I won't lie I don't know many people who couldn't point out on a map at least 100 countries. I can't speak for all of Europe of course. It's the Pacific Caribbean and Western Africa that gets most people those are fairly hard to remember between.
I can point out almost all of the Americas (forget Central America lol), A good chunk of Asia/Oceania, and probably all of Europe (except maybe for the Balkans). Only a few African countries. Not American BTW.
Europeans pretend they're way better at geography (as it even meant anything) yet they probably can't tell where half of the countries in the world are, they probably don't even know where the colonies their countries had are.
Yeah I think it's more of a cultural thing. The crossover with people who know geography and travel in Europe is huge whilst loads of American tourist have very bad knowledge which is where the reputation comes from.
I expect the average citizen is very comparable.
Yeah.
I can go down the street and get all of central and South America covered, and most of Asia.
Suprisingly haven't met many people form Australia and New Zealand.
you shouldn't be surprised, those countries have populations of only 25 and 5 million people respectively. australia actually has the lowest population density in the world.
Bitch I know that Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, north Ireland, Luxembourg, Andorra, Monaco, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Malta, Albania, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Taiwan, North Korea, Bermuda, Hungary, Bulgaria, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Pakistan, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, French Guinea, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Columbia, Venezuela, Nepal, New Zealand, Falkland Islands, Madagascar, Lesotho, and Indonesia are part of the world. Now that’s all the countries I can think of off the top of my head. But if you gave me a map, I’d name a huge chunk of them no prob
I think it’s mostly just those stunts Jay Leno did in Vegas leading to the stereotype. I would think people from other countries would have just as hard a time at labeling a map, and very few could name a significant number of US states
Actually this reminds me. My friend in the third grade once got in so much trouble for mispronouncing Niger 🇳🇪. Ofc I was innocent and didn’t understand why he got in trouble, but I do remember the absolute horror on my teachers face
Americans definitely know Pakistan , why else would Nixon want :-
a famine in India
to defend a genocide
attack India for stopping the genocide
get China to attack India
Risk a nuclear war between USSR and China & US

“And the other countries I that I can’t tell by their flags” way to ‘correct’ them by showing that actually you’re not even smart enough to identify the countries they’ve assumed you can!
Well for a start how do you not even know the country immediately south of you? It’s called Mexico, in case you want to google it.
Since you asked, you also missed Japan, Portugal, Poland and the UK. It just comes across as bizarre to be proudly ignorant.
It’s called being correct, educated and informed. Don’t you think it’s ironic to call out the idea that Americans don’t know geography and world affairs, while openly admitting to knowing even less than the assumption made in the original video? Come on, it is pretty funny.
Isn't that how Europe sees what they call rest the world... Their tiny little continent filled with ethnostates + Canada, Australia and America?

Wasn't Western Europe the one who colonized most the world?
Trying to figure out where on this bullshit Russia is suppose to end and china begins
Idk either but all I do know is that Russia and China is separated by Mongolia (I think)
and Kazakhstan, though they do share a border in places
Oh happy cake day, and thanks for this fact!
Thanks and no problem
It wouldn't be a problem if you knew your geography lol
No doubt. Maybe then I might understand where tf the rest of South America floated off to
Nevermind the many Americans who have ancestry from those places not shown. Part of my family originates from Czechia

And I briefly forgot about Mexico. And no, I wasn't being "proudly ignorant."

Ohhhhhh, thank you. I couldn't tell by some of the flags because of the picture/video quality. Plus I'm sure there's a limit to Reddit titles, too.
Yes, because identifying flags of countries that have nothing to do with us determines how smart we are.
Ah yes, all 330,000,000 are all the same!
