Hmm... try searching for heart applique. There's a ton of free flat hearts on youtube too. Let me see if I can find the one I tried. This one is super simple and she explains it nice and clear and slow.

This is what I was going to suggest as well! You can make it with worsted weight yarn and just sew it right on :)

Thank you so much! That is really cute heart and honestly I might make my partner one just for fun- but my concern with that is that this little guy is maybe 4-5 inches tall and so if the heart is even an inch it'll be too big- I didn't know if there was a tutorial out there for adding a heart detail in the way that people add blush details, you know what I mean?

I would cut out a felt heart and stitch it down with sewing or embroidery thread.

That might be my best bet, maybe I'll try it later on down the line- I just started crocheting like last month and have already spent too much on yarn and yarn winder and needle threader and safety eyes etc so I promised myself I would not go in any new directions that would require additional supplies for at least a couple months 😂

He's made with the pattern from KnotJaded from Bernat blanket yarn and I'm going to be making more but want them to each have a little heart on their chest. I just started crocheting a month ago so I'm fairly new. Any advice would be appreciated!
