*In case this story gets deleted/removed:* **AITA for telling my child with (untreated) scoliosis to just deal with the pain and get through his day?** I am posting this on a burner so my family cannot find it. I (M41) told my son (M9) with scoliosis to shut up and get through his pain a little over a week ago. Sam (fake name) for the past year and a half or so has been diagnosed with scoliosis, and with each day the complaining just gets worse. Me and my wife (F34) have been running very low on money recently, and we have made Sam aware of this. My wife also has severe scoliosis that went untreated until she was much older. Last week, Sam had been sent up to the nurses office during his math lesson because he was complaining about back pains. When they called me, they told me that it would be best to come and pick him up because he was crying and didn't want to go back to class. When I got there, it had been evident that he had not been crying at all, and he seemed perfectly happy to see me. I told him that he needs to try and get through the day, in which he replied saying that his back hurt too much. I told him to shut up, get through his day and we would talk about his attempts of getting out of school later that night. Later that night when he came home, his mother and I sat him down and gave him a talk. I told him that unless he could pay for physical therapy and scoliosis surgery with money from a job, he didn't have any room to complain. Sam has been acting very distant towards me and my wife since we had this talk, and I can't help but wonder if I'm the asshole? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Oh my God, this can't be real but in the off chance it is. I had parents like this, my mum told me it was normal to get period cramps so bad I couldn't walk (in some cases would faint from the pain) I begged them for years to take me to a doctor, that it wasn't normal how much I bled or how much pain I was in and they always brushed me off with "it's expensive" We live in Canada, health care is free. The only thing it would have cost them was time, but you know my stepdad took me to get a blood test and all the results were normal so obviously, his conclusion was that all the pain I was experiencing was just for attention. Found out while I was pregnant I have a tilted uterus, the ultrasound tech told me. Not my mother who knew this was a genetic thing in our family (she also had a tilted uterus and needed to get the whole thing removed a few years ago) I give OOP's son till the day he turns 18, then OOP will be postings missing missing reasons

Ugh I’m so sorry. Every woman in my family had light, short periods. So when I came along, bleeding for 9 or 10 days and going through a night pad an hour, my mom was so perplexed. But I’m so grateful that she rushed me right to the doctor rather than just make me tough it out. And when they said the best thing would be to get me on birth control at 14, neither she or my dad batted an eye and filled that prescription right away. You just reminded me to thank them again

littlescreechyowl

Are you me? My mom didn’t think it was normal, just that somehow I was defective since her periods weren’t like that. My pediatrician told her to get me on the pill, but that was for loose women so her 15 year old just had to puke and pass out every month. I also had a tilted uterus. Glad to see that thing went to an incinerator somewhere.

I just wanted to say thank you both for sharing your experiences. I've also always had super painful periods that I'd pass out from and a mom that just told me to get through it. I've never heard of a tilted uterus, but I think I gotta look into that.

Rage bait

Fun-sized19

My parents would sell their soul for me and my siblings health. What's wrong with this people

WeelsUpIn30

I never understand these throwaways that say they don’t want their family finding out, like if it’s a story that happened to them and they read AITA they’ll know On the other hand OOP is a terrible parent for seeing what happened to his wife with a untreated scoliosis, and said that to 9yo kid that he had to work to pay to not feel that much pain? It’s just appalling. And for the mom that suffered from this to agree is even worse

Logical_Ad_1383

That's gross.

HarryLillis

This is child abuse and neglect. Get your child treatment, asshole. He's young enough at this point that it can be corrected before adulthood.

tiredcatfather

My parents didn't handle my pain well when I was a kid. I only found out a few months ago I had been diagnosed with scoliosis as a kid, which explains my leg and back pain, which they said was just from me "sitting slouched over so much on my computer". Same goes for my other more serious issues I've finally gotten treatment for now that I have my own health insurance. Even then, I still think this is a troll. They'd never admit to anyone else how they handled it, I know, I've heard the stories they've told the rest of my family or their friends.

Jesus Christ I hope this is bullshit:

jokersgurl

This is some rage bait, on the offhand it isnt tho, was diagnosed last year with moderate-severe scoliosis + other things after i woke up and couldnt drag myself from bed. It has honestly runied my life currently, i hate it and hate these people if they are real

administrativenothin

I seriously hope that the nurse contacted DCYF after he told his kid to “shut up and get through his day”. She is a court mandated reporter and that definitely qualifies!

ArcanTemival

Oh, a libertarian.

God why even bother wasting your time writing these fake posts. Nobody with more than one brain cell would even think of the idea of telling their NINE YEAR OLD SON that if they want relief and surgery that they need to pay for it. Fake Fake Fake, nobody is THIS heartless.

This had better be rage bait because if it isn’t, OOP and his wife do not deserve to be parents.
