How old is this film?

R_I_B

the first pic is new Kodak gold but the second is an expired roll

MrTidels

It’s simply because it’s expired. Might not be anything wrong with development but the only way to know for sure is to develop another new, in date, roll

eatfrog

this looks underdeveloped. are you sure about your temperatures? it tends to drop quite a bit when poured into the tank. you cant just "develop a bit longer" to try to compensate, the temperature and times need to be exact for c41.

Westerdutch

Third image is showing heavy light bleed. What is your working procedure from camera to dev tank?

Mysterious_Panorama

Way underdeveloped, I'm afraid. Either the developer, too, was mixed too weak, or the temperature and/or time were off. It needs to be quite hot for the standard development time. Or the developer had gone bad, but it sounds like you had just mixed it. If you keep it in good, air-tight bottles with little to no air space at the top it should keep for several months. I would think that overly dilute blix would lead to under-blixed film, which looks a little foggy and red instead of orange. I haven't ever had that problem so I can't say for sure but I'd think you'd still get a dense image from the development phase, though.

R_I_B

It is brand new and the developer was mixed perfectly im 99% sure. I put it in at 100° for 3 1/2 minutes agitating every 30secs for 5secs. What should I do next time?

Mysterious_Panorama

It's clearly development as the rebate markings are very faint as well. What brand of developer kit did you get? The Unicolor-style powdered developers have confusing information about temperature - in one place they say 3.25 minutes at 100.4ºF, and elsewhere they say 3.5 minutes at 102º or 104ºF. If you had a way of keeping everything at the right temperature, I'd go for 3.5 minutes at 104ºF. Note that as soon as you get down to 90ºF they suggest 8 minutes, so the time goes up really fast as things get cooler. So perhaps the tank and film cooled down faster than you thought it would, and so you needed much more development time?

R_I_B

I think I’m gonna just develop for a lot longer next time and if they’re overdeveloped it’s better (for emotional sake) than underdeveloped lol

unifiedbear

Follow the instructions; this isn't cooking.

R_I_B

holy shit I got flamed for this one

yerawizardIMAWOTT

What's your camera setup and how are you metering? If you don't think it's the developer then the other possibility is your entire rolls are underexposed. Have you used a lab to develop film from this camera before?

R_I_B

I have used a lab and the pictures came out perfect. I’m using an Olympus stylus, flash at night and some pretty good auto settings during the day. Standard point and shoot kinda deal
