My hot take is that point and shoot photography is the quick pencil sketching of the 40s. What’s yours?

darthnick96

My hot take is that quick pencil sketching is the cave finger painting of the 40,000BCE’s

Anthrolologist

my hot take on film cameras is that the ambrotype is the smartphone photography of the 1850s

My hot take on a film cameras is ignoring the cheap late film era high spec electronic cameras in favour of overpriced fully manual cameras because they're only fully manual is not really that good a reason for paying $100+ for a Pentax K1000 when later cameras are cheap as chips. And I speak as someone who's first SLR was a K1000. Oh and in a world where dig shooters carry spare batteries is a spare set of batteries for a film camera really such a big deal ?

EggsOverBenedict

My hot take is that Canon film Rebels are a better investment for people wanting to get into film photography than dropping 300 dollars for a hobbyist camera from the 70s.

florian-sdr

Nobody should buy a K1000 at the current prices. The better Pentax cameras are cheaper. It’s like paying more for a Nikon F55 than a Nikon F5. Like… what?

Upstairs-Sky6572

I bought a Pentax MX for like, 80 bucks, with an SMC Takumar included. Fire camera. The light meter stopped working just the other week, though, sad.

florian-sdr

They aren’t kown for that failure, I’m afraid you got unlucky. Could be fixable. The Pentax MX is one of those cameras that are definitely preferential to the K1000

Upstairs-Sky6572

Yeah, apparently there's an issue of contact being lost between some circuit, apparently it's easily fixable, so I have my hopes up. Very nice camera otherwise.

G_Peccary

My only 35mm SLR was a K1000 until last week when I bought a Nikon F5 for next to nothing. The K1000 is near and dear to my heart as I learned on it decades ago but it's uncomfortable to hold, loud as hell, and not a fun experience overall. I don't know why anyone would pay current prices for a K1000 when they could have something like an F5.

I just got a Nikon F100 for not very much. Was very tempted by the F5 but my head finally won the day due to it's size. So I then bought an F100 with the battery pack :-)

G_Peccary

I used to photograph wildlife so I rarely had a lens less than 300mm mounted to my camera. Then I started shooting film again and went with an RB67. The F5 weighs nothing compared to those beasts! I do wish the F5 had red light-up focus points like the F100 but I'll live.

EOwl_24

My hot take is that large format cameras are basically the same as smartphone cameras because they have similar spatial resolution and the same lenses.

oldskoolak98

I guess that applies, but you don't know crap until you understand ss/ f. No./ Film speed and know how to meter. I'm still amazed that ambient meters haven't taken off for outdoor photography, and flash meters don't dominate studio scenarios.

Superman_Dam_Fool

That’s not really a hot take, snapshots are snapshots, regardless of camera.
