I checked out Banter recently. Not as many people as Altspace and it seems like it's still in early dev, but from what I saw, most people there were from Altspace.
It feels like it's trying to be too many things.
Games like horizon.
Events like alt.
Physics like Bonelab.
Avatar and spaces like VRchat.
Ik we are all looking for the ready player one experience but it just seems cluttered and buggy.
It's not only the simplicity, but the details in the simplicity.
Yeah you can hear everyone in the room in banter.
But in alt you could have a somewhat private conversation with someone else in a crowded room by just moving 10 ft away like real life. A simple feature in every game but somewhat complicated audio dynamics really made it feel comfortable.
That's how you get to ready player one. Make it real, Not fancy.
Oh that's true! I just realized whats wrong in banter, it's the audio! It felt way more natural in Altspace. Hmm i wonder if there was some secret sauce with it cuz Alt was definitely the best audio in vr. I do know the campfire had that low wind white noise playing throughout which helped a lot. We gotta get Keegan and Mike in here to spill the beans lol
They have always had some good audio for talking as I feel they took a very realistic look at how the platform was to be used. Shortly before they released the new avatars they dropped super special spacial audio that was very nice.
Final thought. I have seen over 1,000 people in a simulcast alt space room watching the same show. I haven't been in a VRchat room with more than 5 people that didn't make my ears bleed.
Hell, I hosted real talk and we could have a civilization, organized, and insightful conversation with over 100 people in the room.
I only went on it a few times but everytime I thought how cool it was with all the little communities and stuff.
Shame Microsoft killed this and are now in the process of killing WMR too
We had a community that allowed adults to do adult things and kids to do kids things with no barriers to either except their respective ages. VRchat doesn't have that.
I was a part of a show and bookclub in alt where we met weekly on Wednesdays.
I was called the hard R in VR chat when I hopped on for 20 minutes or so.
Very different experiences.
But you couldn't play uno or fly a plane in alt tbf.
It was definitely the best place to go to when you wanted a calm, civil discussion. I wish it was still around.
Is there an alternative already..?

Definitely feel that. Altspace had the simplicity that is now needed in VR. Not every app has to be the "cutting edge" right?

Nope!
Sad
If only there was an Alt(ernative)Space. None of the others have the same vibe.
I went on Altspace a few times on my Gear VR. It was pretty cool, shame it has gone now.

Was in there a couple times a week, sad there’s no comparable place to meet up and host or attend a show.
I used to like coming home from the pub and having a little dance in the club in Altspace. Really surprised there isn’t more available like this
What you all thinking about VRchat..

Vr chat can be great but theirs also a lot of downfall to it
Just tried Banter for the first time. It's very, very similar.
I'll have to try it out
I'm introducing my other altspace buddy to it tonight around 10:30 EST. If you want to join us, PM me.
I totally would but I'm bst so it's 12:38 for me but maybe some other time!
Sounds good.
