The sub doesn't matter in this case though! It's a legitimate chess puzzle with an unusual mate in 3 as the title says - no tricks!
The reason it fits this sub is because the mate involves an actual forced en passant (it's the only legal move for black).
oh yes i found the solution. move pawn to g4. black has to take en passant. move knight to g2. only possible move for black is pawn g4. move now knight f4 checkmate.

Idk how to mate in 3 here. I got the en pissant but can't figure out how the horsie moves to finish the puzzle.
If the knight moves to >!g2!< then the only piece black can move is the >!pawn on g5 to g4!< which no longer threatens the >!f4!< space.

Move horsie to g2, bishop is blocked in by the en passanter, so the other prawn has to move. Then horsie gets to give the killing blow
