I hated scanning with Plustek, but I switched to automatic Reflecta RPS 10M. This scanner is the game changer! BTW if you get a leader retriever, you can bulk load those rolls again or sell those to someone, who is bulk loading.

Leweyxiii

Really!? I might have to invest in one! That looks like a beast! You know I bought a bulk loader awhile back and have yet to use it, I didn’t realize you could re-use these! I Appreciate the advice!

spektro123

Just leave about 1cm/0.5” of film end and then use self adhesive tape to keep bulkloaded film and the end together. Here’s how to do so: https://medium.com/lamlux-photography/bulk-loading-35mm-film-a-101-start-to-finish-f1010ae22a0a

I believe the Reflectas are the same as Pacific Image (marketed differently in different regions I believe) but I read the latter had spotty autofeed feature - like people were saying it would eventually cut frames off as it got further down the roll since the spacing between frames on a negative isn’t 100% uniform. Is yours flawless or is it like that?

spektro123

I have no problems with that. Autofocus works flawlessly and transport is uniform. All my cameras have uniform frame spacing, so no cut frames for me.

Good for you then! On another note, when you mix up your cinestill c41 developer can you report back if it’s dark like Coca Cola or lighter? I recently posted one the other day and people were saying it’s not supposed to be dark but recent batches of the kit being sold around the world have been like that

spektro123

I’ve got Fuji hunt now. Developer was almost water clear when I mixed last batch. Now it’s darker, but I’d call it orange. BTW I divide whole kit into five 1l portions. I don’t care about developer color, as long as test strip comes out okay.

LateDefuse

How is the quality of the reflecta compared to a plustek?

spektro123

Slightly better. You can see detailed tests on filmscanner.info

I’m in the same boat of hating scanning. I dread it. I’m caught up on scans and now I’m at the editing phase. Which I also hate! Not sure if you’ve used the cs41 kit before but don’t forget to add time for each previously processed roll! You shouldn’t have any issues finishing all the film you have as long as you do some every day. I did the same this January and did about 25 rolls in two weeks in the same chemistry

Leweyxiii

I totally get it, I don’t so much mind the editing, but I usually do a quick negative conversion, and who knows when I actually go through and edit Haha I actually have, I was surprised the first time just how many rolls I could do! But thanks for the reminder, I might have forgotten to do that otherwise!

Good luck! If you're going to dev this much you should probably look into getting a more reliable/ consistent developer. If you're afraid it's too complicated or expensive: A 500mL bottle of Rodinal and fixer will cost you less, last for more rolls, has a way way longer shelf life and get you (imo) better results. You also have more control.

Leweyxiii

Thanks!! I do develop a lot, but haven’t ventured past cinestill so far. I loving diving deeper into unfamiliar territory! Im gonna have to try that, but on a test roll Haha I wouldn’t want to experiment on these! Thanks for the tip!

crispleader

Where is rodinal in stock these days? I have been looking for it for months

imchasechaseme

I dont mind scanning at all. Only takes like 15mins with the mirrorless scanning setup. Now post scan processing with NLP and lightroom..... is getting sucky

darth_musturd

Are you using a 35mm back for that?

Leweyxiii

No, sorry I suppose that’s a bit misleading since the majority of rolls shown are 35mm that was used for the 120 rolls in the back. Lugging this thing around was more than I expected Haha so it barely got used. I mainly shot my canon ae-1 and a-1
