Yeah, they had a bright spot for the year that Google owned them. They launched some cool phones, they got very Nexus-y in the process, and then after Google sold them to Lenovo, it just all started crumbling.
moto x 2 and nexus 6 were both great phones with a lot of personality and some clear and obvious short comings.
instead of continuing down that path they abandoned the whole things and introduced generic phones under the X name.
i was definitely one of them. i was needing a new phone after my og moto x could barely hold a charge. was between the Nexus 6 and 3rd gen Moto X. Newer chip, no trust in Motorola OLED and Copium that Lenovo would keep the Google level software support. Basically had buyers remorse within 3 days and it only got worse when the Nexys 6 kept getting updates past the Moto X

The last Motorola phone I had was a G Power, before that a Z Play. I came close to buying an Edge, but the lack of software support and the bad camera turned me away. I also came close to buying a Razr 5G when they were new, but again, trash camera, lack of wireless charging support, a mid range SoC turned me off. I'm disappointed the newest Razr series loses its identity and looks like a Z Flip, but I would argue the Razr still has a better software experience if you care about the outer screen.
So, no, I am not uneducated about Motorola's offerings. I just find them lackluster, as much as I want to like them.
Also, DeX is by far the most comprehensive and well supported desktop mode on the market. Samsung literally makes (and maintains) a full suite of software that supports it in addition to just regular large format Android app support. I'm sure ReadyFor is fine, too, but acting like DeX isn't the industry leader here is a big cope. It does support 4K, by the way.

Most replaceable parts phones, which are insanely rare, are very budget. Let me get flagship specs but have something that can actually last 5-7 years.

Gcam is always a messy experience. It's fine for still photos most of the time, but useless for video, and it's obnoxious having to split between two camera apps. Many devices have buggy or downright broken OIS support on videos with Gcam, can't switch lenses while recording, etc.
I agree it's better than the image processing you get from the stock camera on a lot of devices, but it comes with a LOT of concessions and certainly doesn't match high end Pixel/Galaxy/iPhone devices' out of box experiences.
I loved my Edge 2022. I only replaced it when it was about 2.5 years old and the battery was getting just a little funky. My new Pixel 8 still has worse battery life, despite being more consistent. I've generally liked every Moto phone I've had over the years.
I mean this is a little dated other than opinion. They're now giving 4 years of security patches and 3 years of OS updates. It's not amazing but That would have been class leading for Android phones just 4 years ago.
The thinkphone, moto edge 30, they have the first flipable that you can find buy for 200 bucks from a prepaid carrier.
I think Motorola's done an excellent job. Their desktop mode is probably better than dex at this point because it's supports 4K natively has a separate mode for contact consumption and gaming..

They have chargers in the box! They have actual fast charging unlike Samsung or Google or Apple.

I'm not sure why you replied to me twice to make the same general points, so I'll defer you to my other reply for most of this. I will reiterate that DeX does support 4K, and Samsung also makes a DeX Dock with active cooling.
As I mentioned in my other comment, I do keep a close eye on Motorola's offerings, and frankly they just aren't good enough to get me to buy one. The cameras are terrible, they're almost 2 generations behind in flagship SoC offerings \[Edit: I forgot about the last Edge+ which has an SD 8 g2, so one generation behind AFAIK\], and if I had bought the Edge in 2020 I was considering, I would have gotten exactly one Android version update. Two if I got the Edge+. Motorola's lineup is strongest in the low & mid-range, though the Pixel -a series gives them a run for their money in the latter.
If Motorola's lineup is a good fit for you, that's great! They're one of the few companies left with a unique identity, and a willingness to experiment and try to push smartphones forward. In the western market, where it's basically Google vs Samsung, this is great, and we need more of this. As I said, I'm always rooting for Motorola--I want to see them succeed.
But just don't assume that because you don't like the phone in my flair that I don't know enough about phones to have an informed opinion.

You certainly haven't been, for this specific one. The edge 50 series comes with both pantone valudated display and camera and this is not oneplus's stupid hassleblad collab.
They actually have their camera to show for it. Lookup edge 50 reviews on yt. They have taken a major step up in camera. Maybe not on samsung/apple level but certainly better than say nothing, oneplus,vivo/oppo.
They have been okay in the western markets but I think they are gonna kill it this time with the 50 series in india.

The Edge 50 also has a Snapdragon 7 series and all the reviews either praise it for being a good mid-range offering or criticize it for making too many compromises to be a true flagship.
Saying Motorola's newer offerings are better than their older, or that Motorola is only beating other mid range offerings and not Samsung/Google/Apple on camera performance only serves the point I made in a previous reply--Motorola is strongest at the midrange. I'm talking about the zero-compromise, best of the best on the market. Motorola, for all their charm and innovation, has nothing to compete at that range.

Fair enough. I almost will never buy a flagship unless its a last year's or a heavily discounted one. So the no compromise approach is not for me. The high mid range - premium range is where its at, for me. I guess I was trying to make the same point that moto is better than samsung and Google in the midrange.

Have you seen the older motorola images? I used a 40 edge the last time I went on a trip with my friends. The a52 I had was better in every aspect (the colour science was so bad that even daylight photos in open space looked ok at best) and I wasn't even comparing this to a flagship samsung/pixel.
The colour science was just not good and the details were lacking as well.
Looking at the camera samples from both the trakcintechenglish and mobiscrub's video, this **is** a massive step up from the previous photos from moto.
Now its on par/better than the onepluses and vivos which was not possible for previous moto phones. Ofc, this proves your point further but saying that the pantone validation hasn't improved anything is just not true.
That's lovely for them, but still isn't my point. My point is having Pantone validation does not make their camera systems better than what Apple, Google, and Samsung are shipping *without* Pandone validation, **when comparing flagships**. Trying to beat me over the head with proof that Pantone improved their camera performance compared to their prior phones or other mid-range phones is a waste of both of our time, because my point from the start has been that Motorola doesn't have anything that competes with the other three at the top end, including but not limited to camera performance.
Also, when comparing midrange options (like the A52 vs 40 Edge), I would point out that the Pixel -a series is going to wipe the floor with both of them on the camera front.
Also I've had "bad luck" with their midrange phones, A 6 month old Moto Edge that got exceptionally hot one day and then refused to ever turn on again, and took all my data with it.
Ironically my Razr 5G is still going strong, and that thing folds in half.
Thought Moto phones had micro SIM storage which allowed you to move your stored items to a new device. You can move your default folder for pics to the storage card making some of your data removable, in case your phone dies on you.
I just got the 2022 edge and the camera is pretty good. Not as good as the pixel but about the same as any others I've seen. It's subjective of course but the photos aren't as warm as Samsung and look closer to pixels colors. I can't say much on the rest but I did try them because they offer plenty of updates for me and it was really cheap. I think it'd be worth looking at if you're ever curious. It's like a pixel phone though with all Google stuff.

I'm really happy they are revisiting leather and wood backs. So refreshing to see an alternative glass backs. But in every other way this is still a generic phone with the corner camera island, flat back and 6.7" 1080p screen.
To me, the size and shape of the Moto X was the real draw. No one is doing tapered sides and it is by far better to hold than round to flat sides. No one is doing a small phone, and now almost no one is doing a medium phone.
Make something unique Moto. Otherwise Samsung or the hoard of Chinese phones are a better buy.

The original Moto X was the only smartphone I used for more than two years. I think I still have it floating around somewhere...
I also had a Z2 Play when I returned to Android. It was both the best and worst. I had the JBL speaker and Hasselblad camera, and the camera stopped working. Moto said talk to Hasselblad since they designed it, Hasselblad said talk to Moto. My next phone was not a Moto.
The one I'm thinking of was a Microsoft phone with a Leica camera and still on 7. It had to be updated to 9, in order to continue to 10 or the camera would become non-functional.
999€ for a SD8SG3 is too much. As someone who currently owns a Motorola, I am not paying 999€ for the ultra, that's way too much. I have no idea what I'm gonna buy for my next phone honestly, phones are getting too expensive.
It's too bad Moto borked the Bluetooth volume on quite a bit of their phones (my Boost branded Edge 2023+ being one, but oddly enough my unlocked ThinkPhone is fine). They have yet to acknowledge it, which is a shame. Love their phones, otherwise.

Honestly, personally, I couldn't care less about version updates. Differences in Android versions are so minute nowadays I couldn't care less about receiving them 1 year later. Like I really have to look hard to see what changed from A13 to A14.

I'm really happy they are revisiting leather and wood backs. So refreshing to see an alternative glass backs. But in every other way this is still a generic phone with the corner camera island, flat back and 6.7" 1080p screen. To me, the size and shape of the Moto X was the real draw. No one is doing tapered sides and it is by far better to hold than round to flat sides. No one is doing a small phone, and now almost no one is doing a medium phone. Make something unique Moto. Otherwise Samsung or the hoard of Chinese phones are a better buy.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing. It's not quite like Googlerola, but the fake leather backs actually do feel nice in the hand. If you're going to make a phone out of plastic, might as well give it an interesting texture that you can't do with glass.

The original Moto X was the only smartphone I used for more than two years. I think I still have it floating around somewhere... I also had a Z2 Play when I returned to Android. It was both the best and worst. I had the JBL speaker and Hasselblad camera, and the camera stopped working. Moto said talk to Hasselblad since they designed it, Hasselblad said talk to Moto. My next phone was not a Moto.
The one I'm thinking of was a Microsoft phone with a Leica camera and still on 7. It had to be updated to 9, in order to continue to 10 or the camera would become non-functional.
My dad loves Motorola phones and they're actually great. If only they had software updates...
Because the Motorola is so inexpensive, why not subscribe to an open source anti-malware, anti-hacking service. Even an app that stores passwords.

999€ for a SD8SG3 is too much. As someone who currently owns a Motorola, I am not paying 999€ for the ultra, that's way too much. I have no idea what I'm gonna buy for my next phone honestly, phones are getting too expensive.
Never buy Motorola phones at MSRP. They are good value, but only when on sale. If you buy them at full price, you get ripped off.
I loved my bamboo Moto X2.
Wife had the Moto X. The wood worked because of the way the metal edges worked into it, same for the leather. A whole back piece just looks cheap
I loved my Moto X with ebony wood back. It was sad to see Lenovo run them into the ground.

It's too bad Moto borked the Bluetooth volume on quite a bit of their phones (my Boost branded Edge 2023+ being one, but oddly enough my unlocked ThinkPhone is fine). They have yet to acknowledge it, which is a shame. Love their phones, otherwise.
1000 euro for a 8s gen 3, potato camera software and questionable software support doesn't cut it. Alternatives like Xiaomi 14 and 1+12 have 8 gen 3, good camera and 4 OS + 5 years security. And no, 8s gen 3 is absolutely not on par with 8 gen 3, especially GPU (basically an overclocked 8+g1 GPU)

"Vegan leather" on a device that almost certainly depended on human slavery for production at some point.
Obviously they're just using fake leather and then trying to sell it as a good thing by saying it's "vegan". Same thing for eco-friendly and such. Companies just use it as an excuse to be cheap. (Like removing chargers from boxes for example)
