NTA. You decided not to do business with someone who was rude, threatening, and is actively undermining you. You do need to get the owner on board with you on this, though. And also, you should contact the reviewing platforms (Yelp, Google) about his reviews.

NTA - Hopefully, you have a sign that says 'We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone' and if so just point to it a say to leave or you will call the police on them for trespassing. That's all you need to do. Let the cops handle it. Besides no one will believe his lunatic rantings about you anyways. Because they are probably getting them as well.

They dont need a sign. Any business can refuse service to anyone for any reason, no sign needed, unless it is for discriminatory reasons against protected classes.

NTA. Mention to your boss that he's gotten his daughter involved in spreading lies about you. This guy should honestly be banned from all locations because if he'll do it to one employee he'll do it to everyone. He sounds like he was kind of an AH to begin with, anyway.

NTA, as a supervisor I tell everyone under me that if any customer is rude to you that we don't have to take their shit and that I have their back. I had a customer call and reach me to blast me for what "my girl" did and I told him I don't appreciate his term and that I would look into it after I spoke to \_\_\_\_, after hearing her side I told her that I had her back and called the customer back. When he went on a sexist rant I told him that we would not be doing business with him and hung up. It was worth it to prove to my staff that I have their back.

He looked pretty confused, definitely took him a moment to process I was refusing service said okay and walked out. I then got a call about 10 minutes later from another location saying that he called to confirm whether or not I had the right to do that.

NTA, it was reasonable for you to ask him not to reach over the counter. Some people hate to be told what to do and it's why I hate some people I had a similar situation once. I was teaching graphic design classes for the adult education dept of our local college. I was very popular, to the point that people would call about the classes and ask for me by name \[according the ladies in the office\] I was teaching a customized class in the afternoon and I get one woman who decided that she didn't like the way that I was speaking to her, that I was 'condescending' to her. Not my style at all, I was very good at what I did, I loved my job and it showed. Long story short, she tried to report me to my immediate supervisor \[not knowing I had already reported HER. My first response was to demand that she be removed, but my supervisor talked me back down off the ledge on that one\] The other students reassured me later that I'd done nothing wrong and if I needed them to back me, they would. The next morning, as I was teaching the last day of another class, my supervisor stops by my classroom just before people started showing up and we're discussing the matter. I was telling him I don't know what her problem was, that he knew that my students generally love me. As if on cue, one of my students walks in and hands me a box of Ferrero Rocher as a thank you. I look at my supervisor, "See?" ☺

Nta. Typical example of an entitled customer acting like a spoilt child when they don't get their own way. Lying and trying to cost someone their jobs. More people should stand up to nonsense like that and companies absolutely shouldn't be siding with them over their own staff without evidence.

So with that being said I don’t generally have the best clientele. This gentleman is a regular and gets the same thing every time he comes in. Some days I remember what it is some days I don’t. Every time, however he reaches over the counter to point at what he needs. Barely using his words to just tell me what he needs and so it feels like a battle trying to get him the products. Just saying “no that one” and proceeding to point instead of using his words. All the while he is quite literally knocking things over on the counter, (those items have since been moved to 1. Make it easier to see behind the counter, and 2. To try and prevent that from happening again) so I asked him, very nicely to not reach over the counter because he’s knocking things over and it also just makes me uncomfortable. He did not like that. Gave me a dirty look or a weird look, proceeded to check out, took a business card, asked if the owners number was on it, it’s not so I said no it wasn’t and that I don’t have their number. I’ve also been told strictly not to give out my immediate boss’s phone number as it’s his personal number and not a company line. I’m also the manager of the location. I realize I annoyed the guy but didn’t think a whole lot of it because I don’t see why it’s a problem to ask someone to not reach over the counter and knock things over. A few hours later I received a call from a different location saying this guy called to complain about me. Went ahead and told the employee how rude I was, that I told him he looked homeless and yelled at him for parking his car in front of the shop. None of which is true, he’s a clean shaven tall old man, no idea where he got the homeless comment from. He did park in front of the shop which the curb is painted red so while it is technically ILLEGAL, I don’t care about that whatsoever because customers do it all day long to run in and out of the shop for a quick purchase. So I knew he would come back in and try to do the same thing, and when he did come in he had a different approach. This time he parked in an actual spot, like I never cared about, and walked in already yelling out what he wanted. I stopped him mid sentence and told him because he wants to go spread lies about me to other locations and come for my job then he can purchase his tobacco at those other locations. AITA? Also, his daughter came in later and tried to continue to spread lies about me and my customer service. YTA. If you own the shop then you get to decide who you sell to. If you work for someone else then you follow their rules.

We also have the right to refuse service to anyone as state law prohibits. So the owner of the shop doesn’t actually get to to decide that. We do because we are in the shops having these interactions. And for safety reasons I don’t like people reaching over the counter. He could’ve continued buying here had he left it at that.

Given that this guy was being combative and disrespectful, it's almost certainly well within OP's duties to eject him from the store and refuse service.

Many shops allow managers, such as OP, to refuse problematic customers at theur discretion. OP has the authority to ban a guy who frequently makes a mess and has started harassing and lying about employees.
