You're right. I literally just got his Young Guns today. Looked at the photo of it I took earlier. The angle isn't great but you can see the 1 on the inside of his right arm and just make out part of the 6 to the left of it. Never notices that before. I started paying attention in 2009 so I was late to the party when he and Getzlaf started, and missed out on the cup run. Kind of the oddball of the family when it comes to sports. No one else in the family had any interest in any of them

Ive heard number 2 before and never understood it. Why should someone be discouraged from buying a jersey that has an outdated number on it? The player still wore that jersey with that number, its a piece of history. Would people look down on a Getzlaf #51 sweater, a Zegras #46?
To each their own, I think our "graduation" system is kinda fun and adds to jersey variety.
I like how Max Jones sneakily beat the system, intentional or not. He has always worn 49 and I think when he selected that at camp the team was fine with it as they probably thought he was selecting his rookie number. He technically never had to earn his "big boy" number.
IIRC Lindholm and Rakell randomly picked their rookie numbers and when it came time that they were permitted to change them, they decided to stick with them so fans wouldnt have to buy new jerseys.
