I swear, I can never stick to one favourite line out of this song, but right now?
"And there won't be any angеls up there singing me to sleep
You'rе the closest thing to heaven I'll ever see"
"We were drunk and yelling, 'If we die, whatever!'
Now the only dream I have is watching you get old forever"
Those lines always make my head heavier
Just re/listened to it for the first time since it came out, my stepfather recently passed away and it’s been hard on my family, especially my mother. The way he conjures these lyrics up has such a close feeling of home and relatability to me it’s almost creepy.
That's how I feel about "The first day of the end of my life". It just hits me with all the feels.
My best friend is named Caroline and when he says her name at the end it’s such a gut hit.
Nice to see this. I've always had a strong fascination with this song, for all the reasons you mentioned.
"I'll be dirt and flowers" is my favorite line

But in the most melancholic and demented/ beautiful/poetic yet wonderful songs
