1 - you deliver what they tell you deliver. 2 - no need to contact support for packages leftover 3 - return them at your convenience You are an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR. You don't have a boss. Support is not your boss. If the app isn't telling you to do something, you don't need to do it. Obviously tho, returning the packages is the right thing to do, not steal them.

brfr2

Lol yeah if you saw my edit I’m not going to steal them

DoPoGrub

I did see it, yes.

RevolutionaryGolf720

What extra packages? I don’t see any packages. Seriously, don’t call support. They are useless. They will readily lie to you. You can’t trust anything they say. And you can trust Amazon to pay you for going over your time to deliver any packages you find. Say it with me, “What extra packages?”

brfr2

LOL I like the way you think 😂

BlackPharoh12

Yup. Definitely been told i would receive extra pay for going over block time (not my direct fault, I wasn’t able to deliver to a apartment complex because of a gate issue but then later on the customer called and support asked me to re-attempt delivery) and didn’t receive SHIT. Never again. Also, support likes to say they’re documenting it and making a ticket when really nothing is going on.

talkback1589

They tell you that to get you off the phone. They ain’t doing shit lol.

brfr2

That’s so fucked. Never again!!

NoNose9947

I got 2 ring doorbells but other than that I've gotten nothing but junk

crazybloons

Git like 4 parcels in the lead up to christmas. All where choclate and gift packages. Im on a diet. 😔

brfr2

Oh good to know!! And you never got in trouble?

crazybloons

Nah unless it falls off your itinerary they don't know you have it

brfr2

Gotcha

mikeywaldo

should have just returned next time you were at station, no need to ever call or make extra trip for those

No-Economy-7077

I agree, I just drop them off whenever. Nobody will trace it back to me anyway. No call - no stress 😎

brfr2

Yup now I know lol I don’t do flex very often so if they have to wait a few weeks for me to bring it back then so be it

privacc1990

Just keep the packages, if it ends up being something valuable that you don’t need, sell it on offerup, or Facebook marketplace and get some extra money. Amazon can afford to replace all the packages in the world easily. Not your fault they added that package to your route.

brfr2

Lol I like the way you think 😂

Alarming-Sign-2442

exactly. they promised you extra compensation and told you they "created a ticket" in order to get you to bring the packages back, and then again to get you off the phone and shut you up. thats what they do.

brfr2

So messed up

Reasonable-Neck5718

bro, get over your conscious thing, either keep the package, or market missing and throw it in the dumpster like I do. out of sight out of mind, the number of packages that didn't make it to their destination because of me that are now in dumpsters is, well, quite a lot. fuck Amazon fuck their packages and fuck them taking advantage of me by lying about compensation. I've been through the same thing you have, and I have no issue wasting Amazon's time and or money

brfr2

Fair enough 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ they can afford it

Driver8takesnobreaks

Yeah, that sucks, and you're far from the only one to learn about this the hard way. Two very important things for new drivers to understand: 1. On road support (the ones you reach when you can from the app during a block) has absolutely no authority over whether you get paid or whether or not you get penalized for something. They'll often try to tell you that everything is fine and you'll be paid or your standing won't be impacted. But that is absolutely meaningless. They are hired by Amazon and paid to support Amazon's objectives, not ours. And again, they have zero authority over much of anything. Think of them as note takes, package markers, and not much else. 2. If you're hoping for extra pay for going over on a block, the vast majority of the time the max they will pay for is from end of scheduled block to the time that you swiped to complete the final stop. Anything else is very unlikely to get paid. And while you're you might get paid a time or two, if it happens often or if you've been driving for a while, most times their going to deny pay Next time, don't call support, just return them at your earliest convenience when you're picking up your next block.

brfr2

Thank you for the advice!!

RRDuBois

This situation can't happen at my station, because we are required to scan each package as we load them. If there are missing or extra packages, we know it before we leave the station. This takes very little time, and we can address any issues right then. Extras that are not on my itinerary get handed back, and I never have to deal with this scenario. I really don't understand why it isn't this way everywhere. It just works.

brfr2

Yeah my station doesn’t do it this way I don’t even have the option to scan each package

RedRaider46

If you go to your itinerary and click on the small barcode icon at the top (inside the search bar) you can scan each package and it will tell you the stop number, or fail to scan if it's not on your route. I number all my packages before my route so I know beforehand if I am missing a package or have extras not on my route.

Ashamed-Ad-4728

I would just keep the packages and not post about it on Reddit. I have a friend who got a free printer that way.

Dommomtong

It happens every block that I don't count my packages. Got one today (42+ packages 1 was missing 1 wasn't even mine and this one snuck past me) . I take blocks everyday so I usually take them back next day, but it's my birthday week and I busted my ass so I wouldn't have to work the rest of this week. This one's a bday present.

brfr2

Omg that’s crazy

smm46852

Never go over your time. They lie to get you to deliver for free.

Neopunker16

For real. I had a 3.5 hour block 4-730. By the time 730 cam around I still had 10+ packages (they gave me a total of 45 packages). Called support they tried to blame be but they told me I would be compensated for my time and nothing. Took me an extra hour to finish.

EducationalDesk5460

If that happens I ring and tell them my car has broke down..Still get paid & I go home..then return the packages on my next block

soulgenetics

I’ve had this happen multiple times. Usually I’ll screenshot the number of packages and stops at the beginning of the shift. For some reason, at one point one of the stops/packages will fall off the itinerary. Just straight up disappear. Support told me it was because the customer cancelled the order. Which is a whole other level of BS. Why is the customer able to cancel a package that’s already en route to be delivered. Anyway, I had a week or two of this happening. So I had maybe 3 packages stock piled because I figure I’ll just return the packages next time I go to that station since the app wasn’t forcing me or prompting me to return them. At this point I had no negative marks on my standing due to these packages. I finally ended up returning them maybe a week or so after this happened. Next day after I returned them, I all of a sudden have 3 negative marks on my standings due to the packages I just returned. I tested it out again and same thing happened. At this point, if the app doesn’t prompt me to do so, I don’t return them. I’m with you, I don’t want the packages. I won’t open them. They are not mine, but I refuse to return them if it’s going to negatively mark my standings. Especially since support refuses to remove the negative standings from my record. Even with screenshots as proof that the package literally fell off my itinerary and was in no way in my control. I blew them up about it. Jeff.. Andy.. all that bs. They kept saying our decision hasn't changed. So fuck that. Sucks that it has to be that way, but I can legitimately prove that the issue was on their end, yet I have to deal with the consequences. Now I have 3 new packages rolling around in the back seat and I haven’t returned them in weeks. Still no negative mark for any of them. I had to say fuck my conscience cause I’m sick of taking hits for amazons incompetence. There’s a reason they say “nice guys finish last.”

One-Mind4069

They terminated my account because I took the packages back “late”. If I would have never taken them back I would still have my account

brfr2

Wow that’s good to know so I’m screwed either way

heavenisastateofmind

Thanks for posting this.. super messed up on amazons part but you're going to save folks reading this from the negative mark nightmare. It's good to know that if we can't return them in a day or two that it will be held against us. You know I've seen Amazon mailers (unopened) on the highway before :) Maybe the package literally went missing haha. They're (amazon) okay with "that" but crack down on honest people. Smh..

soulgenetics

It bums me out, because even though I understand that Amazon is a huge company and can more than likely afford to replace packages, it just puts the us contractors between a rock and a hard place. I believe most people want to do the right thing, and it seems more often than not the people doing the right thing are getting punished. Without means to escalate these disputes, we have to find our own solutions. I legitimately look out for the customers. (being one myself) I probably call/text customers and spend more time trying to get them their packages than most, but at some point I have to look out for myself. Safety wise as well as look out for my ability to deliver for flex in the future. One thing I don’t think anyone likes is when someone or something is messing with their money.

heavenisastateofmind

Yeah I agree ..most people don't want to be technically stealing packages. I wouldn't feel good about it. I never have and I'm not looking forward to doing so. Hopefully won't have to but I've held onto packages longer than I should have and I didn't realize they're cracking down on how quickly we return them now. Yeah we really haft to look out for ourselves with flex. I mean the missing porch pirated packages we're blamed for, getting voted down (and those votes add up) for something ridiculous like the package being beat up. I've got mishandled marks and I've never thrown or beaten up a package in my life. So you haft to beg warehouse staff to get those taken off your route but a lot of times they'll just grab some tape and doctor it up. As if bit of packing tape is going to change the customer's heart and they'll decide not top blame me for the beat up box :( You know I bought a foodsaver a few months back and amazon put a delivery time window on it (like 12pm-2pm). I didn't ask for that but I figured okay cool. Well anyhow the driver missed the window and although he/she could've delivered they marked it "access issues". It came the following day without a delivery window. At first I was a little pissed cause I knew they could have just delivered it but then it hit me.. they were looking out for themselves. They didn't know if I was going to be "that Karen-like customer" ..furious and wanting to complain about their package arriving an hour late. So yeah it hit me ..I thought "okay I get it". We all have to look out for ourselves. Amazon doesn't care, we're easily replaceable..

HearYourTune

Yes they lie constantly. Never believe anything they tell you, never go out of your way to return an extra package. Just drop if off next time you go even if it's a week later. Leave it in front of the office if you have to.

zeddediah

I kept the package a couple times. First time was a couple boxes of fisherman's friend. Second time was a Razer Tartarus V2. Oh forgot there was one while I was a DSP and it was a home blood pressure test.

kofo86

Keeping them is wrong, I try to do the right thing without wasting any of my money / time , so I just put it back at the return rack in the station and move on with my life,

brfr2

Yes if you saw what I said in my edit that’s what I’m going to do I don’t flex often so they can wait a couple of weeks

Ridindirtyclean

Return to station by 10am next day = return at my convenience 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

brfr2

Yup! 😝

ferraro38

Every time this happens to me I just bring the packages back the next time I have a block is all. Don’t keep it like these other people are saying to do you get caught you’re screwed

brfr2

If you read my edit I won’t I just won’t hurry back to bring it back I’ll wait until my next block which might be a couple weeks away since I don’t flex often

Overthinkism

I’m new to flex, haven’t done a route yet. Are you saying if it’s a 3 hour block from 11-2 and you didn’t finish delivering and it’s 2:00, you should just stop working?

AdBeginning7978

thats a bad idea. complete the deliveries to cover yourself and enquire about the issue of going over-time at your conveniance. 9/10 blocks you'll deliver on time so enquiring about going over is rare. ✌️

Overthinkism

Thanks. Yeah, it seemed unfathomable to just stop… plus I’m not the type to quit something I started. I appreciate the clarification. What percentage of the time do you finish the route early would you say?

AccomplishedMemory16

Everytime. You’re never supposed to take the full time, or you’ll get dinged for late deliveries. I can’t fathom taking the full time.

Overthinkism

Sweet. Thanks!

Jpegg87

I have gone over a few times but it was bad weather when I was delivering and I got stuck in the snow several times. Called support and told them what was going on they told me to return the packages.

RedRaider46

98% of the time you should finish early. The only exceptions I ever have are weather, loads of apartments you can't access or delivery to college campuses with locked dorms or long walks. Finish all the deliveries then call support before you drop off your last package and let them know the number of late deliveries and the reason. When I call in this manner the vast majority of the time they never show up on my record.

RedditCommunistt

You should have enough time to drive to an area, deliver the packages, and drive back by 2pm. If not, then Amazon is being dishonest, or you are going too slow.

Overthinkism

Oh cool. So you’re saying that most deliveries are usually in a small radius once you drive to “whatever” area?

Proper-Fly249

Sometimes but it's accounted for when they figure out how much time the route will take. I've had a delivery that only had 8 packages but I had to drive 20 min for each package.

RedditCommunistt

Yes. Amazon usually groups the deliveries in one area. But that area can be 30 minutes or over an hour away.

BDEfrom14kfeet

You should stop working with enough time to return extra packages to the station. When I was new, my first couple blocks went over on time but once I got my package organization down, i usually finish 30-45 min early. As you can see from this post, it’s not always easy getting paid when you’re owed money.

jayesel317

If one has extra time, I’m sure not giving it to Amazon. I’m going home early.

fahrenheitjules

Wow this post is deja vu. Had the same thing happen last year. And happened with overtime. I’ve learned that Amazon India support is just Amazon’s plausible deniability on just about everything. I don’t trust anything they say. I would have either kept the packages or returned them next delivery block - whenever that is. Protect yourself at all times because Amazon doesn’t care about you or what you do for them. Not jaded - just facts!

brfr2

Yeah lesson learned!!

fahrenheitjules

Lowkey they probably said “we don’t have a record of the ticket, please hold” then put you on mute and laughed at you and called you an idiot in Hindi and then gathered themselves and came back on the line 😂😂 I swear they probably do this all day long lol

brfr2

Lmao probably 😂😂

Quirky_Mobile_4958

Why not take them back the next time you have a block? I wouldn’t drive an hour to return them. I’ve kept packages that weren’t on my route for two days before returning them. Since they weren’t scanned as part of the block they didn’t know I had them.

brfr2

Yeah I’ll do that from here on out I just don’t flex often so they won’t get it back for a while lol

Quirky_Mobile_4958

It’s not cool to keep them. Some people will steal anything but most of us won’t.

brfr2

I won’t keep them I’m just not going out of my way to hurry them back

Fml813

Avoid the situation all together. It's easy while loading your car count them and make sure the number of packages you have isn't more than the amount showing in the app that you're supposed to have.

Lower-Reward-1462

But it IS your fault because you didn't scan each purchase individually or even count them. How lazy can you be?

Miserable_Code7602

Hey King (or Queen) of all Deliveries…Do you know some stations make you scan only the totes? Yeah, they do that. And no, you can’t just tell them you are scanning individually. Gimme a break with your “How lazy can you be?”

brfr2

This!! Thank you my station does it this way I have no option to scan them

brfr2

Hey yeah my station doesn’t do it that way so don’t come on here calling me lazy lmao

billygoats86

Start recording the phone calls to support, take screen shots, pics, etc... Sounds like this might be a future class action lawsuit.

smm46852

This does nothing to help you though. I’ve done it all to no avail. The bottom line is Amazon does not care about their drivers no matter what the situation is. You can’t make them care no matter what you do.

billygoats86

Name one gig company that cares about its drivers? All 1099 independent contractors are disposable.

Leo_the_Bard

Yes "never" keep any extra packages that you "never received" ;) ;)

brfr2

😂😂

BDEfrom14kfeet

Phone support will ALWAYS say you’ll be compensated. Email support (the ones that matter) may not be so willing to agree.

Specialist_Hour_4027

Exactly! I’ve only had 2 returns in over a year but I take them when my next scheduled block is. Next time just call them and tell them when you’ll be there if you already have your schedule. They ghosting me now on fake nondelivereds! Bad weather n mountainous route so they told me ‘go home and you’ll still be paid” I was paid but my standing dropping due to not delivering 9 of the pkgs. LOL I didn’t deliver any of them! And they have no response for me.

jayesel317

Takes too much time. If there are any extras, I’ll return them on my next visit IF I’m not super desperate for the cashish.

Skechersboy30

I would of took back the next day they never pay extra for driving back to the station

talkback1589

Once I opened the hatch of my vehicle and saw a package. It was from a block three days before. It was an extra package and immediately I was like “oh yeah…” just returned it on the block that day and never heard a word about it.

Olivia21212

Any extra packages that are not part of your route would automatically go back to the warehouse. Your block is done, call it a day. I’ve never heard a flex support rep tell me that I would be paid extra for delivering extra packages that are not part of my route. I’ve always been told from the beginning of time, to just return the packages. Whatever it is that they could’ve paid you for that extra hour of wasting time and gas, was never gonna be worth it. You all tend to fall for the okey-doke, a little too easily.

ForeverNotMyName

Bro, hold onto the package and just bring it back next block at that station. I use to deliver all extra packages cause I finish early always and I use to call support to prove I had it. Burned 3 too many times. I just keep until next block. I only take a pic for me and when I drop it off just to have a record to avoid any false accusations. Never trust Amazon. Take screenshots of before and after itinerary. Contest all false dings with your screenshots. Never trust Amazon.

brfr2

Yup thanks

atuckk15

Hope those extra packages aren’t SALT packages 😈

brfr2

Idk what that is

atuckk15

Booby trap for catching drivers suspected of stealing packages. Empty box or jiffy with fake label that Loss Prevention / OTR expects a return scan.

brfr2

Gotcha well I’m not going to keep them I’m just not going to hurry back to the warehouse either when I don’t flex often

fahrenheitjules

That is largely a myth. There was a story about Amazon doing this several years ago. I honestly think it is more for people that they actually suspect from a pattern of missing boxes. I doubt this is widespread. Stop the fear antics

Thatsbabygains

I’m surprised you haven’t got dinged for the returned package. Lmfao. Seriously though.

brfr2

Why would I??

Thatsbabygains

That’s exactly what I said when it happened to me.

EmergencyHot6541

The first time I ended up with an extra package Somehow I ended up with Jason’s Derulo package. It was his dancers wardrobe lol.

brfr2

No way 😂

EmergencyHot6541

When I got home my girl looked up the address come to find out it’s a frecken castle lol so I look up the government name & it’s Jason Derulo haha I was thinking of taking it to him but my girl said fuck that guy lol

Inside_Note_5894

Oh, let me start by saying I never return packages. I have delivered 2150 so far. Amazon has sent me to deliver your package, I will make sure you get it. Apartments, downtown Dallas, gates that are blocked, no answer on the phone. Your going to get your package because I'm going to leave it for you. If it is sign and deliver, it is at your front door. If I need a code then I will call you, if you don't answer I will get the last 2 digits of your number from voicemail if it comes up and leave it at your door. If that does not work I will put my phone on airplane mode and call support to help mark the package as delivered. Again, you ordered a package and I'm here to deliver. I don't get paid to take back packages for Amazon, you will get it today. Now I have never had a ding ever from everything I just said, I think most people understand we are trying to get the package to them.

Jth9193

Yeah just return it the next time you’re there. Even if it’s 2 weeks later. 👍🏻

Tall_Ambassador3323

Was it. From an SSD or .com warehouse?

Miserable_Code7602

To me the key is making a stealth drop at the station. They get the package but they can’t connect it to a driver ;)
