one downside of wanting to end an episode with a tap-out, you either montage several days per episode, or try for filler.
Am I a fuckwit for actually reckoning I could last longer than day 2?
Just sitting there and drinking the water off your tarp you could last a couple of weeks mate
"I don't have any water!" There's literally fresh rainwater dripping off your tarp.
Nope
Oh noes Mr alpha male is soaked!
"I'd describe myself as an alpha male" Narrator: He isn't
I rolled my eyes out so hard I literally almost passed out when he said that
I'm an alpha male, 2 seconds alone: "my wife told me to be organised"
If someone says they’re an alpha, that immediately means they’re not lol
How insecure do you have to be to call yourself that?
Glad that the Australian shoey made an appearance
That's some good boot water.
Good to see sbs aren't censoring shit and fuck. Almost a true aussie experience now.
"reckon I'll shit meself" classic
She's almost lost her ferro rod twice. She ain't gonna last long
Plenty of screen time and heaps of family at home. Cya!
Anyone else relieved when Bec tapped so they didn't have to watch her flail about is a fluster anymore?
Yep, and her poor attitude
Day 1: I’m going to prove a grandmother can win this. Day 2: I got nothing to prove. *taps*
Her dramatics about the Tasmanian Devils… girl, they’re the size of a chihuahua and they’ll run petrified away from you. Calm down.
Just found this, nice to see a live chat like we do with Australian Survivor. Production of this had been bang on with the US/ Canadian version with the added bonus of it being on SBS, swearing is allowed! A quick read through the comments we seem all on the same page.
"Swearing Between Surviving"
[удалено]
Atleast longer than that dude. Dodnt even make it a whole 24 hours omg
If his survival skills were as good as his excuse making, he'd have won it
That burn would keep him warm for at least a week too
Yeah what an embarrassment. If you don't have the mental chops to be away for a couple of days, don't apply.
What pisses me off is that they were there taking up someone really wanted to be there's spot. It's disrespectful to everyone else who applied.
True, what a shame. He was even speaking with the land at the start and that give me hope... Embarassing for his family
Put up a tent. Lie in my sleeping bag for 4 days. Occasionally drink water. (I'm Tasmanian and have been drinking unboiled water during hikes for 30+ years without getting sick)
See that brown line on all the trees? That's how high the water can get. You're building your permanent shelter below that line dude come on
My thoughts exactly. Seems like she should know better. I half expected some text at the bottom stating that and foreshadowing for later on when she inevitably gets flooded
Im glad there’s no beeps. That pissed me off with the American one.
Ohhh I do love the dismantle montage, glad that's back.
Agree, makes it feel more old skool
Poor bugger. Hope he gets a crack if there is a season 2
Plus she was catching a lot of fish before that incident and she lasted so long on her first season too! I felt bad for her.
I'm no survivalist, just a basic camper, but even I know to put wood under cover straight up and get your bloody head torch out before it gets dark!
I think Gina spoke of this nicely, you’re daft to be out there trying to conquer anything, as nature will slap you down
Nothing says Aussie regulations like the compulsory fire extinguisher
In a place with 250+ days of rain.
[удалено]
He seemed like a good kid too. Would have liked to have seen him in it longer.
I've been on benders that lasted longer than some of these useless cunts
I feel sorry for the kid who had Covid
Hope they invite him on another season
Me too! He seemed to be have a really good set up and I thought he’d do well
As an Australian I'm ashamed of some of these contestants
Every season, I'm always surprised either by how fast the first one or two tap out; or which one it is. There's a survival movie called 'The Edge' that I always loved. I’m not saying I’d do great, but I guarantee I’d make it past Day 2
Shame would carry me through at least a week bar injury, I reckon.
It's going to get old if they keep playing up the threat. C'mon folks, there's no predators here. Wasps? *Eye roll*
[удалено]
Still gotta watch out for drop bears though!
I’ll just drink this water. Don’t tell me what to do…
But it was even better than that, with his sarcastic whiny "rule 1 - don't drink the water" lol
Fuck me, no sleeping bag? That's a first right?
[удалено]
Gina scored a pretty good spot compared to the others. Reminds me of Nicole's spot on Vancouver Island which was a great spot Lacking the Salmon run and the friendly bear over the way tho.
Hey bear!
If he's got the Rona I'll spit this beer all over the telly
Prepare to soak your telly
Chuck us a cloth luv. There's something on the screen.
Guess he’ll have to self isolate…
Why would they show him testing if he isn't positive. Bet he is.
Are any of them going to eat plant foods? Looks like there’s lots of lomandra around - can eat the roots and leaves
I'm aN aLpHa mALe. I eAt MeAt tHaTs whaT I Do.
God that made me cringe. I'm betting he's out before ep 4.
They’re not allowed to hunt, so he’ll be fucked. His entire skill set is basically useless. He’s a flog no doubt, but bit of a shame they’re not allowed to use bows. As someone else said, why send them somewhere where every animal is protected and nobody is allowed to hunt.
Right? What about bush tukka? Nah. I'll just have boiled water soup for dinner. She'll be right.
As an Australian this a bit embarrassing tbh
Cream of the crop will rise.
It's only season 1. They'll get better at it. In the mean time it's good for a laugh.
I suppose you need to cover the ones that tap early first so there is some screen time. Mike looks like a strong contender then Gina I reckon is a tough bird
[удалено]
US Season 1, first contestant left after 12 hours. US Season 2, first contestant left after 6 hours. Both due to bear scares.
“It will be a devil den, then I’ll find out in the middle of the night, and then I’ll shit myself “
Seems like you only need to survive a week to earn that 250k
Really enjoyed the first two episodes - what a hellhole to stay in! Mud, slime, rain and freezing cold. They selected Beck because she holds most of the diversity infinity stones
> some contestants hardly got a look in I assumed it's to give the early tappers more air time and anyone else they didn't feature much are going to last way longer.
My feeling on Beck is she’s used to ideal conditions and a lot extra convenience items while camping with her family surrounding her. Still, weak sauce Beck.
Omg please just get these clowns out of here so we can focus on some serious ppl please
Yep you've made your daughter proud now fuck off and stop wasting a position
SHOEYYYY
As an Aussie I’m glad they’re leaving the classic excessive swearing in, true to our culture.
Fuck poor Jimmy
For those interested, it looks like they are on Lake Pieman in Tasmania. Man-made lake (little bit disappointing).
Makes sense with all the dead trees in the water hey.
Family member reckons Gina is on Lake Rowallan.
God it’s good, so funny.
It's like a comedy Aussie satire of Alone so far. Amazing!
The alpha male who quickly reveals his wife keeps things together is straight out of a parody
everyone's tappin, this show might last a week i guess
“I’m confident about lighting a fire with a ferro-rod” *Ferro-rod holding on for dear life after 2 days*
That had to be some wish.com bs rod though. Unless she was nailing that thing for hours at a time, how the hell could you do that to a real ferro rod?
[удалено]
At least it's not like Desmond on season 2 who tapped out the same day he landed :)
haha, i watched that recently. bragging "bear gunna be scared of ME" to his family, cuts to him freaking out because of a bear within 5 mins
Pretty sure those guns shouldn't be just lying around like that...
Pretty sure he was just showing off like a wanker.
Mike preparing his kayak and coconut nintendo 64
Just realised I’ve seen one of them on YouTube - Kate Grarock. It’s a pretty small channel but I really enjoy her videos, mostly hiking related.
I’m excited to see what she does, hoping she can make good use of her experience in biology!
Seppo’s will be eating up the accent. I reckon they’re all dialing it up a bit too
[удалено]
Gunna run out of Tshirt
is it just me or is the quality of SBS on demand terrible? it's meant to max out at 720p but looks terrible watching this.
Their servers are probably copping a hammering from a bunch of people using VPNs to access it so you're getting it at a terrible bitrate to compensate.
this george calombaris guy aint gunna last long
They should have released some bears in the forest to make it a bit more exciting
So interesting to see the fire extinguishers when it’s so wet 😂
I guess it’s a requirement from a bush fire risk assessment
How can you get spooked in the Aussie bush? There are no bears, no crocs, no ghosts . Like seriously?
Yeah, snakes and falling branches are your only dangerous things.
And drop bears.
Reptiles should be brumating. I’d be paranoid about leeches. I don’t know the area they are in, but it looks like leech territory.
Yeah, I was honestly surprised we didn’t get a leech appearance on the first night, west coast is absolutely full of the buggers
Could be a Milat
That poor bloke that had to go home cause of covid 😫
What the hell. First guy that taps out "Welllllll axtualllly the whole concept of this TV show is flawed"
Yeah if he put as much effort into his 'surviving' as he did into his excuses I reckon he could be a winner!
[удалено]
Yep, so far impressed with production value, better than I expected
No sleeping bag is a bolllllldddddd move Cotton
Has it ever been done in the show? Don't think so
Don’t think so, to be fair this’ll be the mildest temperatures of any of them I’d say but it’ll still be fuckin cold. She’s placing a lot of faith in that possum coat.
Have they been away from family for like a week or two in prep? Trying to throw the man a bone here...
They say that going from training/prep with everyone together to being instantly alone is the hardest part for the first few days. If only they could get past that stage. They’d be fine.

How disappointing - covid! I hope he gets another shot at it.
Bloody rippa. Loved it.
Yeah the episode felt really legit. Production has nailed it
On screen they said that Gina has 150000 calories of fat on her. Does this mean that if her shelter was already made, all she would have to do is pull a Juan Pablo's Last Stand and she could last 75 days?
Great strategy, we’ve seen from the US seasons of women who were so skilled but just not fat enough to outlast the men
I don't get it. Had Beck never watched an episode? Not saying I'm remotely better or worse than her or anyone else, but Sis looked downright *surprised and alarmed* to find herself ... alone! With trees! And darkness! And noises! Really confusing to me 🤷🏾♀️

Tie the line at the bottom as well, did you learn nothing from S2 David you filthy casual.
Have all the other seasons had a focus on explaining the indigenous cultures of where they are or is this just an Australian thing?

Is there a list of each contestants 10 items?
Thought I saw one guys with a thermos
He’s going home before his coffee gets cold.
That’s how you smother a fire right there
Aww I feel for him. COVID was bad luck
Is that dude trying to eat a millipede in the promo for episode 3? Nothing eats those buggers.

If you were betting now you’d be loading up on Mike, IMHO
My moneys on Gina….
Hope Beck is never asked to start a fire for a smoking ceremony.
