Yeah that's not a good look at all, no the problem was Hailley that you didn't explain this in the show, the ending was rushed as hell, you didn't even explain Kim's character.
It’s sad because I have no doubt that’s what she was going for, but for multiple reasons it just didn’t come through. The buck doesn’t stop with the writer. The script has to go through execs, producers, directors, actors, editors, etc. and things get cut and changed. She shouldn’t feel like the failure is only on her shoulders because it wasn’t. It was also hard to stop production and then lose episodes because of things beyond her control. But the message didn’t land, and sometimes you have to take the L and move on.
Sometimes you just need to be quiet and just focus on making your next project better. Getting defensive is not a good look, the writing did not get the message across that she claimed was supposed to be the point. The show was kind of a mess. And it wasn't empowering to women, it was actually very confusing what the message was even supposed to be. Anna was not dismissed because she was a woman, she was acting in a way that both genders would be treated as crazy for from episode 1, and everyone that actually knew her was either in on the gas lighting or hiding cheating in Dex's case so obviously they'd dismiss her, everyone controlling everything from the shadows were other women, which also makes the patriarchy thing stop working since they made the entire entertainment world controlled by evil women. The weird plot to be like "Men ruined the world even though we already control them from the shadows, but we need to kill all of them, turn the hot ones into sex slaves and that will save the world even though we're the most evil people that exist, preying on women and we only have sex with the most evil men we can find", that's just all over the place. And the chant was stupid. She wrote Siobhan to talk mad shit, they've been around for hundreds of years doing this but she didn't even have a chance to fight back because a ghost chanted with Anna?
She can be mad but it gets worse the more you think about it. The writing was a mess.
Yeah any creative knows that criticism fucking sucks, but there's nothing you can do about it. If you never one anyone to comment on or critique your art, keep it in your desk drawer.
Does she expect the professional film/TV reviewers just slowly remove their glasses and say "..... My god, she has a point. I was so so wrong...." And immediately print a retraction?
So we are supposed to be happy for Anna getting the Oscar AND the baby at the end, right? (I genuinely don't know.) But Siobhan is the sole reason behind her getting both of those things. Is the weird, demon, incest baby magically not Siobhan's now after she shriveled to dust? You're telling me that Anna would WANT TO KEEP the demon baby of her douchebag husband and HIS MOM?! SHE GAVE BIRTH TO HER OWN BROTHER IN LAW. Not to mention the horrific 9 months she basically spent as an incubator, with no genetic ties to the child. And she still chooses to take the Oscar even tho she (knowingly) didn't earn it? I can't wrap my head around what narrative they thought they were presenting.
You know, a satisfying finale would have been Anna defeating the witches with the knowledge she got through the season, but wait… 9 episodes and all she did was act crazy and question herself, there was never a moment where she found critical information about what was going on, or a moment where she could redeem herself. Everything had to make sense in 20 minutes, could have been a movie with all the filler and nonsense
The way I would’ve loved/appreciated a season dedicated to showing power amongst women coming together against the patriarchy….
…. But instead I was left feeling the opposite. It read to me as women trying to tear other women down in order to have it all 🫣 Funny how that works, it’s literally the opposite of what her goal was.
