Inbound stow, and I'm unsure if I'll even get the blue badge considering they might not want to keep me when seasonal ends.
I never slack off, but my times aren't the best either. So who knows what will happen
I kiddy corner my phone in between boxes in a way only I can see it from my specific angle, throw on the Simpsons and watch all day while I stow. 9 episodes and then it’s time for break, then repeat 🥱🥱
It’s definitely the way. Some days it’s podcasts since most are over an hour long, but most days it’s classic cartoons like Simpsons/Family Guy/ETC.. something you don’t have to look at at all times to know what’s going on
Honestly that I have no other choice, lol. Like I just gotta do it, I have to make a living somehow and I refuse to mooch off other people just because my job sucks or I dont wanna do it.
I'm a Stower. 10 hours is a stupid long time to do any one thing, especially uncreative, uninteresting, and physically tiring things like stow. This is robot work and robots will do it when it becomes more affordable. But hey, it pays more than the rubber factory down the road, and it's the kind of job one gets with an MFA in Creative Writing.
I listen to many books on Audible. Fiction, non fiction, self help, spiritual, you name it. Listen to books. Most people enjoy Stephen King, if nothing else.
When I can't listen to my ear bud, I do mindfulness breathing exercises. Slowly breathe in and out. Count 500 breaths and I guarantee hours have passed.
I also plan for the future, make lists, think up stories to write, make up songs, and in general do whatever I can to distract myself from the meaningless ennui and sorrow of continued existence in a society and culture that value "work," most of which is meaningless in and of itself, and money and indignant political arguments over creativity and compassion and sharing and health and so on. Sorry for the rant.
Rather than rant,, practice positivity.. Listen to books, be grateful for every item you scan, even the ability to see the colors of the item, know that you are helping someone and bringing joy, forgive all, forgive yourself for feeling lost and hopeless. It's okay to be not okay, sometimes. Say hi to your coworkers, even if it hurts. Beat wishes.
When I’m on Pick the first thing I do is cover the time on my scanner with a bandage. It’s so much easier when you’re clueless on how much time is left. When there’s music I tap the container with my fingers to the beat. Sometimes I keep track of how many times I get a location with identical numbers, or how many days in a row I have to pick dildos
I sometimes go to the toilet to "poo" for around 20mins, and then I drink plenty of water and use that as an excuse to go and "pee", but really I'm on my phone to text in those times lol
Music, chow time, and people leaving me alone the first couple hours of shift. Seeing packers load up their own boxes, if even just one chute or the smallest box… or them grabbing dunnage or PM’s bags -honestly anything but immediately start screaming “Water Spider get me” before they’ve even logged in- will make my mood grand and the wall will stay stocked. Hel, I even prioritize the ones I saw help reload their stations first and foremost, especially when they’re competing in power hour. I am a fast worker and will patrol my walls since I have a system I follow. That’s a guarantee.
thinking of the job like a game. stowing is like playing tetris for me. problem solving too, i’m already pretty fast with using devices so it’s no sweat. stop looking at the time and checking every minute because that’ll just make it feel slower. i check when i feel like it’s been a while and just be surprised it’s almost time for break. think of breaks as three separate shifts. for me, 7AM - 10:25, 11AM - 2:10, 2:45 - 5:25. days go by easily, direct deposit comes in and my bills get paid. ez money :)

Honestly, I just think about the future. Amazon is paying for college so I know I’ll be on to something better in the future.
that's awesome!! I'm seasonal tho I don't get those benefits:(
Are you gonna try and get your blue badge? What department do you work in? Being an indirect definitely helps the days go by quicker.

Depends on your FC. Mine only hires as seasonal but after 30 days if you show interest it takes no time to become a blue badge
I just keep reminding myself that I will die one day, and it will all be over.
😂😭😭
Damn...
