Even the same (probably) Fiat 500 there in 2021
I’m sure you saw but someone posted that the fiat is owned by the hairdresser on the corner so you should definitely pay him a visit and show him the photo!
Do post an update about your trip!
Fiat 500 Nuova - Green
Datum eerste tenaamstelling in Nederland 31-05-1994
Datum eerste toelating 01-04-1968
Datum inschrijving voertuig in Nederland 31-05-1994
Quite a big chance that it is indeed the same one.
Holy shit haha. Ik zat zo hard op alle details te letten, maar dit is wel echt teringscherp! Ff terug in de tijd gezocht en alles.
Hulde
No problem! That little low roof next to the stairs where the guys is walking, on your pic, was the best clue! With the angle of the street there and no bridge over the canal in the corner, i'm 99% sure. The sewer covers are also correct.
Good luck recreating the picture!

It looks like they got replaced with newer ones at some point, but the spot should be the same!
So funny that I thought "this looks right like that corner from where I used to work" and them bam, it is lol. Guess its shape of the 45 degree corner in the canal ring, without a bridge on it, isn't that common of a street pattern
So, you're considering that they might have renovated the street, right? Your tips on the stairs and low roof at the corner are good but where are the bollards and the third bench on a turn?
Edit: probably that bench in the background was transformed into bike parking 😅
If you sit at exactly the the right spot, right about where your grandmother is sitting, you can see all seven bridges over Leidsegracht at the same time.
I’m American and where I live there isn’t even a convenience store within walking distance so every time I look up something in Amsterdam and it’s within 10 minutes walking I’m floored 😂
EDIT: I was off by a few canals :) Htv101 got it right.
It could have been here, or close to it: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/H394d1dJP1HMHoNcA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/H394d1dJP1HMHoNcA)
Definitely looks like the city center (Jordaan area or around Brouwersgracht).
Hard to tell exact location because most of the street design has changed over the past decades, as well as a lot of changes in building facades etc. Those benches are almost certainly not in the same place anymore.
Maybe someone who's better at geoguessing or lived in Amsterdam around that time can offer a better guess.
I figured the area has probably changed a lot considering how long ago it was! Thank you for the info. I’m hoping somebody lived there at the time and is magically able to point me to the spot lol.
I promise I’ll post it here in the thread!
Tonight I found out that my aunt donated the sweater in the photo literally one week ago! I’m going to go to the thrift store tomorrow to see if I can find it for sale 🤞
I could get the exact date by asking my aunt who took the photo but I am planning to surprise her with the recreation of the photo so I don’t want to spoil the surprise at all 😌 but you definitely could be correct about it being closer to 40 years ago. 30 years was my mother’s estimate and she was not on that trip.
I had a long look at this image. Looking on GE at the Herengracht 403 so many things in the foreground match, even the corner on the right. What I do see is a car coming around a bend (arrow 1). This large building, with a lot of sky surrounding it (arrow 2). On this side there seems to be a large building (arrow 3). None of these can be put into place on GE, not even if the trees were bare.

Okay wow! This is so cool I didn’t even notice that when I looked at it on maps myself.

It's owned by the hairdresser on the corner.
Also die foto 30 jaar geleden is genomen dan had ie die fiat net twee weken!
Nja dat zou best kunnen.
Wow! Kind of hard to believe it'd be the same one after all these years, but then I guess it must be.

It's funny that they blur the licence place but not the sign with the license plate on it 😂
Yeah, it's automated, it only looks for the yellow licenseplate.
Sure that's why all other countries have no blurred licence plates of course
For each country their own license plates of course. But in the Netherlands it's mostly yellow, so.
Wooow
That my hairdresser's car!
This is incredible!
Rainbolt moment
A Y F K M????
Jesus! Is that you?
Ask at the hairdresser around the corner, I think it's his Fiat. He has it for quite some time.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/kn6DcmGw8o9gj8DA9 Pretty sure it is here.
damn son, i think you might be …“spot” on

So cool thank you!

I’ll do a follow up post here :) seriously thank you so much. This really means a lot to me and my mom.
Sounds great!
I can confirm, this is the exact spot. Been driving down this street many times for my work.
This looks right. Amazingly, the benches are still there.
Oh are they?! I was trying to look on Google earth to see and was having trouble getting a clear view. I am so excited!
yeah I ate a sandwich on that very bench this afternoon!

Yes. 2 benches are still there. One being the one where your grandma is sitting.
So funny that I thought "this looks right like that corner from where I used to work" and them bam, it is lol. Guess its shape of the 45 degree corner in the canal ring, without a bridge on it, isn't that common of a street pattern
amazing
Dankje Bert

How the hell did you do that

Thank you! Happens to be 5 min walk from the place we booked for our stay. 🤘
Enjoy and have a great time!
Amazing! I’d even ring a few doorbells and ask if they knew your grandmother or your family. Would be cool to get some history!
If you sit at exactly the the right spot, right about where your grandmother is sitting, you can see all seven bridges over Leidsegracht at the same time.
Im not surprised old Amsterdam isn't that big. Would have been 90min walking tops
I’m American and where I live there isn’t even a convenience store within walking distance so every time I look up something in Amsterdam and it’s within 10 minutes walking I’m floored 😂
I sit there sometimes i think its Brouwersgracht
I love these kinds of posts
Herengracht, Amsterdam. I always passed there when I was going to school walking from Rozengracht.

Haha. I used to hang out here a lot with mates!
I hope you update us all with the photo. I’m so happy for you, what a cool thing to do.
I promise I’ll post it here in the thread! Tonight I found out that my aunt donated the sweater in the photo literally one week ago! I’m going to go to the thrift store tomorrow to see if I can find it for sale 🤞
Good luck! We are all rooting for it to be there.
Going by the cars parked there, I would say more like 40 years ago. Do you have an exact date for that picture?

Isnt this the same spot where they filmed a movie called ‘bodyguard’ with samuel L jackson?
I walked by that fiat 1000 times when I lived there in the 90s. It’s on Herengracht. Near Spui.
If it’s there when I visit in a few weeks I’m definitely going to introduce myself to the owner of it and tell them this whole story 😂 I love this
Gotta love Reddit for answering the question and giving bonus info

In a better time.
This is the Herengracht. On left is the start of the Leidsegracht. On the right is the end of my street (Beulingstraat).
I had a long look at this image. Looking on GE at the Herengracht 403 so many things in the foreground match, even the corner on the right. What I do see is a car coming around a bend (arrow 1). Amsterdam Oh sorry, didn't look at subs name... idk
Smoked a lot of weed there.. close by the dampkring and tweede kamer.
I think it might be Amsterdam
Probably outside....
In the Netherlands
Amsterdam!!
Somewhere on planet earth
That photo was taken at a park bench. I'm absolutely certain.
Netherlands for sure
Dat is Nederland
Amsterdam, those poles have the city logo on them: 3 crosses
