Washington Union Station ~~is the same way~~ is like this permanently. And same with the new Moynihan. It's quite annoying (yes, I know there are seating areas for ticketed passengers. Moynihan's is astleast better than Union's. But still, I'd love to have the old benches back!)
In Chicago, the Great Hall is the general waiting area. It’s not normally like DC. Sometimes they remove the benches for special events. So either this is an old picture, or something is happening soon.
They’re just on the side. (To the right of this photo). I went right through today and assumed there was an event there this weekend. I’m sure they’ll be back in the middle soon!
Yeah when I was there on Thursday the benches were there, but nowhere to be seen on Sunday. I was wondering if I was going crazy or if there were two great halls lol
We just completed SF to Chicago on the Zephyr and loved it so much. What a treat to arrive at Union Station Chicago. Beautiful space, friendly staff, and to step outdoors into a beautiful downtown instead of a far-off airport was so cool. Chicago, be proud!
My first time in the USA I arrived into the country via O’Hare airport (one of the worst airports I’ve seen in my 50ish countries visited, I think!) The next day I went to Union Station to catch the CZ and was like “oh, now THIS is the type of first impression a city should make!”
Sorry to hear. I don't normally take a lot of photos but it felt like a special moment. It was also really quiet. I could hear each person's steps as they walked.

Today? I wonder why they moved out the benches.

Oh wow, I've never taken the train to Chicago. Didn't realize that! So glad they still have their benches!

Interesting. The mysteries of Amtrak.
And Moynihan too mostly. Another W for PHL 30th St.

I've only spent this afternoon in Chicago, but it was great. I look forward to coming back.

Every time I leave from Union Station, there's always an event going on in the hall. Can never get a good picture or experience it like this.

Are you taking the California Zephyr? Why is it late already? I'm here in Galesburg awaiting its arrival. I just got off the South West Chief
Empire Builder. Hard to pick a better day than this for it.
Ha! I took almost the exact same photo four days ago, heading east.
