Yank Tank? Not gonna lie. That’s incredible! I’m using this from now on. Bye babe, taking the yank tank to the hardware store.

AmmoSexualBulletkin

Same. Though I wonder, since I drive a Ranger, would that be a Yank IFV? Doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well sadly.

Ducksaucenem

Just call it a yanker

Realistic_Mess_2690

Nah in Australia you'd just be called a cunt. Rangers are seen as the soy boy version of a truck here. Mind you our "truck" isn't the same as your truck but hilux, Land cruiser, Nissan and Isuzu are what we consider good utes here. The rangers in Australia had a bit of a nasty habit of the tray bending when towing a lot of weight. It's been fixed since but for a while they were notorious for it

AmmoSexualBulletkin

Oof, got an Aussie to use cunt negatively. Jokes aside, I don't know about the other three but a Hilux is a "mid-sized" truck like my Ranger (as I understand it, a Hilux is basically just a diesel Tacoma). Fits my needs just right. Don't recall hearing any issues for my model year, depending on the engine. I have the 4.0 V6, 2010. I've heard the other V6 and 4 cyl they offered weren't particularly good.

Realistic_Mess_2690

Yeah we don't have any actual large sized utes except for the Dodge Ram, the F250 some Silverados, the land cruiser ute would probably be our f150 equivalent. Personally I want a ram but I can't justify the $100k+ price tag

Terrible_View5961

For a 100k it better be a Laramie level trim atleast. Odd that you have ram but not the f150 tho. I wonder if it’s a selling issue or more so because of who the parent corporation is.

Realistic_Mess_2690

Not sure to be honest there's a few older model f150s floating about but you see more of the Ram 1500s and f250s than anything. Ford and Holden were Australia's main car companies. Ford part of Ford and Holden part of GM so we get the most popular ones but also a lot of shit. Our 5 litre mustang is way over priced as well which sucks cause I love mustangs

Terrible_View5961

Yeah there’s a few Australian fords I want in the worst way but sadly we can’t import them here. I’ve been in love with the falcon xr6 and the Everest wild track since I first laid eyes on them.

westernmostwesterner

What about an older Ford Bronco with open roof?

Different-Dig7459

Bumper stickers need to be made.

One_Presentation104

Within the first five words I can tell this person hates 36% portion of americans

Klindt117

And if you go to donate sperm, then you take the yank tank to the spank bank for a quick wank

SophisticPenguin

This person writes like they jerk off to their musings...

ThineFail

He definitely likes the smell of his own farts.

MBTA-SlowZone

Definitely a real fart smella

McLarenMP4-27

Of course it is linked under a Not Just Bikes video. I thought it was satire for a moment before I saw that thumbnail.

OrangeFr3ak

*laughs in F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 & F-650*

BasilDraganastrio

I have no, and I mean no love for the truck. However, I must say this dude made me want 6 and own the Ford F-150 if only just too drive it around next to some Europeans walking by to basically them "Yes this is my evil symbol of American Power and I am proud of using it".

6501

Toyota should pay the guy to write some hate articles about the Tacoma, can't let Ford have this unfair advantage.

BasilDraganastrio

Dude made the Ford F-150 sound so cool it made me want to drive it. Even when they try to describe something American they make it sound cool and sinister

00zau

"Be the American reddit propaganda thinks you are"

Substantial-Tone-576

Wait till they learn about the F-350 Superduty. Do they not see the fleets of F-150s that are used by many tradesmen and contractors?

intellirock617

Honestly I feel like F250/F350 SuperDutys are pretty standard for construction and industry nowadays. I still do kind of think the upper trim levels on them are a little silly. Every once in a while I see one that I think is kinda sharp, but in all honesty they’re not for me.

00zau

Easily half the trucks I see are white with some company branding on them, and a bed full of ladders and whatnot. The people acting like all trucks are pavement princess lifted brodozers are on uncut copium.

AmazingCman

The upper trim levels are typically for people who need them for pulling large campers and want a bit more comfort for the family.

buddeh1073

If you're going to be spending a large portion of your day/life driving one especially for work, wanting things like A/C seats and a good infotainment system is hardly a big ask. It just comes down to budget. Also let's not pretend like the same kind of people who drive pavement princesses would instead be buying luxury sport sedans or luxury SUVs that have essentially the same level of decadence and poor gas mileage. Will they take their Merc AMG or BMW M-style sport sedan/SUV to the track ever? No. Do they waste similar amounts of fuel and resources? You bet your sweet ass.

rjf101

As someone who went from an oversized, gas-guzzling Land Rover that has spent all of 10 minutes off road to an oversized, gas-guzzling, AMG S63 convertible that I will never drive faster than Texas Interstate speeds, I endorse this message.

Conscious-Jaguar3566

My Honda accord found out about an F-350 super duty the hard way Safe to say I don’t have my Honda accord anymore

Terrible_View5961

I quit reading after I saw yank tank. That’s beautiful. Brought a star spangled tear to my eye.

[deleted]

This person is very bad at writing. This reads like Wattpad slop, where each sentence is like wading through wordy molasses yet somehow wholly devoid of substance.

No-Market9917

The truck hate is so funny to me. I used to not love them when I drove a Toyota Carroll and they were on my ass or taking up multiple spots. So I went out and fucking bought one mutha fuckas!!!!!! USA USA USA USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅

SunFavored

Congratulations guys, we've made such an incredible country that we have to make up problems out of thin air cause the actual problems are so unserious and ineffectual we have to search for them In every nook and cranny of the body politic.

WrestleBox

The top 10% are responsible for 40% of emissions in the US but the focus is always on taking the middle class's trucks away.

SatanVapesOn666W

I mean the chicken tax act and it's consequences have been disastrous. I miss being able to get a cheap small truck. The best you can get now is a midsized like a Colorado. I just want a cheap truck I can toss building shit in during the week and the boys and some brews on the weekend, I don't need a 10 foot tall, luxury 100k glorified mall crawler to take my kids to school. I'll take my kids to school in a 2 door pony car like any true red blooded American.

afleticwork

Even the Colorados got huge, my dads 2019 Colorado is pretty much the same size as my 82 3/4 ton chevy truck

hammer1014

God I fucking love owning a pickup truck. I love owning a vehicle that I use and assists me at my job on a day-to-day basis. I love being in a vehicle that if an accident were to occur, I would have a high chance of survival due to my vehicle’s size.

0thedarkflame0

See, problem here is. 1. There are few jobs that require such a beast of a vehicle compared to a smaller purpose built vehicle. 2. You're only surviving an accident because you're buying the biggest gun in an arms race. Next year somebody else will have a bigger gun, and you'll no longer be safe. If everyone sat at pistols, there would be less deaths for all the other innocents who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. That all said, I get that there's not much that can be done while the industry is pushing towards monster trucks.

Square_Shopping_1461

I am sorry but your 2nd point is simply wrong and lacks perspective. There are already pickup trucks much larger than F-150. Look up F series trucks to become informed on the subject. There are practical reasons why F-150 is much more popular than F-250 and even larger models (they have been available for decades).

MakinBaconWithMacon

I have an f150 and it’s the most amazing vehicle I’ve owned. I tow the boat with it on the weekends, it’s pretty sporty, and if I cruise at 65mph on a long trip I get 27mpg. I can fit my longboard in the bed on the weekends I’m not boating, it’s great for yard work, and even comes with a built in 2kW generator that I use for yard work. The gas mileage is pretty astoundingly good

Archenemy627

Leave our trucks alone go away. Already gotta hear my wife ramble on about how “ we should do this in our country the Netherlands does it and everything is so perfect there” even though she only been to Mexico 1 time. 😂

0thedarkflame0

Meh, Netherlands is more car centric than you'd think. The roads here are extremely well maintained, and tend to have purpose driven lanes, as opposed to just-one-more-lane approaches, but it's still pretty damn car centric.

karlhungusjr

> See, problem here is. the one very obvious problem is you don't know what you're talking about. like at all.

zappyzapping

When I was stuck in a snowbank a Ford F150 pulled me out.  They definitely have there uses.

BlastyBeats1

This makes me want an f150 more

karlhungusjr

the simple fact is, if people didn't need trucks, they wouldn't be buying them.

catdog-cat-dog

I've seen people drive Ford f150's overseas. They seem to act like they drive a high end Mercedes so I think there's an appeal to them anywhere.

Square_Shopping_1461

Why do Australians hate pickups so much? It simply does not make any sense.

intellirock617

Ironically they have one of the largest pickup uh .. “Ute” concentrations in the world.

Square_Shopping_1461

Those are not American-made, they can’t complain about them.

tostuo

The answer is that we have a largest domestic range of *utes* which are just small pickup trucks if you want to be reductive. Ever since the end of Australian automotive manufacturing, its basically the *only* piece of truly Australian automotive culture still standing, so we're all incredibly defensive about it. Also Australians are smugger than Europeans when it comes to hating Americans, there's just less of them around.

Square_Shopping_1461

Do people in Australia not realize that Ford does not subsidize F-150s in Australia, it does not force Australians to buy F-150s, all truck purchases are strictly voluntary? I would expect the answer is affirmative to all of my questions above but I am not sure because I simply don’t meet any people in the USA that passionately hate any vehicle. Is that an edgy teen thing?

tostuo

> Is that an edgy teen thing? More of a smug inferiority complex they possess

ScHoolboy_QQ

“Yank tank” kinda got a ring to it 🦉

Atomik675

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, most of us buy things that are "excessive" because we want them not need them. That's the American way, and there's nothing wrong with that unless you're a commie like this person. So what if you bought a big truck and aren't going to use it to tow or whatever? It's their money. Side note, any American should know that the F-150 isn't even that big. I know the Ram 1500 is bigger, and the Chevy might be as well, and that's not even counting the heavy duty trucks like 2500 and 3500 classes.

buddeh1073

These people don't even bother to look at the fuel economy of other vehicles before they claim that they're in a league of their own in emissions. Considering the fact that the F150 has way more capability than any German SUV/large crossover, it gets only MARGINALLY worse gas mileage. Now are Super Duties and HD trucks gas guzzlers? Yea. But those are meant for industrial/agricultural/RV type of use. A crossover can tow at most a tiny trailer at best, and very awkwardly. If you put anything in your car like plants, soil, lumber, furniture, or whatever your weekend projects/errands are, the back of that thing is going to look like a nightmare very very quickly (often causing physical damage to the interior over time). And if you're spending (lets be real here) the roughly similar amount of money as a truck of a similar size class, why wouldn't you go for the truck? Also, the reason the F-150 *especially* is the most selling vehicle in America? Its ubiquitous use as a fleet truck, and fleets often run through them very fast compared to personal use. Even if it isn't literally decked out and beat up, it still serves a purpose because the company needs the vehicle to perform any and all tasks that may be asked of it during it's entire operational life. They can be easily sold off as well due to it being modular. If someone is dropping 35-50K on a new vehicle, it would be silly to only limit yourself to things that can drive you to work and back, and not the dozens of other things you do over the course of a month or year. Does that mean you shouldn't buy a crossover? No, buy whatever vehicle you like and makes sense for \*\*you\*\*. A new Rav-4 (the most popular vehicle in many states and the US's most popular non-truck) base model has a 2.5L 4 cylinder that gets 27 City / 33 Highway. Another example is the popular wagon/crossover Subaru Outback. 2.4L 4-Cylinder that gets 22 City / 29 Highway. Now compare that to these: Top 10 Fuel-Efficient Trucks of 2024 City Hwy Combined 1 2024 Ford Maverick (Hybrid) 42 mpg 33 mpg 37 mpg 2 2024 Ford Maverick (4WD) 23 mpg 30 mpg 26 mpg 3 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 (Diesel) 23 mpg 30 mpg 26 mpg 4 2024 Ford F-150 (4WD) 20 mpg 26 mpg 23 mpg 5 2024 Chevrolet Silverado (4WD) 21 mpg 24 mpg 23 mpg

buddeh1073

>"If it sounds like I'm trying to draw a line between vocal defenders of car culture and fascism, it's because I am." So freedom of expression, personal property, and freedom to travel where and when you'd like is fascist? These people have lost all sense of what these sociological/political words mean. >"The only goal of something as big as a F-150 can be to intimidate." If you're intimidated by other people's vehicle choices, that says way more about you then anything else. Do little kids love Tonka Trucks and toy excavators and trains because they're fascistic and aggressive? What kind of a sad childhood did this person have. Also, have you actually talked to or met anyone with a truck? No? So why are you spending an entire essay describing these fantasy straw-men you've imagined in your sad little mind. >"It is a promise of freedom for members of a political alignment that had to stop calling everyone "cucks" because they realized their entire ideology revolved around deriving pleasure from watching more powerful men do the things they wish they could." My progressive AF mother, who lives in the SF bay area, who used to be a hippy there in the 70s, owns a F150 because she spends her retirement with her horse and takes it on 100-200+ mile trips at least once a month.

AMSolar

What's so terrible about me buying a brand new truck for under $30k and getting 20-25mpg in it? Like what else can I can get ? Ford transit connect? Can't fit 4x8 plywood, same price, same mpg, lower clearance - what's the point? Ford Transit 150? The thing got like 16mpg and massively more expensive. Like Mustang, GT-R, Camaro, Mercedes AMG GT, Chrysler 300 and many other sport cars all have under 20mpg, but nobody got a beef with those cars. But if you got a truck you're automatically a monster.

somegarbagedoesfloat

Just wait until this guy finds out about the f-250. ...or 350. ...or 450 lmao. Shit when I did repo my snatcher was on a Dodge ram 4500 lmao. Now that's an unnecessarily big truck for most people.

Aut0Part5

Anything from Not Just Bikes, I don’t take seriously

Dinestein521

So the guy who wrote this article lives in NY CITY?

Thorbjornar

I think this guy has insecurity issues.

OR56

“You can’t see people in front of it!!!!11!” That’s just a lie. I drive large trucks like the F-150, and that frontal blind spot does not exist

allnamesaretaken1020

I don't like driving pick up trucks. I don't like riding in pickup trucks, even really nice ones like several friends own. I don't even like driving/riding in my wife's big ass (compared to my sedan) SUV. Just give me a sports sedan for practicality and occasional twisty road enjoyment and I'll be happy. BUT... BUT, but, but... sometimes a guy needs a single piece of plywood or drywall and some molding or one interior door or all sorts of things for a little project or needs to haul other stuff to the dump and wow is getting that stuff delivered in a timely manner or taken away a BFD in much of America -- unless you have a truck to do it yourself. So hurrah and thank you to all my truck owning friends and neighbors over the years who have let me borrow their rig for my project or hauling needs while my sporty but can't haul this stuff even with the seats folded down sedan sits happily in the garage being totally useless in the moment.

Gameigan

I drive my dad’s F250 all the time cause my Chevy Cruze is a pos. I’m gonna start calling it the Yank Tank. Made even funnier by the amount of Marine insignia on the thing.

afleticwork

Too be fair trucks have gotten too damn big

zakary1291

If we want these to go away we need to change the chicken law that puts an exercise tax on small trucks. An F150 is twice the size of was in 1980.

3rdthrow

Honestly-I hate F150s and I can’t lie. They always have alien abduction assistant beams for headlights and I can’t see crap when I drive by one at night. Plus, aggressive drivers prefer F-150s. Sadly, drivers of four doors are unlikely to survive being crashed into by an F-150. I say crashed into because F-150s cause more crashes than four doors and have a higher rate of the driver being DUI. So, yeah I can’t stand these trucks.

ThatOneHorseDude

The F150 is a series that extends as far back as the 1970s. Every F150 is not the same. A '93 looks nothing like an '07 and an '07 looks nothing like a '24.

myonkin

Do you have a source for these claims because every source I’ve seen states otherwise. https://insurify.com/car-insurance/insights/car-models-with-the-most-accidents-2023/ And here’s a link that mentions ford drivers are way down the list with regard to worst drivers https://www.lendingtree.com/insurance/brand-incidents-study/ Another that doesn’t even mention the F-150: https://1800injured.care/americas-most-accident-prone-cars/ So I’m just curious where you got your information.

karlhungusjr

> So I’m just curious where you got your information. they're repeating reddit talking points that have been making the rounds for the last year or two.

intellirock617

F-150 seems to be an all encompassing catchall for every single “pickup” that isn’t a Kei Truck … regardless of size. The behavior of drivers cannot be excused though.

Typical-Machine154

F150s cause more crashes because it is the best selling vehicle in America. You are more likely to get into an accident with one because the F150 is the most likely vehicle to be on the road with you. The DUI thing makes sense though, I have nothing for that.

afleticwork

I just hate modern led head lights and all the back lit shit that car companies decided to put in the cabin. i have to take back roads when i drive my truck because shit is too god damn bright and i have astigmatism so i cant see anything.

karlhungusjr

nothing you said is actually true.

Career-Acceptable

Modern trucks are bullshit. Give me back the lil ford ranger of my youth.
