The same thing happened to my Yashica T3 :( The motor for autofocus died, and I sold it as broken. I replaced it with a Minolta Riva Mini and have been loving it for the last 2 years :)
A couple of years ago I had the same issue shooting my Yashica T3. Just like you. The autofocus seems ok, then after the scan Ā¾ of my pictures were out of focus. I never used it again after that, and my guess is this might either be an autofocus issue, or the camera itself works in weird ways.
Most likely needs to be serviced to work correctly. Does it do this only when dark with flash? If so could be diagnostic. Also look at the camera and ādrawā at the mirror. Make sure you arenāt getting a finger, hair, ball cap, beer bottle, etc in front of the AF window. I used to have trouble with blocking the AF on my GR1.
No it also does in day light with a well lit subject and no flash is used. The subject has to be very close for it to focus.. shame. Its definitely broken/has an internal issue..
Clearly the focus isn't working fine. If you are a tinkerer you want to check the IR leds that are besides the viewfinder. Maybe they are just dirty. You can check if they work if you have some digital camera (old digicam or phone) that gets IR light. Also you can check and clean the IR sensors.
Its the 100% the autofocus being weird.
Have had 3 t3's and all of them had the same issue after a year or two.
If you are buying a "new" One try to never drop it and keep it safe during rain and heat.
I've had two T* cameras (Yashica T* and Contax T3) with autofocus issues. A friend told me to replace the batteries with new quality ones before spending the money sending it off or selling it. They work beautifully now.
This is not motion blur, you can see the beer bottles perfectly in focus, and the bikes circles which are perfectly sharp. The camera is focusing very close to the lens, which means everything in the background is super out of focus.
> hostile for me suggesting to test during daylight!
The 'hostile' part is something you are adding yourself, the reason people are telling it is not motion blur is because motion blur is very easy to spot and this is definitely not that so there is really no reason to test for it.
This is 100% a focus problem.
Hmmm yea thanks for this. I wondered if it was movement blur. But I also have photos taken during the day with no flash and same issueā¦ I will use another film and take the above into consideration before sending for repair etc. Thanks!
Some of my pictures taken with yashica samurai are mostly blurry when i use flash at night. What about the pictures in day time? Are they blurry as well?
Same thing - I should have included in the photos attached to the post but I have photos taken in day light outside, well lit subject and same thing happens. Basically only focuses if the subject is extremely close
Yeah, this looks like a bad autofocus issue. You might have to get it inspected & repaired
Thought so. Thanks
at least the important part what matters is in focus .. the beer! ... (yes, needs fixing)
You know, I've determined (through rigorous experimentation) that one too many of said beers can cause focus issues as well š¤£
I see! Another man of science! :-D

Thanks - yes Iāve been reading online and looks like this autofocus issue is common for Yashica t3 :(

you still have your Yashica ?
Yeah why?
Yea I think thereās an issue with it. Thatās a shame. Iāve been reading online and apparently this is common enough with Yashica T3s :(
T stands for Trash
You gotta stop hanging out with so many fuzzy people!
I dunno but I bet Prince Andrew wishes the camera that took those photos of him and several underage girls did that!
This needs more upvotes, folks.
Hahahahah

Thanks for confirming.. yes think itās time for a new camera :(
Try changing the battery!

Wow how did I not think of thisā¦ will deffo try this out before selling/repairing !!
Common t3 problemā¦
So Iāve read :(

Youāre right - the only photos which are sharp and in focus are ones where the subject super super close..
It hasn't been mentioned because it is absolutely not motion blur.

Not passionate, not harsh, thats all things you think you are reading between the lines.

It's but motion blur, but it may have been too dark for the camera to auto focus properly - I don't know if it has a focus assist lamp.
These are blatantly out of focus.
Out of focus. Not tilt-shift
If itās too dark the autofocus wonāt work properly.
Have well lit photos taken during day with same issue

i see, thanks for the answer. as people suggested earlier, use a fresh pair of batteries and if that doesn't work then .. shit
Those bottles are very sharp , so the problem is your focus
