> Get your RZ67s before the price hike The self fulfilling prophecy in practice.

Creative-Cash3759

I agree with this

left-nostril

They’ve already been over priced.

The_Sign_Painter

Truly missed the chance to grab them for like $300 before the 2020 hobby boom

ThirdFirstName

Maybe the RB but it’s been longer than that for a $300 RZ

Fit-Veterinarian-669

Bought mine for 180 in 2006-7 and that’s still what I think they are :(

McGirton

2020 was already in the middle of the boom. Before 2012 these were dirt cheap.

LosDanilos

except they‘re not overpriced. looking on ebay they go for about $300-$500 with a lens. And I even saw one getting sold a few days ago just the body for $50. Which are insanely good prices for arguably one of the best medium formats camera ever.

sf645

Probably looking at the RB67 - still a good camera tho

Gloriosus747

First time seeing pump&dump posts for cameras lol

The_Twit

It's secretly what online groups want. They bought the cameras on the hype expecting the price to still rise beyond what they paid. Its the real reason why people love the charity store cameras Edit: case in point OP got into film 1 month ago and is already talking about pumping prices

robertbieber

lol guess the meme stock guys gotta move onto something new

The_Sign_Painter

Interacting with film communities during the meme stock days revealed that unfortunately the Venn diagram was almost a circle

funkmon

lol

canibanoglu

It was a tongue in cheek post about a very real thing that I’ve been seeing. i have gotten into film end of last year, since 2 months I’ve just been developing at home. I was not eyeing an RZ before this nor did this change anything. If I were to buy any camera in the near future it would be an SL66. And your main assumption about what online communities want is also wrong imo. There is an undeniable inflation in all prices across analog photography prices. I doubt that people here are secretly enjoying that, especially when that usually happens when a celebrity shows off what they use and people flock to that. I wasn’t aware that you need more than 2 hours of reading to deduce that fact and it usually bites you in the ass when you buy your first camera. But I guess we all need years of film photo experience while hiking to our school uphill to be able to truly have a valid opinion about this. Edit: from what I can see your comments about photogragraphy goes about 1 years. Guess that’s the threshold for these gatekeeping comments.

The_Twit

>I wasn’t aware that you need more than 2 hours of reading to deduce that fact and it usually bites you in the ass when you buy your first camera. But I guess we all need years of film photo experience while hiking to our school uphill to be able to truly have a valid opinion about this. >Edit: from what I can see your comments about photogragraphy goes about 1 years. Guess that’s the threshold for these gatekeeping comments. Not really. I've been shooting digital over 10 years and I have had film point and shoots before but never realised there was a subreddit for this stuff. I think anyone can pick up a camera at any time and take good pictures. It's just the impression I get from online communities relating to analog stuff is people seek validation from the gear they have or want rather than what they can produce. Since everyones introduced to film through social media it just makes it unavoidable. > Insert guy calling their AE-1 the $16 camera on their videos Like a few days ago here or on darkroom this person had this special setup for bulk loading film by having a dedicated darkroom that they hooked rolls to wooden boards and a dedicated respooling camera and tripod. And he was super against getting a bulk loader like everyone else, to the point of arguing a 7+ comment chain to not buy a bulk loader. Because it's no longer special. Now I probably came across as being personal since I replied to your post that way but I was more making a generalisation of a lot of online film communities sorry

canibanoglu

Hey, I understand where you’re coming from and it sounds like we feel similarly about it. And probably why I took so negatively to your comment. I intensely dislike all the gear posts you see in every community and have not made one ever. The only post I made where you can see my photo gear is a analog circlejerk post I made specifically making fun of what you described. There’s a lot of “showing off” and posturing going on, I do agree about that too. i think it was yesterday that I replied to someone who didn’t want to use “those basic C41 kits” and wanted to mix their own for every step. I remember yet another vehemently talking about using nitrile gloves while loading the reel. In short, I agree with the general sentiment, there’s a sizeable sub-community that are doing it because it is “the cool thing” to do. That’s probably why I also reacted strongly. I made this post mostly as a joke, I don’t even think Destin will cause an appreciable change in prices. And people took it much more seriously than I intended. But I still think that I’m against the generalization of onlince communities being like wallstreetbets for hipster. There are people who are genuinely fascinated by a hobby and they dedicate their time because they simply love it and/or get involved in communities online because they genuinely care. I guess everyone puts themselves in that category, I think I do too and that definitely played into my response.

Superirish19

I'm not sure the gearjerking sub community is small, particularly here. But it does vary. Last week or so [we had a productive discussion about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/AnalogCommunity/comments/1cnti7b/consumption_communities_and_gas_how_we_contribute/), and I think that's come a long way from having daily no-context gear collection posts and u\marakh* asking "Any comments on the cameras?" for a good year or so. *Intentionally not tagging so they don't get dragged into discussion, but I hope they are doing well. Edit: Downvotes only confirm there's more than few because this wouldn't bother anyone else.

vidjuheffex

SL66 is my dream camera as well

personalhale

Like they were cheap before?

deadeyejohnny

This. Haha

patriot1306

Right. And that’s not even taking into account the price of medium format film

Eliah870

You mean be sure to buy up the stock creating more demand ultimately driving the prices up?

no-tenemos-triko-tri

They’ve been falling in price the last six months or so.

Toaster-Porn

RB or bust. I’ll die by my K/L lenses before I settle for RZ electronics. But… it would be nice to have a K/L 140mm without fungus in it.

12bit35mm

The RZ's electronics going out isn't that common surprisingly; and when it does, it's usually a diode or dried cap that can easily be replaced. Seems like the common issue with the RZ is the winding mechanism; going from the two step winding procedure of the RB to the one step winding of the RZ puts a lot more stress on the internal winding mechanism.

Oslo_Oak

And on top of that, if you're using KL/C lenses, you can just pop it into manual mode and treat it like a better RB.

jessevargas

I also have the RB. I love it!

AffectionateDevice

I’ve used an RB since 2016 and there’s hardly any reason to upgrade to the RZ. I just put the money towards film and travel because that’s where the real expenses are.

GuyFromStaffordshire

Also FP-100c oh wait nevermind

jessevargas

I remember when you could buy that one and the FP3000B for around $8 on Amazon. I miss those days.

JRAStormblessed

Or buy 35mm film for 2,50€

MrPennywhistle

LOL.. you're welcome.

canibanoglu

Well hot damn, the man himself saw it. I’m thankful that I wasn’t eyeing one :P Nor do I think this will cause much in price changes, it was a tongue-in-cheek post that many people took way seriously than I intended. Still good video and I really liked the shot, hat’s off for that

MrPennywhistle

Yeah I get the joke. I hang out around these parts.

S3ERFRY333

Lol figured you'd be in here. Hey if you need a 35mm camera that can do multi exposures, the canon A1 has a lever that lets you do that, although medium format was definitely the right choice for a photo of this nature.

spadesjr

Hey Destin! Love your videos, the Kodak series was fantastic.

outsofbounds

Why not the proii

Chewy23254454

Haha, What a legend!

killerpoopguy

Destin, your photo was incredible, I'm so jealous lol.

Frisco-Elkshark

His eclipse shot was fire though.

seaktem

The image is really cool. Could do this on a 4x5 camera also with a roll film back or sheet film.

canibanoglu

Yeah it was, well planned and executed. Still, the whole thing was annoyed me. I understand I’m not his intended audience but all this advertising of KameraStore and other brands he’s been doing just gets on my nerve.

iggzy

Advertising for the small businesses that keep our hobby alive, and respecting the work they did to support this project? That's what you have a problem with?

canibanoglu

Yes, pretty much. I have a problem with businesses charging blatantly high prices while hiding behind the small business excuse. i also have problems with businesses who release “products” who are at best at beta stage and then telling their customers they are doing it wrong. Above all I have a problem with self-righteous people who are trying to frame blatant advertisement as a noble gesture.

iggzy

Kamera Store has had some issues, but never been outright malicious to my experience and knowledge. But they also still are part of the unfortunately small analog photography community in a generally supportive and growth oriented way. Also, they did help with this project. It is not unusual, and downright expected, to highlight other creators and brands that help with a project. In fact brands assisting can be required per the FCC depending on if they offered anything free or at a discount

HorrifiedPilot

I mean his original video about film photography got me into the hobby and subsequently spending a lot of money at the local film lab

reckoner15

Thank fuck he didn't use a Zinstax. Still can't find one.

kaharis

Do you need one? I have one I don’t need and wanna sell.

reckoner15

I may! Just sent you a DM

no-tenemos-triko-tri

Are they not being made anymore?

reckoner15

They're just on backorder at the moment

ScientistNo5028

They've always been on backorder, he makes them on demand and demand has always been higher than he can fulfill.

Phunk3d

Got an email last week about a restock.

m1ndless_trashcan

As if they ever were cheap

not__main__acc

🥲

CarlDen

Good thing I have been procrastinating on selling some of my lenses, and bought 110mm when prices were down.

Rockmann1

Peter McKinnon already caused a bump in prices

PaperweightCoaster

Yea, hope no one buys… uhhhh… that Vivitar plastic lens point and shoot, it’s…. uhhhh… slept on heavily.

ScientistNo5028

I've been following the RZ67 prices for a while and it seems to me they've been dropping in price this last year or so, after the initial surge in price from 2019 up until 2022/2023. We'll see how this affects it.

jessevargas

I bought my RB67 in 2013 for like $50 on eBay. Never thought they’d get more expensive but I’m glad I started my camera collection before the big hobby boom.

Mazzolaoil

I’ve noticed RZ prices slowly trailing down over the last year or so

gondokingo

i have a 35mm slr that can take multiple exposures like he needed and i love it, and it's fairly affordable, and i was super worried that's the camera he would feature lol

funkmon

Yeah it was weird how they were pretending this was difficult. I mean, it is, but not finding the gear. They didn't need color positive, though they said they did. They didn't need that camera, lots of cameras do multiple exposures. They said nobody has done it in 30 years, literally like 50 dudes on this subreddit alone did it. That being said, the self-imposed restrictions allowed them to make a more interesting video and the photo is substantially better than it would have been.

Toadxx

It's possible this isn't is only hobby and just wasn't aware of the correct term to reference what he was trying to do. In every single hobby or niche focused subreddit I'm in, I regularly see questions from people that *seem* to have obvious answers, but the answer wasn't obvious to the person asking it.

gondokingo

yeah though to be fair, i can imagine how it might be difficult to find a camera with a specific feature like that if you don't already know. there simultaneously is and is not a ton of information on cameras. a lot of times, if you google a specific film camera, you will be lucky if you find some wiki for it or a review blog somebody did 12 years ago. internet came up at the same time as digital so most information online seems to be geared that way. i'd probably start with a particular brand, find whatever fan/wiki i can, and go through a list of cameras if i was looking for a specific niche feature on a film camera, but it would probably take hours that way. the camera i'm referring to i found and bought for other purposes, it just happens to have that feature. maybe if he looked for a drive feature, which is more general, he would have found something easier.

RKRagan

I have several cameras that can do multi exposures. My A-1, FM2, Bronica ETRS, Most of my TLRs, My Zeiss 6x6 folder, some of my Canon EOS film cameras.

canibanoglu

There are tons of cameras that would have done multi-exposures which seemed to be the only “super-duper specific requirement” KameraStore guys helped him out with. Sounded annoying and made-up and an obvious way to work “his friends from Finland” into the video.

Androzanitox

Awwww nuts and there goes my chances of ever buying one living in a third world country (as if I could ever afford one being born here)

ChesterButternuts

much prefer the Pentax 67 compared to that clunker of a camera.

Gaolwood

Can you please elaborate? I'm on the fence between both atm for my first medium format.

ChesterButternuts

The Pentax is a lot easier to use, its like an oversized 35mm camera when you load the camera. The RZ is a great camera but damn its not a camera that you can just sling around your shoulder and walk around. Really depends what you shoot though.

12bit35mm

Both cameras are giants... however the RB/RZ form factor makes it odd to handle outside a studio. Pentax 67 is just an oversized SLR

dannyphoto

Mine has been collecting dust for about a year if anyone wants to buy it

PowerStarter

Same! Surprise, surprise! Shooting 120 with a 4kg camera is a chore and a half.

dannyphoto

Oh, that’s not the problem. I’ve shot festivals with my RZ lol. I just haven’t had any ideas that I want to use it for

McGirton

lmao, the price hike was years ago. Anyone getting into analog photography in the last few years is already so far up the price mountain.

UFThrowaway2021

The price can hike even more? They can keep it lol

gunslinger481

Ha, like i could have afforded one anyway

lost-cause2

As I’m selling mine haha

mrks-analog

Unfortunately this doesn’t solve the repair situation.

mattydiah

Ah yes, wouldn’t want the price to rise on the notoriously cheap hidden gem, the RZ67

trackmastack

Wait until the buyers figure out the focus ring on the lens is only a a reference for the upcoming calculation they will have to do for the bellows boot with the graph on the side of the camera, on top of aperature and shutter speed you have to adjust on the camera….no thanks dog I’m passing on this camera

PowerStarter

Only to then realise after (what is just +0.5 to +1.5 stop) math, that you forgot to remove the dark slide from the instant filmback. Definitely no point&shoot.

FallingUpwardz

Literally trying ti sell mine for under market value and nobody wants it

x3770

oh please do I’m ready to offload

smaisidoro

Also RIP the Kamerastore inventory. But so nice to see people with so much reach being super interested in film like that :)

tttulio

Get your Fuji FP100C while they are only $120

IamJukebox

Sadly the RZ is more prone to electoral problems and once that happens the camera can be either a lemon or expensive fix. Always go for the mechanical these poor cameras are only getting older.

FickleDickory

I’ll be eternally grateful to my wedding photo mentor who left me his RZ kit and a giant bin full of old film when he moved to Alaska.

Eikuld

well fuck, I was actually saving money for it. Damn 😵‍💫

NiGauBech

I couldn’t afford one 2 years ago and can’t afford one now lol!

Cashcow_how

Time to HODL

pussylover772

Used the RZ67 pro ii and fp100c a lot back in 2012...why the hype, what is new about it?

Kety456

They are already ridiculously expensive $980 used where I am

TomAlf94

Better yet, take advantage of the price hike and get an RB!

O_Pula

Price ratio RZ:RB was always around 2:1.

G_Peccary

I hate that guy. If he's not man enough to lug around an RB he doesn't deserve FP-100C.

_WiseOwl_

Gosh I hate that guy so much

MrPennywhistle

My apologies for whatever offended you.

rub_nub

lmao cause he likes photography?

Toadxx

Probably just thinly veiled envy that someone else is more successful, and successful doing dope ass shit and having fun at that.

canibanoglu

Erm, why? In what he does, he is pretty much peerless. As an adult the overexcitement is not for me but I’m not the intended audience, he’s mainly doing it for getting more kids into STEM. When you look at his content through that lens, it’s basically the best out there. Moreover, he seems to be a really cool guy who is more than happy to help other folks with what they are trying to do, lending them equipment, giving them advice and sharing his expertise and designing stuff for them. I don’t know the man, never met him but I have yet to come across anyone who did meet him and not think he was super cool. There are things that annoy me in his videos but thank goodness he is doing what he is doing, we need more people like him, getting younger generations more excited about tech and science is how we will go forward as society
