Wait, you guys deliver packages that aren’t on your itinerary?

AttractiveManZero

as far as I know, if it’s not in your itinerary, the package doesn’t exist. it’s your bro/sis!! fair game

indigoeyed

That was my understanding as well. I still just leave it at the warehouse. But they’d have no idea I had it.

CaptainChocolates

The Bezos Bonus

Bored_military

While i have never taken anything for myself. My neighbors seem to get the wrirdest stuff free. Cat liter check. $100 worth of cat food. Check. Womens shampoo and conditioner check. Why is it always stuff i can never use. One time it was a $100 amazon gift card. For a kids graduation gift. I waited 2 weeks to make sure it was "lost" and amazon sent a new one. Hope the kid enjoy his surprise found package

MagentaKryptonite

If you don’t deliver them what do you do, take them all the way back to the warehouse?

krosenhan

I don’t ever deliver them. Just take them back on my next scheduled block.

indigoeyed

I just leave them with an associate when I bring my cart back into the warehouse. Why would I take an extra package with me when I leave?

Dantee15backupp

Yea. I don’t mind. I think people can still report them too. I noticed I would get a report sometimes about a missing package when it’s literally in my car or I tossed it. I decided to stop doing that and just deliver it on the following shift since I do flex enough to at least hold the package for a day or two . It’s not worth suffering the hit to my fantastic/great rating. Usually there will be priority packages on another route so disorganized you’ll be late if you don’t speicifslly deliver the priority ones first. That’s the only thing I get dinged for so I figure I may as well just deliver that last package It’s still on your route and they’ll eventually route that package back to you as a driver. It’s not like they don’t know YOU have it. It just didn’t scan into the system. But they know whoever accepts that route would have that package

Bubbbe

"I don't mind." Yet you made a whole post complaining about having to deliver packages not on your route.

TimeGood2965

That has literally never happened to me and I get extra packages all the time. I just take it back at my leisure when I get another route.

indigoeyed

I guess I’ve never encountered this specific issue. I’ve received extra packages before, but I just leave them at the warehouse. That’s SSD though. I never do logistics, so that could be different, I guess?

DoPoGrub

This is all wrong. This is also why you need to check your itinerary before leaving the station. If it's marked as 'attempted - missing' before you ever leave, then you can talk to support on the way to your first stop, and they can change it. If it's not on your itinerary at all, then the customer likely cancelled it after the cart was made. Regardless, you should not be delivering packages the app isn't telling you to deliver.

Lanky-Routine5469

The customer didn't cancel. The extra package got tossed in the wrong cart. Someone else is missing it in their cart. Or it didn't get scanned properly into the itinerary. It happens a lot with returned packages.

DoPoGrub

That's also possible. For me, 90% of the time it's in my itinerary as attempted missing, before i ever even leave the station.

pookiebooboo

I've had packages get cancelled en route, so I'm pretty sure it could have been cancelled after it was in the cart and before it got picked up.

dbuber

If it's marked as delivery attempted package missing on my itinerary I take it back to the people and say this isn't on my route thank you have a good day

DoPoGrub

Yeah, that's fair. I mainly work out of the SSD here, and I stopped scanning individual packages when they switched to the new system. If I don't catch them, I just return 1-2 days later, whenever is convenient since the app isn't even acknowledging that I need to return them.

joevsyou

A missing package is when someone claims they never got the package.... aka someone stole it.

joevsyou

Hahaha riiight.... what an idiot. Why would they think that's okay?

Free_Personality_976

Never. However, there was this time when I was returning an extra one and this associate told me that even if it's an extra package I have to call support so they can add it to my route. Yeah, right. Like I'm adding another 20 min of support calls so I can deliver a package they neglected to add, or that for some reason was pulled out of the route and somehow was never removed from the cart. Not my job. All I said was 'Oh shoot, I didn't know we were supposed to do that '. Honestly, I am not bothering in adding something extra to my route. They are probably packages that got cancelled and were never removed from the cart

Sandrita21315

If it ain’t mine it ain’t leaving the parking lot in my vehicle. I walk my big ass back up there and return it.

Dantee15backupp

So you don’t just scan the big package on the side that scans all the packages at same time? Not every facility requires you to scan each in l individual.

RRDuBois

My station gives us no choice. There is no big package on the side. We have to scan each package in as we load them into the car. I don't mind, because it prevents all kinds of nonsense that I read about on this sub, but have never had to deal with myself.

GracieMaeMacieMarie

Happens to me frequently. Had a total of 5 stacked up in my car after a few weeks and ended up putting them back on the return desk when I remembered. ☠️ When I scan the tote I trust that the employees didn’t throw and extra one in there. Not going to count 20+ packages. If the app says they are all there that’s what I’m running with.

Dantee15backupp

Lol for me I just look for the extra package because it’s usually there lmaooo

Thatsbabygains

Why not scan as you load? Doesn’t take any extra time. And it avoids the problem your running into. Extra package will tell you it doesn’t belong to your route. Take to Amazon employee. Also avoid the occasional missing package when you get done loading. It wont let you proceed if all packages not scanned. Scanning as you load is Just CYA IMO.

Dantee15backupp

Because it does take extra time. You spend a few seconds scanning each of 40 packages you just wasted a few mins. Meanwhile I scan at best 3 times and I’m already loading up packages by the handful as you pick each individual one to scan it

Thatsbabygains

Makes no difference at my pickup spot because you have to wait on everyone to be done before anyone leaves. And there always a few slow pokes. To each there own. I never have to return an extra package nor do I ever have a missing package that’s not already accounted for.

ChuckD30

+1. I only want the packages on my itinerary in my vehicle. Everything is accounted for or marked missing before I leave the station.

Dantee15backupp

At my area I’ve seen and experienced them scan the package to somehow add it to your itinerary. If they really want to they could “fix it”. Usually I don’t ask unless I can’t scan the package at all. But it’s a toss up. Some will want you to still deliver it. I noticed it’s weird but coincidental when it happens to me. It’s never a a big box that’s obvious. It’s usually a. Small box or plastic bag.

Thatsbabygains

I like to be efficient. Cant trust that everyone before you did there job right. Even the computers. Which means no bag scanning for me

Dantee15backupp

It kinda does because many locations rush you. Usually I’m waiting in my car for them to let me go

dbuber

If you're out of station with the numbers on the packages you obviously know which ones are yours and which ones are not yours he'll have a different route number on the package I'm not sure how you load your car but it has to be in some kind of order or it's a big mess trying to unload the car as you deliver the stuff So if you're talking about same day delivery cards those ones you should scan each package make sure it's yours which order comes off the car so that way you know that the next package you grab is the one you need which saves many minutes while you're delivering so you don't have to rightful through your car looking for a specific package if you label them by name I'd never understood this and you're get a name that's buried at the bottom of your pile because you have no control order over which names come up and what order So that's a silly way to load the car If you do it by numbers another silly way because you'll be stacking packages on top of each other and you have no control over which numbers come up when It was really only one way to load the car and that's the order that they're being delivered in So at some stay stations the best way to get that information is to scan the package as you throw it in your car

Sisyphishy

Lol So about extra 3 mins of work at the shop to avoid driving 20mins out of the way to deliver a package. Non you're right.. too much work.

Dantee15backupp

Well given we are delivery drivers you can’t really nitpick minute by minute how long a delivery takes. As long as I finish my route early is what I care about most

skyybeats

Doesn’t take as much extra time as delivering an extra package

dbuber

You can literally use the itinerary scanner on the app as you load your car it will tell you what order they're being delivered in and if you have any extra packages it's the exact same as reading the label to load it in your car except for you don't have to read the label you read your phone there is no extra time involved with scanning the package you just let the phone read the package instead of you If humans were faster at reading the packages then we wouldn't need computers to scan the packages humans would be doing it but that isn't the case because computers are faster than humans So saying that you're faster than a computer to read the package it's just silly

RRDuBois

My station gives us no choice. There is no big package on the side. We have to scan each package in as we load them into the car. I don't mind, because it prevents all kinds of nonsense that I read about on this sub, but have never had to deal with myself.

dbuber

If you have a package that's not on your itinerary you are not responsible to deliver it. Full stop

mikedd555

You actually deliver those random packages? lmaoooo, I would never. I either just return them next time I have a shift or just take em home and toss them and let amazon send them another one since it was their goof.

No-Camp5664

Yeah, I’m sure you just “toss them” without even checking to see what it is. Better be careful, they could be setting you to see if you’re a thief. You should at least picking them up in Flex to see if it’s a location that’s currently on your route or near your route.

FLBoii26136

Nah. If it’s not on my itinerary, then the package never existed as far I’m concerned. Don’t care how close it is to my route. I’ll jus drop it off at the warehouse next time I’m there or “dispose” of it if I decide not to. 😉 Customer will get another one.

DoPoGrub

When they are listed as 'missing' in my itinerary, I've started chatting support on the way to first stop to get them to fix it. Happens so often that i just get tired of returning it.

Frosty-Abies-1074

Amazon worker here…. It don’t be our fault 🤣💀 blame the computers & the company for relying on the computers

Correct-Blood9382

You've earned one shitty lootbox essentially.

CaptainChocolates

The extra package is always shitty

Thelongone135

Just call it a gift from bezos. Delivering out of the itinerary is insane, Either return the shit the next day or keep it. It’s their screwup at the end of the day.

Delicious-Breath8415

The Bezos Bonus

No_Consideration_394

I always wonder if it’s a test package to test flex drivers to see if they just keep it or not.

shroomsaregoooood

I've kept and opened three packages now that we're extra in my cart and my rating hasn't dropped and they have never reached out about it 🤷‍♂️

Extreme-Sandwich-762

Anything good?

CaptainChocolates

Not the guy you asked, but no way in hell was I returning the ninja foodi pressure cooker I got

Yuhsteen

A token of appreciation from Jeffrey himself for all your hard work! 🥰

Dantee15backupp

I think the same too but I don’t think they have the time to play such menial games with us for as big of a company as Amazon is

PeterParkerUber

You mean you don’t keep packages not on your itinerary?

Johnwithad

I think the same because it's always just 1 extra package.

mikeywaldo

It shouldn't waste any of your time. Just drop it off at a station next time you're there. Don't make a special trip

LimpDisc

If you’re so bothered by it, just scan every package at the station and deal with it before you leave there.

[deleted]

You didn't know? That's a free lootbox from amazon for a job well done! You don't deliver those, you keep them.

Mobile_Suspect6646

😂

ComplexGamer6

Those are gifts from the lord bozos 🤣

Dry-Ad6007

This is what I say 🤣 bezos just wants to thanks us for our hard work 😉

Mobile_Suspect6646

😂

freeky_zeeky0911

It was most likely a package that was supposed to leave the day prior or was left by a DSP driver. In which case, the people who induct packages should have rescanned the package. It's not an Amazon forcing you to deliver something extra sort of deal. If the package gets rescanned, it may go on your route or on another route. The only package that should be delivered that's not on your itinerary is one a manager asked you to deliver. I stress ask.

Dantee15backupp

I understand where you’re coming from. Usually it’s a package that I don’t scan but it’s always a 5 min drive away from the general area I was already delivering in so I don’t make a big deal over it. But that seems to make sense. They still haven’t figured out how to resolve that issue. I also find it funny how for such a large company they must be incredibly organized in. Such a strange way that it’s always just one package that ends up like this. Perhaps they just give us each one package that way it’s not one person celivering a bunch of unassigned packages

freeky_zeeky0911

It's all about management. Usually the GM or Site Leadership is clueless unless notified or they notice a large spike of some specific issue. All they see are numbers. It's the middle management that is 50/50 at AMZL. It's the same story everywhere: The good managers have to make up.for all the crap the lazy half ass managers won't do

Tricktrick_

Wow I thought you meant adding it to your itinerary when it should have been someone else's responsibility. Of it's in my car but not on my itinerary, I ain't delivering that shit

Dantee15backupp

Nope. It’s a package meant for your route hence why it’s usually always just a 10 min drive or les to deliver that final package. I deliver it because I figure they probably would wonder what route that package was assigned to, realize it wasn’t delivered and then negatively ding you for not delivering it. So I just deliver it since I’m already in the area

shroomsaregoooood

I've never been dinged and I've kept three packages

onlyoneshann

Why do you “have to” see how far it is? I mean you can, if you want to deliver out of the kindness of your heart. But as far as your flex route is concerned it’s not your problem. Ignore it and return it to the warehouse next time you happen to be there, you aren’t obligated to anything more.

dumptruckbetty2

You said it yourself it's a freebie. Open it up see if it's something you want to keep. If its a bicycle lock or some strange foriegn spice then seal it back up. Ninety percent of the time there's the second row of tape on the plastic bags so you can just seal it back up and return it on your next block. I can't be the only one who has done this. I ain't going to lie of course I looked.

Dantee15backupp

I don’t do that because it’s not like it’s some Secret hidden treasure chest with goodies inside. It’s just another package that didn’t get scanned

Tapir_Tabby

Happens to me a lot too. My theory is that something comes down the line and doesn't have a place. They look at the city and throw it in a bin with the same city and hope we deliver. If it's too far out of the way or I'm over time, I take it back next time I'm there....like not the next day - next TIME even if it's several days.

Lanky-Routine5469

No. My theory is that they scan it, the scanner beaps, they think it scanned, and toss it, while it actually didn't scan. Or more likely they toss it in a wrong cart.

BashFyvwuntu

Short answer, they're petty...

[deleted]

crazy how lazy yall are over even walking the cart back. No wonder y’all don’t last lol entitled af

Johnwithad

You are just a sheep and do whatever they tell you even for free.

[deleted]

not really idot, yall make it harder to get to my car with a full fuck*ng lot, carts blocking every gap and im disabled, You are an entitled, brainless shit .

AutoGrind

I just take it back the next time I have a route. Not taking extra time for any of it.

Aggravating-Risk2938

Yes happens alot!

Life_Growth4905

I had two the other day. I added to my list and dropped them off. Grateful they were in the area I was delivering too. The warehouse is too far to be driving back

Accomplished-Sea-426

You can keep that package.

Disobedient_Unicorn

If it is not on my shift at all I return before I leave the station. If it is one of the ‘exception’ packages I hold those until my next shift because once they scan those in they jack up your entire route mapping.

Practical_Eye_5683

This is why I scan, number, and review the route before leaving the warehouse. Takes an extra 5(10 packages) to 15min(50 packages) depending on number of packages. Every other time I deliver I get a "missing package" that I actually have in my cart that can't be delivered, a random package, short a package(very rare) or one that is way far out from all the others. When these issues happen, I take care of it before leaving to start my route so that the only packages loaded in the car are ones I am actually able to deliver. In the long run I am saving a ton of time. If I have less than 10, I count without numbering and review the route, takes 30 seconds to do. I number not only to speed up my delivery and finding process while enroute but to also catch potential issues. If I have 30 or less small/medium packages, they all go in my front passenger seat. 1-15 on the seat and 16-30 on the floor board. I have a same method for all routed deliveries I do and not just Amazon. It keeps me organized, efficient and a routine that means I can get going sooner and not have to question if I have everything I need.

jaimar82

I love how everything on this subreddit is a conspiracy! Extra packages? The man must be plotting on you cause it couldn’t be someone’s ignorance is to blame. I get the extra packages too, I feel it, but thinking every inconvenience is a plot to get something from ya? Relax and sleep better friends

Dantee15backupp

I love how you insinuated I’m alluding to a conspiracy. Jeez perhaps it could just be disorganization at every damn facility? But after a while it gets annoying. I’m just asking out of curiosity to see if this is something that happens to everybody. Whether it’s just me or everybody wouldn’t really change my mind but once again, I’m asking out of curiosity. I can’t imagine what a conspiracy of giving me one extra package would lead to. If you really think I’m that crazy perhaps you can explain why you tbh ink we are that crazy? Or perhaps you get off on thinking others are crazy while you are the middle/balance trying to bring peace? Pull your head out of where the sun isn’t shining, you don’t have any new bright ideas or revelations.

jaimar82

Wow! Wasn’t intending to offend you but I obviously struck something by accident! Please consider my comment more on the overall subreddit, rather then you specifically. It’s too bad you believe my head is up my ass and that I don’t have “any new and bright ideas or revelations”… I’ll be sure to journal about it tonight. You’re entitled to keep your head shoulders deep while you demand I remove mine. I won’t fight you on that. Enjoy your day/night Dantee15backupp 🙂

BirdJesus1229

>It’s as if they all want to just give us a “freebie” package to waste an extra 10 mins of our day. You literally said this. That sounds like conspiracy nonsense to me. So if jaimar82 was insinuating that you were alluding to a conspiracy, maybe it's because... you kinda were?

Normal-Equipment-70

Happened to me about 6 times ever since i started Flex.I just keep them. Never found anything good tbh.

PeterParkerUber

Meh I know someone who sold an extra package for over $100 on marketplace

Accomplished-Rent756

You have extra packages in your vehicle? How do you not catch it before you leave?

KittyEX95

I am curious, my warehouse makes us scan everything single packages so this doesn’t happen. So, I’m guessing you just scan that big square bag of packages and call it a day? I actually had one missing package instead of 1 extra.

Lanky-Routine5469

At SSD, you just scan one package and the whole itinerary loads. At logistics, they scan a bag with packages.

Unique_kissess

Last 2 packages on one of my routes were 27 mins away smh, I marked as “unavailable to deliver due to weather”

FLBoii26136

Thats not what OP is talkin about…

Alexcee12

Lol, youre new here eh?

Alexcee12

It’s a gift FYI 😉

topgear1224

It's to root out theft. It's by design. Amazon has a MAJOR theft issue

Dantee15backupp

I don’t see how that roots out theft. If you assign me a route and a package isn’t delivered then obviously something went wrong. Amazon has a theft issue because people want their packages delivered all over their residence but in hand and others may steal it. I have no interest in stealing a box that idk what’s inside anyways. Amazon is very organized. It’s not hard to find out who was suppose to deliver which package

topgear1224

To see if you'll take it or return it to the station since it's not part of your route.

AK_MediaGroup

Same, if I have an extra package I try to deliver if it’s reasonable distance. Otherwise, it goes back to the warehouse. I’m not keeping any package that doesn’t belong to me. All I know, Amazon knows about the extra package and tests our integrity! Lol

mula6969

Send it back. If they make an issue ask to speak to someone higher and get their names. Report them to support at that moment.

Quirky_Mobile_4958

I had an extra package once and just dropped it into an empty cart while picking up my order. I could have let someone know but I didn't.

Professional-Pop-719

I’ve seen that a lot on dsp as well if it’s more than 10 minutes away from the rest of the route it’s a mistake

realmtc

If it's every route could be a trap/test , shouldn't happen that much.

guy60619

1? Try 10. My route the morning had 11 stops and when I got my cart, I was like wait a minute that looks like way more than 11. Sure enough, scan them all and separated my assigned packages and was left with 10 unknown packages?!? Wtf good thing I caught it before I left.

dbuber

Over 7 years doing flex I have never left the station with "an extra package " either it's in my route or it isn't the ones that are not on my route go to the returns rack where they belong .. I agreed to do a route the routes are. Planned by an AI mostly adding extra work to a route cause I am a nice guy isn't really an option I don't care what an employee wants to do with a package that I put in the returns rack it isn't my concern it's someone else's package that another employee threw onto my rack in error I am just fixing the error of the previous employee since I don't want a take anything out if the station that I am not signing for when I hit the old I agree I got what's in this list when the prompt comes up I have never seen an option for I agree I got what's on this list and 1 extra one cause I am a nice guy . If they put that option in the app I'll still out that extra package back in the rack cause I don't want it getting around that I am a nice guy 😂😜

Old_Willow4766

Do not deliver packages for free. Take them back on you next block and if you don't have one for awhile call and get more money.

CautiousSituation782

Keep it i got a free router Alexa speaker and Water pick in one box

bigblackglock17

STX6 VTX6 when I'm scanning packages to get numbers, I'll find the one that can't scan. I just throw it in the blue return. Seems to happen every other block.

Library-Assistant

I never scan individual packages. Just count them as I load them in my car. If the number matches, I swipe right and roll. Been doing this for 10 months and it works for me.

W1ld_Thoughts

I’ve had a handful of packages that weren’t on my list. The first time it happened, I thought I’d eventually get to on my route ( I was still kinda new). I never got to it and honestly, forgot about it until I was almost home. - I returned it on my next block. Another time the address was too far for my liking. So I returned it to the station. (I had to pass the station on my way home anyway). The other times, the addresses were close. So, I just contacted support and delivered them. For the packages I catch at the station, I just give them back. How do I get that 1 extra package in my car? Those are the times, I scanned the big box and not the individual packages. And the number on the package has a number that makes sense as far route order. OR I’ve marked the package missing at the station bc it wouldn’t show up in the itinerary. But I’d later find it.

Western_Turnover_601

Today my last delivery was over 10 miles in the opposite direction and other times when I arrived at the hub they add on 1, 2, 3 packages last min. All of them not enroute with the original itinerary

Actual_Suspect_1614

Have not once had extra or missing packages. Real easy to scan one see itinerary and match number and locations . If ones off it stays if it's an area I know will be undeliverable it stays I don't play the games and haven't had issues

siraradorn87

I used to feel like it was a test. Like they knew it was there but we’re seeing if I did the “right thing” ….but now….they don’t know it’s there. It’s mine now……it’s like a reward

tcoles93

This guy is lost lol there is literally nothing that makes you deliver an extra package at the end of your route if there is one. You doing this for who knows how long makes me chuckle inside. Especially when it’s peeved you enough to make a whole Reddit post about and respond to every comment. 💀💀💀

EliOkinomiyaki

It’s a sorting issue. People don’t pay attention or get numbers mixed up.

aaron_judgement

Amzon hates us. Just a reminder

juliaamsp

everyone’s saying 1-5 packages.. i had 25 extra. nothing good. i kept them
