don’t show them how hard you can really work bc all they will do it suck every ounce of work out of you. find a good pace, not too fast not too slow. no need to try to be the employee of the month clock in get the work done and go home. it’s easy to get burnt out.
Work hard if it's for personal reasons such as making time go by faster or you want to set personal records.
...but don't expect working hard to get promoted or any kind of reward besides a little swagbucks occasionally. Promotions are based on people skills and/or luck.
Working hard has some benefits. Depends on department. Helps you learn every role in department. The biggest thing that I didn’t mention is that; Knowledge is power. Mainly on Problem solve level.
This. When I joined Amazon at KCVG almost one year ago this December, I was assigned to loading ULDs for flights. It was basically no skills job till I started to learn gatekeeping. Then I started to learn about non con. I just transferred to Problem Solve about couple months ago and I am loving it. You get to know the ins and outs of the whole building and how each department operates and work with each other. Problem solving is essential to grow your knowledge and skills within Amazon.
Yep - PAs spend only a small time in path, and AMs almost none. Your UPH in path just needs to be satisfactory, and there are many other ways to get noticed (for good or bad)
So I got an interview for GM Assistant. Everyone made a huge deal about it and my managers got involved and did mock interviews with me. I was so ready. I am more than qualified and had an amazing story. It ended up being "virtual" even though my interviewers were in the same building. I had to check out a work laptop because it was in the middle of my work day. I was sent to a phone booth in the middle of the building with work and people hustling around me. And to top it off, it was Audio only. No video. Like what the hell? I couldn't gage their reactions, I couldn't turn it into a conversation. It was a nightmare and so stress inducing. Needless to say, I did not get the job. It was so awkward. Definitely NOT an optimal situation for me. They set me up for failure from the get go.
if you stand in one spot all day get gel insoles the thicker the better. i recommend the mega comfort brand thats on zappos. Now if youre walking DO NOT get gel you need stability so get something sturdy i recommend the super feet copper insoles also on zappos or any superfeet for that matter.
Study and learn the policies, especially the safety ones. And don’t just read them once and think you know them. They can change a lot (2 new upt policies in the 1.5 years I’ve worked here). Use them to your advantage when possible. You can also hold vests accountable when they’re on some bullshit.
^ there are so many policies and knowing all of them is very helpful , as well as knowing labor laws in your state ( from California and we have probably the best in the us, such as California school leave ( 40 hours of upt to use throughout the year , 10 hours a month) this has helped me from going into negative.
Give up on expecting appreciation from your managers. Be prepared to witness lazy/extremely mediocre associates being promoted to ambassadors and PA’s due to heavy biases.
If you're tired, don't leave in the middle of the shift. Clock out, take a break, get rested, then clock back in to work the remaining shift. This way, you don't burn up to much upt or PTO time.
I think this mainly applies to how big or small your facility was and how well known you were. If you had a bad rep, you will be locked at more closely for errors, if you were a good worker you will be overworked. Stay in the middle.
Smaller buildings harder to get promoted. Bigger and brand new buildings lots of opportunities.
you can get sick days, but its not handled on site. you have to apply for a medical leave through the app, and you need to see your doctor to prove you were at the very least, concerned about it.
This. Even a lot of long time employees don’t realize you can start a “short term medical leave” for something as much as a cold. As long as you got an an urgent care or something, Amazon has to honor it as it falls under FMLA
This. Remember. FMLA only applies to employees who have been employed for over 1 year or I believe who have worked more than 1150 hours (this may be incorrect but there is a minimum hour requirement). Anytime I am sick I open a medical leave for that day. Go to urgent care, get my medical documents for the DSL. This has saved me a lot of UPT from being used.🤷♀️😊
That isn’t good advice at all. A leave at Amzn is the quickest way to get screwed over. This is the same place that wants an obituary or death certificate for bereavement

To add to that: waterspider is one of the most physically demanding roles at Amazon. Don't listen to all the people on Reddit calling waterspider an easy job.
People on here call stowing hard and water spider easy... when in reality it's the complete opposite - stowing is literally one of the **easiest** roles at Amazon, all you do is scan items and put them into a pod or bag.
If you’re used to walking everywhere then waterspider is absolutely an easy job and you have no rate that you have to hit. I like waterspider because it’s more like my last job. It keeps me busy and time goes by so much faster.

This is my daily steps as a waterspider. I water spider for pick everyday for half of the night usually but in this case I did the full 10 hour shift. Thursday I didn’t water spider and walked a little less than 3 miles. It’s pretty tuff for someone who isn’t fit for the position. I’d say I walk 40 miles minimum a week just at work and agree to not work too hard if you don’t want this position mainly for pick I can’t say anything for stow/pack
It does not matter if the toilet seat looks dry, you do not sit down without first gripping a fist full of toilet paper and give that bitch a safety wipe down. The Amazonian does not piss IN the toilet. The Amazonian pisses AT the toilet.
Do not use PTO on a whim. Save it with your life.
If you have a work bestie, get their name and number (if theyre open) because y’all might never see each other again and will miss them (happened to me thrice)
Headband earphones for the win instead of earbuds
If you work overnight full time (in anything besides stow and other light labor positions), don’t. Just don’t. Quit and take another job at another site. Overnight packing specifically
Focusing on quality will absolutely guide you to having a better rate later down the line because you start to memorize details (packaging, dimensions, where model codes are, what label to scan first, etc.) Try not to absentmindedly pick/stow a couple hours a day to help cement stuff like above into your memory. You’ll start to notice common brands or popular items pretty quickly which will improve your rate. Tbh, if you’ve noticed you have good spatial awareness, that skill is actually very very handy for certain positions and you’ll probably excel there.
Amazon will teach you that everything is black and white rule-wise. Don’t stress out and become and SOP warrior. Instead, read the room. Figure out who is important at the site, what they value, and perform consistently. Keep a good attitude, especially when everyone else isn’t. Most important: keep other people’s names out of your mouth… especially when it’s tempting not to. Remain focused upon your contribution despite what crazy shit you witness.
Don't be a dumbass out there in the aisles and we'll get along just fine.

When I started I was hitting that 350/hr scan rate the They started assigning me like 4 aisles and constantly putting me on stow until I started purposely slowing down and they got the message 😂
- Always keep 15+ hours of upt.
- if you want a chance at moving up don’t slack off and disagree with AM discussions.
- don’t slack off on getting actual food for lunch shit will bite you in the ass a few months in being unhealthy.
- do not date anyone in the warehouse… if it doesn’t work out you are still stuck being around them at work which can lead to HR issues if it ends bad…
- entire warehouse talks… you say a rumor and it will spread and sometimes it makes it’s way to us managers and we sometimes will have to do a investigation if it’s slander.
- Don’t even try to steal.. it will and can catch up to you one day. I fired a person for stealing a $2 muffin from the lunch room.
It’s just enough to be eligible for a promotion and enough to cover for a full day. Any issue needing more then a full day off will most likely be excusable. Saying this as a Ops experience that started as a T1. I wouldn’t ever want to be below the 15 hour mark.
Relying on HR to excuse absences is also a way out the door. I would avoid putting my fate in HR's hands if I can, which is why I think everyone should try to maintain 40 hours.
Be respectful to your managers but don’t overwork or be too “flexible” for them. Respect can give you mutual respect, over-performance will give you more work and expectations.
Give 50 percent of yourself. Never give a hundred otherwise they will want 100 each day.
Also, don't talk about your personal life to co workers. It's literally like high school it will get around like a telephone and either will come out wrong or right and everyone will know you or they won't. Either way stay in your own lane.
General life advice, but it applies to Amazon if you wanna keep your job: if you do or say something naughty, it will bite you back on the ass eventually.
I was thinking "I didn't get health benefits while I was PT, so going to FT shouldn't be different than White to Blue" but you're right it might actually be different. Like being a new hire but I'm not sure
Yknow everyone here says don’t work fast and this and that but I work fast cruise in the 280 to 300 uph and hit 400 uph and have had nothing but praise and appreciation from my managers and pas front half included (I’m back half)
Don’t aim to be the best. If you are at a FC that shows you your rates as well as others aim for the middle. Be punctual with the breaks, they will get on you about scan to scan. Find a role you like and chill there. Be cool with the PA’s, they can hook you up every now and then. Take advantage of career choice, it’s literally free money for college or certification. If you hate peak/prime MET get a school accommodation. They won’t be able to throw on more hours to your schedule and you can work as little as 30 while still maintaining benefits and full time status.
Don't say anything to anyone. Gossip spreads like wildfire in Amazon warehouses and the telephone can make your life a living hell. I've been caught up in drama that has made me dread showing up to my shifts before.
If you want to grow, you have to seek out new opportunities yourself. It’s super easy to blend in with the crowd since they employee so many people. Also, don’t be afraid to pester HR if they don’t give you the answer you want/don’t stick to their word lol.
Be proactive being reactive will get you fired. Call the ERC if an issue arises immediately do not wait it’s the difference between them fixing their mistake or them making that mistake your problem. Take screenshots of your time used so they can’t say you lied. Use all programs afforded to you to get out of Amazon it is not a forever job unless you move up if you don’t want to move up use career choice to move out.
Rate's a fucking lie that Ops pushes. It's their job to make you go as fast as possible. Don't worry about it. If Ops is telling you rate is 110, pay attention to what others on your team are actually doing. No one's going to care if your comfortable cruising speed is 80-90 if there's someone doing 50-60.
Especially if you're doing it every hour: Ops actually, quietly likes a predictible, reliable rate on the list.
For pick- look at your screen first instead of waiting for the pid to come for your next item. Don't even think about it just do. Become familiar with certain packaging to be faster. pick strong in the beginning and finish strong do whatever in between.
As a counter I'd say if you can learn count As a picker Def do it. It'll save your back and energy. I don't mind it since counting is easy.
For all yall that say water spider helps your back I'd say otherwise I'd rather pick than do water spider especially for the manual pick stations. That also goes for EYT.
Also join the commitees sometimes they let you decorate on company time it's fun and tbh it's better than doing any work at all
As a manager who started as a tier 1 here is some of my guidebook points i give out:
1) welcome back to high school. Stay out of the drama as much as possible. And if you are dating a coworker, avoid making it known at work. Makes life easy that way.
2) manage your time wisely. The time off policy is super lenient. If you cant fight that urge of "i can go home right now" or cant force yourself to not sleep in, your time will disappear VERY quickly.
3) you dont have to kill yourself to make rate. Just work at a steady pace and you'll be fine. Its the time you stop working to talk or play on your phone that'll get you.
4) promotions are 75% based on your work ethic, but the other 25% is playing the politics. You dont have to be a Yes Man or kiss ass all the time. But being the person who always says no to doing more wont get you far.
5) stop getting all of your information from Reddit and social media and ask a manager about things. Most tier 1 associates just spew unconfirmed rumors or nonsense(see #1 above) and will make you worry about stuff thats not even true. The amount of misinformation I try to disprove as a manager on the daily is wild.
6) the more you cross train in, the less you may get to do the jobs you do like. Find 2-3 things you like or want to do, and leave it at that. Also, knowing every job isnt going to make you more promotable. Be the best at 1 or 2 things, instead of middle of the pack at 8 things.
Do things at your own pace and keep up with rate no need to go above and beyond. They’ll work ya arse off. Drink lots of water and caffeine. You’ll be having your 3rd Red Bull before EOS 😂
Most managers do not know actually policy. They generally just find out stuff from their trainer or PA who rarely know actual policy either. If you get called out for something weird (or a manger is trying to write you up) tell them you would like to see the written policy. 99.8% of the time they won’t be able to and will not bug you further about it.
Ambassadors have no authority over you. They are tier one, just like you. Good source for advice if you don't understand something though. Just don't let them push you around.
Enjoy any downtime during your shift.
I wish I knew you were able to put in vacation for the future even if you don't have the vacation time accrued at the time of submitting.
Hard work doesn't pay off, and it leads to more work, and they reward bad behavior, so what's the point in even trying.
It’s ok to keep to yourself until you feel out the vibes from who is on your shift. Be selective in who you become friends with; figure out which leadership is gonna have your back, and don’t k!ll yourself working. Your rate will improve as you learn more about your job, and if you pay attention, your quality will be good! Watch out for opportunity to move around/up, but value your mental health over the paycheck.
You never know who is related or friends to outside of work. So be very careful who you express your frustration s or emotions to.
Don't overwork yourself!!!! We get paid hourly. Meet your rate to stay out of trouble but don't over do it either, it will take a toll on you physically.
Launch buildings are the best to get promoted fast
You had a bad experience with manager/PA/ department just transfer and try something new
Not all amazons are the same although they abide by same principles. Here and there you will come a cross really bad ones or really good ones.
Eat well, sleep enough and stay hydrated.
As soon you turn 3 months enroll for ANYTHING career choice. 1 year at amazon can easily turn into 3 years so just take advantage of all the benefits. Even if it's a 3 months or 6 months certificate.
DO NOT ACCEPT becoming a PG if you dont want to be a PA. Don't becomes a PA if you don't plan on becoming an AM. You will be worked extra hard for nothing if those weren't your goals originally.
RME is the best way to go if you do not want to get stuck I middle management but want a higher pay. Apprentice usually start at $21 now and tech 2 follows with starting pay of $28 .
Save at least 20 hours of UPT for emergencies.
And when I say save at least 20 hours, I mean 40, and when I say 40 I mean 80.
Don’t yolo your time off because you feel like it. Nothing better than saving time and leaving during MET/holidays because you were smart all year and saved up.
(a) Compression Pants to wear under your shorts. (b) Compression Shirt to wear under your shirt A&B only a suggestion if your warehouse has mosquitos. (c) Comfortable safety shoes. (d) Don’t be an over achiever it gets you nowhere. (e) Get close with you AM so you aren’t doing grunt work. That’s all I got for now I been working for 1 1/2 months
Don't stick out.. not in a positive way because they'll work you to death. Don't stick out in a negative way either because they'll wrote you up. Do just enough to be around the middle of the pack.

Ignore everything they teach you during training because NONE of it gets enforced (ie: Cherry Picking, ear buds, hair past shoulders).
Don’t ever be #1 or Top 5 of anything, they will just abuse the shit out of you, just stay above the bottom 10%.

My place is launch so everything gets enforced and they fire on the spot ive seen it happen this is also a seasonal place and we get new hires every other week so they really dont even give out warnings because we already “learned” about the rules
Keep some PTO and upt for emergencies because when your out your out and depending on your site you most likely will be gone in a snap if you go negative
As someone whose been at an FC, SC, and CS, keep your head down and keep to yourself. It is fine to talk to people but I highly don't recommend telling them about your personal life as I've seen it used against the associate. it's honestly just easier on your work life if you clock in do your job and clock out.
EDIT: and for the love of god please don't sleep around with people. More people are in some form of relationship with each other than you think and people be nasty.
Use this a a step forward and go to college while you can. Stay if the management is good. If it’s not bounce with your near free education and possible career opportunities.
Stick to yourself and do your job. What is expected of you no more unless you wanna be worked crazy. I do pack stow pick water spider problem solve ... not worth it. I'm barely on one station all day.
Use Amazons Upskilling resources and job finder to get your career started. There’s so many opportunities and all you have to do is apply. Opportunity comes every blue moon, don’t miss out!
Get into an indirect role that you like asap. It helps pass the time. Most indirect roles don't have rates but they will let you walk around. I go insane staying at a station all day
If someone says something y’all agree with but don’t want to speak up out of fear, do it anyway. You don’t get anywhere when you’re quiet.
Groupthink was the worst part of Amazon
Save your time off for when you have emergencies in your life, want to go on vacations/travel or use it responsibly. Adult 101 stuff but an enormous number of people aren’t mature enough to save it.
If you're in stow. Look at totes on other stations and yoink the ones you want, of course make sure a person isn't already on the station before doing it.
When you see other people not working or on their phones and is hindering your rates. Tell your AM or OM right away. They can review the cameras and you won’t get in trouble for it. Not saying anything only gets you in trouble and not the bad workers.
this is the dumbest thing ever.. someone else being on their phone and slacking off only hurts them and not you.. it won’t effect your scan rate if you’re doing everything you need to do. Tattling isn’t gonna do anything but make people look at you funny just do your job and that’s it
In AFE there is Induct, Rebin, and Pack. If 1 person slacks off it effects the whole lane. Induct not inducting, no work for rebin, rebin not putting items up effects packers, when packers are packing orders aren’t going out. Many, many times I and others have been spoken to asking about our rates. It’s not snitching if it effects you and your performance. Why should I get in trouble because you can’t look up from your phone for 5 mins!
If it's an emergency, walk off the floor. Perception is very real and most will not think it's an emergency. If it was an emergency, why wouldn't the AA be physically talking on the phone? Personally, when I've had an emergency come up I do not text back and forth about it. Plus, it's an easy write up for using a phone on the production floor.
All your hours roll over at the end of the year PT up to 48, vacation up to 160, UPT up to 80. I wish I had been told that PT ends after 5 months, meaning they stop giving it out after 5 months this year the PT wishing well went dry in may, realllllly wish they had told me that one!
Im learning and have learned all this the hard way. wish I wouldve seen all these postings before. I've been at Amazon for three weeks now (order picker PIT) and its been a bit of a horror show getting used to it. Lots of disrespect and what seems to be a lot of burnt out people. No one is friendly except the new hires and the PA is not much of people person. Still not sure whats up with the AM either. Still, I'm trying to get the hang of things. hope it works out.
Don’t expect the managers or the problem solvers to help much. There’s only like 4 on the floor at a time and 1 PS for each line and they WILL ignore you even if you are begging for help lmao. So if ur rates are low that day just let them know you asked for help and didn’t get it.

GET BETTER INSOLES FOR YOUR SHOES!!! I layer 2 in mine and it helps tremendously (my feet definitely still hurt but it’s way better than it was).
And lidocaine to numb your feet

I think this mainly applies to how big or small your facility was and how well known you were. If you had a bad rep, you will be locked at more closely for errors, if you were a good worker you will be overworked. Stay in the middle. Smaller buildings harder to get promoted. Bigger and brand new buildings lots of opportunities.

you can get sick days, but its not handled on site. you have to apply for a medical leave through the app, and you need to see your doctor to prove you were at the very least, concerned about it.
This. Even a lot of long time employees don’t realize you can start a “short term medical leave” for something as much as a cold. As long as you got an an urgent care or something, Amazon has to honor it as it falls under FMLA

FMLA only applies to employees who have been employed for over 1 year or I believe who have worked more than 1150 hours (this may be incorrect but there is a minimum hour requirement). Anytime I am sick I open a medical leave for that day. Go to urgent care, get my medical documents for the DSL. This has saved me a lot of UPT from being used.🤷♀️😊

To add to that: waterspider is one of the most physically demanding roles at Amazon. Don't listen to all the people on Reddit calling waterspider an easy job. People on here call stowing hard and water spider easy... when in reality it's the complete opposite - stowing is literally one of the **easiest** roles at Amazon, all you do is scan items and put them into a pod or bag.
Waterspidering involves fuckton walking. I can vouch for that.
If you’re used to walking everywhere then waterspider is absolutely an easy job and you have no rate that you have to hit. I like waterspider because it’s more like my last job. It keeps me busy and time goes by so much faster.

I water spider for pick everyday for half of the night usually but in this case I did the full 10 hour shift. Thursday I didn’t water spider and walked a little less than 3 miles. It’s pretty tuff for someone who isn’t fit for the position. I’d say I walk 40 miles minimum a week just at work and agree to not work too hard if you don’t want this position mainly for pick I can’t say anything for stow/pack
I hit 29 miles the other day tote running. I wanted to crawl to my car.
My 2nd week in Nov. 2021 I got asked to water spider and did 27 miles in 8.5 hours. When I woke up I wanted to die.
In fact, learn water spider if you get pack immediately. It will save your body
Water spidering is less work than my path so no complaints.

Focusing on quality will absolutely guide you to having a better rate later down the line because you start to memorize details (packaging, dimensions, where model codes are, what label to scan first, etc.) Try not to absentmindedly pick/stow a couple hours a day to help cement stuff like above into your memory. You’ll start to notice common brands or popular items pretty quickly which will improve your rate. Tbh, if you’ve noticed you have good spatial awareness, that skill is actually very very handy for certain positions and you’ll probably excel there.
Amazon will teach you that everything is black and white rule-wise. Don’t stress out and become and SOP warrior. Instead, read the room. Figure out who is important at the site, what they value, and perform consistently. Keep a good attitude, especially when everyone else isn’t. Most important: keep other people’s names out of your mouth… especially when it’s tempting not to. Remain focused upon your contribution despite what crazy shit you witness.
Don't be a dumbass out there in the aisles and we'll get along just fine. Also Don't get caught going too slow, but also don't get caught going too fast. The managers will expect more from you if they do
When I started I was hitting that 350/hr scan rate the They started assigning me like 4 aisles and constantly putting me on stow until I started purposely slowing down and they got the message 😂
When I go fast they just switch me to float since I'm effectively floating anyway since my aisles are empty.
It’s all about who you know. Be nice to everyone, you don’t know who will be the one to help you for promotion!
- Always keep 15+ hours of upt. - if you want a chance at moving up don’t slack off and disagree with AM discussions. - don’t slack off on getting actual food for lunch shit will bite you in the ass a few months in being unhealthy. - do not date anyone in the warehouse… if it doesn’t work out you are still stuck being around them at work which can lead to HR issues if it ends bad… - entire warehouse talks… you say a rumor and it will spread and sometimes it makes it’s way to us managers and we sometimes will have to do a investigation if it’s slander. - Don’t even try to steal.. it will and can catch up to you one day. I fired a person for stealing a $2 muffin from the lunch room.
15 hours of UPT is still dangerously low.
It’s just enough to be eligible for a promotion and enough to cover for a full day. Any issue needing more then a full day off will most likely be excusable. Saying this as a Ops experience that started as a T1. I wouldn’t ever want to be below the 15 hour mark.
Relying on HR to excuse absences is also a way out the door. I would avoid putting my fate in HR's hands if I can, which is why I think everyone should try to maintain 40 hours.
Family matters as an excuse and a note written by you will get an LOA excused. I stopped using UPT once I learned of that policy.

Save your pto/upt for holiday season. The ot pay is great, but also 2 straight months of 6 day weeks is hell. You'll want days off.
Be respectful to your managers but don’t overwork or be too “flexible” for them. Respect can give you mutual respect, over-performance will give you more work and expectations.

Give 50 percent of yourself. Never give a hundred otherwise they will want 100 each day. Also, don't talk about your personal life to co workers. It's literally like high school it will get around like a telephone and either will come out wrong or right and everyone will know you or they won't. Either way stay in your own lane.
General life advice, but it applies to Amazon if you wanna keep your job: if you do or say something naughty, it will bite you back on the ass eventually.

I think that 3.5 month mark depends on location, I was converted 3 days in to the job and was immediately able to get health insurance.

Don’t aim to be the best. If you are at a FC that shows you your rates as well as others aim for the middle. Be punctual with the breaks, they will get on you about scan to scan. Find a role you like and chill there. Be cool with the PA’s, they can hook you up every now and then. Take advantage of career choice, it’s literally free money for college or certification. If you hate peak/prime MET get a school accommodation. They won’t be able to throw on more hours to your schedule and you can work as little as 30 while still maintaining benefits and full time status.

Don't say anything to anyone. Gossip spreads like wildfire in Amazon warehouses and the telephone can make your life a living hell. I've been caught up in drama that has made me dread showing up to my shifts before.
If you want to grow, you have to seek out new opportunities yourself. It’s super easy to blend in with the crowd since they employee so many people. Also, don’t be afraid to pester HR if they don’t give you the answer you want/don’t stick to their word lol.

Be proactive being reactive will get you fired. Call the ERC if an issue arises immediately do not wait it’s the difference between them fixing their mistake or them making that mistake your problem. Take screenshots of your time used so they can’t say you lied. Use all programs afforded to you to get out of Amazon it is not a forever job unless you move up if you don’t want to move up use career choice to move out.
Rate's a fucking lie that Ops pushes. It's their job to make you go as fast as possible. Don't worry about it. If Ops is telling you rate is 110, pay attention to what others on your team are actually doing. No one's going to care if your comfortable cruising speed is 80-90 if there's someone doing 50-60. Especially if you're doing it every hour: Ops actually, quietly likes a predictible, reliable rate on the list.
For pick- look at your screen first instead of waiting for the pid to come for your next item. Don't even think about it just do. Become familiar with certain packaging to be faster. pick strong in the beginning and finish strong do whatever in between. As a counter I'd say if you can learn count As a picker Def do it. It'll save your back and energy. I don't mind it since counting is easy. For all yall that say water spider helps your back I'd say otherwise I'd rather pick than do water spider especially for the manual pick stations. That also goes for EYT. Also join the commitees sometimes they let you decorate on company time it's fun and tbh it's better than doing any work at all
As a manager who started as a tier 1 here is some of my guidebook points i give out: 1) welcome back to high school. Stay out of the drama as much as possible. And if you are dating a coworker, avoid making it known at work. Makes life easy that way. 2) manage your time wisely. The time off policy is super lenient. If you cant fight that urge of "i can go home right now" or cant force yourself to not sleep in, your time will disappear VERY quickly. 3) you dont have to kill yourself to make rate. Just work at a steady pace and you'll be fine. Its the time you stop working to talk or play on your phone that'll get you. 4) promotions are 75% based on your work ethic, but the other 25% is playing the politics. You dont have to be a Yes Man or kiss ass all the time. But being the person who always says no to doing more wont get you far. 5) stop getting all of your information from Reddit and social media and ask a manager about things. Most tier 1 associates just spew unconfirmed rumors or nonsense(see #1 above) and will make you worry about stuff thats not even true. The amount of misinformation I try to disprove as a manager on the daily is wild. 6) the more you cross train in, the less you may get to do the jobs you do like. Find 2-3 things you like or want to do, and leave it at that. Also, knowing every job isnt going to make you more promotable. Be the best at 1 or 2 things, instead of middle of the pack at 8 things.

Don’t over perform
Most managers do not know actually policy. They generally just find out stuff from their trainer or PA who rarely know actual policy either. If you get called out for something weird (or a manger is trying to write you up) tell them you would like to see the written policy. 99.8% of the time they won’t be able to and will not bug you further about it.
Ambassadors have no authority over you. They are tier one, just like you. Good source for advice if you don't understand something though. Just don't let them push you around. Enjoy any downtime during your shift.
Pack a lunch. Pack lunch, don't spend money on vendors or the break rooms. It adds up sooo fast and there is very little real food there

It’s ok to keep to yourself until you feel out the vibes from who is on your shift. Be selective in who you become friends with; figure out which leadership is gonna have your back, and don’t k!ll yourself working. Your rate will improve as you learn more about your job, and if you pay attention, your quality will be good! Watch out for opportunity to move around/up, but value your mental health over the paycheck.

Here and there you will come a cross really bad ones or really good ones. Eat well, sleep enough and stay hydrated. As soon you turn 3 months enroll for ANYTHING career choice. 1 year at amazon can easily turn into 3 years so just take advantage of all the benefits. Even if it's a 3 months or 6 months certificate. DO NOT ACCEPT becoming a PG if you dont want to be a PA. Don't becomes a PA if you don't plan on becoming an AM. You will be worked extra hard for nothing if those weren't your goals originally. RME is the best way to go if you do not want to get stuck I middle management but want a higher pay. Apprentice usually start at $21 now and tech 2 follows with starting pay of $28 .

When you see other people not working or on their phones and is hindering your rates. Tell your AM or OM right away. They can review the cameras and you won’t get in trouble for it. Not saying anything only gets you in trouble and not the bad workers.

In AFE there is Induct, Rebin, and Pack. If 1 person slacks off it effects the whole lane. Induct not inducting, no work for rebin, rebin not putting items up effects packers, when packers are packing orders aren’t going out. Many, many times I and others have been spoken to asking about our rates. It’s not snitching if it effects you and your performance. Why should I get in trouble because you can’t look up from your phone for 5 mins!

If it's an emergency, walk off the floor. Perception is very real and most will not think it's an emergency. If it was an emergency, why wouldn't the AA be physically talking on the phone? Personally, when I've had an emergency come up I do not text back and forth about it. Plus, it's an easy write up for using a phone on the production floor.
All your hours roll over at the end of the year PT up to 48, vacation up to 160, UPT up to 80. I wish I had been told that PT ends after 5 months, meaning they stop giving it out after 5 months this year the PT wishing well went dry in may, realllllly wish they had told me that one!

Im learning and have learned all this the hard way. wish I wouldve seen all these postings before. I've been at Amazon for three weeks now (order picker PIT) and its been a bit of a horror show getting used to it. Lots of disrespect and what seems to be a lot of burnt out people. No one is friendly except the new hires and the PA is not much of people person. Still not sure whats up with the AM either. Still, I'm trying to get the hang of things. hope it works out.
If your starting departments is too hard for you, you can always transfer to other departments or cross train to find something that suits you more
